Chapter 102
Anna
I should be dead.
I opened my eyes to find myself several feet away from the car or what remained of it.
My heart immediately shattered. He was dead. The driver. The poor man.
Tears slipped down my eyes, all I could feel was anger, pain.
I had no idea who he was but I felt the urge to save me.
Seemed I could never save anyone and that notion torw me apart.
"Are you okay?" A familiar voice asked behind me.
It was Levi.
I glanced at him.
"Why didn't you save him too?" I glared at him, my heart hammering.
He blinked at me in confusion.
"The man, the driver. You let him die, didn't you, you monster!"
I seethed, glaring up at him. I hated how calm he looked. He was always calm.
These monsters were all the same. They cared little for human life.
He sighed.
"Come on, I am taking you back to the mansion, we'll get you a doctor to help with your wounds.
I had not noticed any wound or pain in my body until he'd spoken.
Every part of my body felt like it had been hit by a truck. I could feel pain stabbing me from every corner.
"No, don't touch me," I sneered, moving away from him.
"You're wounded," he growled.
"I am fine, thank you." I gritted out it was a huge lie and I could feel myself being pulled into unconsciousness but I didn't care.
I couldn't bring myself to care.
My legs buckled, but I didn't let myself fall. Not in front of him.
Levi reached out again, this time more gently, but I slapped his hand away.
"Don't pretend you care," I whispered, my voice trembling with rage and grief.
"You could have saved him, you didn't."
"You're right, I don't care. He was inconsequential and yes, I could have saved him but then you'll be dead and Duncan would have my head. You are alive because my loyalty lies with him not some entitled human that I know is a pretender,"
My stomach flipped.
That was true. He knew about me or knew something. He'd overheard me speaking through the phone during the auction.
He suspected something or knew something.
The problem was why had he not said something to Levi already?
"Now, take my hands so I can take you back to the mansion,"
"What about Sabrina?"
I asked, looking over at her. She had the grey wolf pinned down now, she and a few other men.
"She'll be fine,"
He said and stretched out his hand for me to take.
I eyed it before finally taking his hands.
I had to find a way to contain him as soon as possible before he exposed me.
He pulled me up and one moment we were standing in the dark street and the next we were inside the mansion with my head spinning.
He placed me on the couch and as if the final straw, I slipped into unconsciousness.
I heard a voice when I finally woke up.
I was in my room and the door was slightly ajar
I had been completely bandaged from head to toe and I was connected to.
something My eyes drifted downward. An IV bag hung beside the bed, the tube shaking down into my arms. Pain throbbed beneath the layers of gauze, a deep ache that reminded me I was still alive. Barely.
I groaned, sitting up.
"You're awake," A familiar voice said.
"Estonia?"
I asked, glancing around, trying to find her.
I'm here," she suddenly appeared out of thin air.
"Ahhhh," I screamed, my eyes wide.
"How did you get here?"
I questioned, panting.
She smiled. She was wearing her usual short skirt and blazer combo.
"Are you feeling better?"
She asked, completely ignoring my question.
"Uh, I think so. What happened?"
I asked.
"You were caught in a crossfire between an opposing pack and our pack."
"Ah, so you really are one of these...creatures,"
Estonia chuckled as she walked into the light, her caramel olive skin glinting in the light.
"Duncan said you would react like that,"
"Like what?" I asked.
"Like you hate us."
"Do I not have a right to?"
"Maybe you do, maybe you don't," she shrugged, lowering herself onto my bed.
"Still feeling pain?" She asked.
"Uh, no" I said, realizing that I was no longer feeling any kind of pain.
"Good, you should rest and no more doing anything stupid like trying to be a hero."
I looked away,my heart still aching for the poor driver. He was human after all and I had not been able to save him.
I was useless.
Completely and utterly useless.
"Don't beat yourself, Anna. You're too pretty for that. Rest up, I'll come change your bandages later,"
"I didn't want to rest but unfortunately when she left and I tried to stand up, I couldn't quite move and before I knew it, I was falling asleep.
"Anna,"
A voice form a distance callled.
My eyes fluttered open and Estonia was back.
"Are you alright?"
"Yes," I downed, wondering why she was staring at me like that.
"You were screaming in your dreams."
"What did I say?"
"Mommy, please wake up. I'm sorry,"
My mouth went dry. I had not had that nightmare in a while.
"Was that all I said?" I asked, panting.
"Yes. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Back up," I groaned as I managed to sit up.
"Breakfast is ready, would you like me to bring it to you?" She asked.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" I asked with a frown.
"I'm sorry, have I ever not been?" she asked, her perfectly carved brows lifted in question.
Now that I thought about it, she was never really mean.
Maybe, I was just being paranoid. Knowing what I knew now it was hard to trust them and it was harder to hide it.
Nevertheless, this was good. My feelings were real but they also helped to fool them enough to think I was innocent.
"No, I mean...it's not that. I just hate.
I trailed off, unsure if how to finish that sentence. Hate what? Them? Myself? This entire twisted reality I'd been dragged into?
Estonia gaze softened for the first time since we met. "You've been through a lot, it's okay to hate, just don't let it consume you,"
I stared at her, surprised that she was being kind.
"I think I'll eat in the dinning room," I said after a long awkward pause. Awkward for me, she didn't seem to notice.
I glanced at my hand and realized the IV was gone. She must have taken it out when I had fallen asleep.
"Are you some kind of a doctor?" I asked, remembering when she said she was going to take off my bandage soon.
"Actually, yes."
"Wait, what?"
It was supposed to be a sarcastic comment.
"Back where I come from, I was a doctor, a good one at that," she shrugged.
"Why did you stop?"
"I never stopped perse. Just branched out,"
She shrugged. "Duncan needed my help,I offered him my help. Besides, he saved me."
"From what?"
"From everything,"
She smiled. "Now, come. Breakfast is ready.
