Chapter 106

Duncan

"Another dead end," I groaned, kicking an empty bottle against the wall and watching it shatter to pieces.

This was the third warehouse I had traced their scent to and it had turned out to be another dead end.
Anger did not begin to describe how I felt.
These bastards were smart. They knew who I was and they'd properly curated the heist.

"Maybe we should just go home." Lucas said behind me.

"Absolutely not." I snapped, turning to glare at him.
"Anna was kidnapped in a city she knows nobody. Something is wrong and until we find it, we are not leaving,"

"And what if it's only a simple kidnapping?"

"Then, I'll kill them too!" I yelled.

Lucas sighed.

"How about we go back to the hotel? We can talk to Daren,"

Daren was an ex friend of mine that I was trying to avoid. But it seemed I'd have to eventually talk to him.

Lucas and I got to the hotel penthouse an hour later.

Stephanie, Matteo and two other of my men were back from their own scouting.
Stephanie was one of my rose velvet girls, a brown head girl with a pixie cut.
She had been working undercover for me, trying to steal some relevant information from one of my Rivals. When she found out what happened, she came rushing to our hotel room to offer assistance.

"You're back," Stephanie stood up.

"I am,"

"How did it go?" she asked.

"Not good. Another dead end. You?"

"We found something. Another lead. We think it's legit now but we lost him. One of the men is still talling him though,"

"Then what the hell are you still doing here?"
I demanded.

"We were just about to leave," she answered.

"I'm coming with you." I said.

"Me too," Lucas said.
Stephanie nodded and we all made our way out of the hotel room once more and into our car.

My phone rang just as I was about to get in. It was Levi.

"What's up, Levi?" I asked.

There is a problem, Dun."

"What is it? Is Anna okay?"

"Yes, she is and so is Sabrina and the entire mansion if you were wondering,"

"Good to know. What's going on, Levi?"

"Well, there was on Attack last night. A rogue werewolf attacked Sabrina and Anna."

My heart skipped several beats.
"Is Anna okay?"

"Yes, she is but sustained some inquiries but she'll heal soon enough,"

"Heal? Get her medical attention. You realize she is human, don't you?"

"Uh, she has gotten some. Maybe I used the wrong word by saying heal," Levi chuckled.
A sound that I rarely heard these days.

"Alright." I relaxed a little. "How bad are her injuries?" I asked.

"Not bad but she was very upset when we couldn't save the driver."

I frowned. What the hell that did even man?
Without thinking too much, I questioned Levi.

Where is she now?"

"In her room resting,.I presume."

"Presuming is not good enough. Check om her and make sure she's comfortable

"Of course,"

"And triple security. We can't have anymore of this mishaps, am I clear?"

"Yes,. Dun." With that I hung up.

Goodness. I needed to get this over with so I could go back home and protect Anna.

Stephanie was with the tracking device as I entered the car while Lucas was on the phone with David, the man trailing our prey.

Twenty minutes later, we found ourselves in a bar and David sitting in a booth, his eyes trained on a big guy with the tattoo of a bird or Phoenix.

David noticed us first. He was wearing a baseball cap that covered his buzzed blonde hair and simple clothes that made him look more like some random civilian than a powerful beta werewolf. He nodded towards the man.

My eye is flickered to a man who was drinking a bottle at a bar and talking to a blonde woman.
He did smell like the men we were after.

"Sit," I said, mind-linking Stephanie and Lucas.

We found a secluded booth and took our seats. One of my men as waiting in the car in case we needed to go at any moment.

"You okay?" Stephanie asked, grabbing my shoulders gently..

"Yes," I nodded.
"Are you sure?"

I turned to look at her. She looks worried.
I told you I was fine. Do I not look five?" I questioned her.

"You've been tapping your foot." She said quietly.

"I'm just a little impatient. The sooner we get these bastards, the sooner I can go back to Anna,"

Stephanie scoffed. The worried look in her eyes turning into a scowl.

Lucas' phone vibrated just then and he quickly picked up and frowned at whatever he saw.

"One sec, boss," he said and stood, making his way outside the club...

I went back to watching the bulky man we were after.
I was getting impatient with every second that passed. What was he still talking about with that woman?

I tried to listen in on their conversation but the music was too loud

"You really love her, huh?" Stephanie suddenly asked beside me.
I looked over at her quiet for a bit before nodding.
"I do,"

"Why?" She blurted out. As if realizing her mistake she sighed.
"I just don't understand what you see in her. She's human and now that she knows what you are...what we are, she's even more dangerous. She hates as you."

I glanced at her. "Been talking to Sabrina, haven't we?"

"Yes. As a matter of fact, I have. You've changed, Dun, a lot and she's not the only one that thinks so."

"I haven't changed. I just fell in love,"

"That's exactly what I mean. You don't fall in love, Duncan. I would know. I spent years trying to get you to fall in love with me."

"You just weren't the one and I was too angry to love anyone." I said after a long stretch of silence.

"Yes, yes. I remember. But falling for a human is dangerous, Duncan. Too dangerous."

"I don't care. I love her and nothing can change that." I replied calmly.

My mind immediately drifted to Anna.
I wondered what she was thinking right now.
Did she still view me as some kind of monster?
Did she even love me?
Thinking about it made me want to break something. I wanted to believe she would come around but what if she didn't...
No, I'd make sure she did.. I wanted her and I wasn't going to give up on her.

"He's moving," David's voice sounded in my head.

"Alright, Positions,"
I said through the mind-link.

Stephanie stood up and began to walk towards the entrance

"We have a trail on him outside," Lucas voice filtered through the mind-link as I watched the man with Phoenix tattoo start to

"White SUV, there's someone waiting for him inside,"

"Keep an eye on him. He's on his way out,"
I instructed.

"Roger that,"

"Stephanie, flirt with him. Make sure to get into the car with him, he can lead us to the rest of the bastards."

"Sure," Stephanie said with zero enthusiasm.

"Follow them, Lucas. Look out for Sabrina."

"David,"

"Yes, sir,"

"You know what to do,"
With that I made my way out of the bar, following behind the intruder.
I walked towards the car we'd come in with and slipped in, watching the exchange between Stephanie and the man.
He was smiling and looked very interested.
In fact, he was already pulling her by the waist against his growing erection.

I rolled my eyes.
Not a minute later, The man opened his car door and led Stephanie inside.

"I'm in, boss," she answered.

"I see that. Be careful and if you have to kill him, kill him."

"Roger that sir,"
