Chapter 11 Touching Michael's Body?
"I’m just checking if I can help you fix your leg."
Amelia's expression stayed calm as she tilted her head slightly. "I might not be able to do it now, but I definitely will in the future."
"Are you serious?"
Pax, standing behind her, frowned deeply. "The best doctors in the world couldn't fix Mr. Johnson's leg. How can a little girl like you make such a bold claim?"
The other guests at the party were too far away to hear the conversation clearly. They only saw Amelia say something and then Pax scold her.
Pax looked quite disdainful.
Who wouldn’t be? Out of nowhere came this fearless Amelia, daring to approach Michael, and even touch him.
It would be surprising if Michael didn't put her in her place.
People whispered among themselves, expecting a scene. But to their shock, nothing happened to Amelia.
Instead, Michael glanced at Pax, his eyes cold. "Did I ask you to speak?"
Pax was startled, frightened by Michael's icy stare.
Realizing he had overstepped, Pax quickly panicked. "I’m sorry, Mr. Johnson, I—"
"Leave." Michael said expressionlessly.
"Yes, Mr. Johnson!" Pax quickly retreated, standing aside, barely daring to breathe.
"Do you also think I’m boasting?" Amelia bit her lip and looked at Michael, appearing somewhat aggrieved.
Her eyes were misty, looking pitiful.
But Michael somehow knew that Amelia’s pitiful look was an act, as if she wanted him to feel sorry for her.
Michael remained calm. "I’m just curious, what method would you use to fix my leg?"
"Do you really want to know?"
Amelia’s aggrieved expression vanished, replaced by a mischievous smile. She bent down and leaned close to Michael's ear.
"If you want it to be quicker, you’d have to use the method from yesterday. Are you willing?"
The method from yesterday?
He could almost still feel the soft touch on his lips.
Amelia’s warm breath, along with her whispered words, sent a shiver down Michael’s spine.
Michael’s Adam's apple bobbed as he was about to respond, but Amelia was suddenly pulled away.
"Mr. Johnson!"
Kevin, who had just learned of the situation, appeared in front of Michael. He grabbed Amelia’s hand and pulled her to his side.
"Sorry, Mr. Johnson, this is my sister Amelia. She just arrived in River City yesterday and doesn’t know your identity. If she offended you in any way, I apologize on her behalf."
Kevin took a deep breath and bowed slightly, apologizing to Michael with a polite expression.
Michael frowned, his eyes darkening as he saw Kevin holding Amelia’s hand, feeling inexplicably annoyed.
"Kevin."
Amelia called softly, looking obedient and timid, completely different from the bold and teasing manner she had just displayed in front of Michael.
"Hurry up and apologize to Mr. Johnson." Kevin frowned and scolded Amelia in a low voice, fearing that Michael would hold a grudge.
Michael looked up and said, "That’s not necessary. She didn’t offend me."
Hearing Michael say this, Kevin finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Mr. Johnson, I’m glad you’re not upset. I’ll make sure to teach Amelia proper manners from now on."
"Since that's settled, we won’t disturb you any further. Please continue to rest." Kevin said politely, then quickly led Amelia away.
Michael watched Amelia’s back as she disappeared from sight.
What bothered him was that Amelia was indeed pulled away, but she didn’t even look back, not giving him another glance, acting carefree.
He couldn’t help but let out a heavy sigh.
Flirting and then running away?
Kevin dragged Amelia to a secluded spot, releasing her hand and unable to suppress his anger. "Amelia! What’s going on with you?"
"Do you know who that man you approached is? He’s someone who can change the fate of River City with a snap of his fingers. Even I wouldn’t dare to disturb him lightly."
"Do you realize what could’ve happened if you had offended him? The Martinez family’s years of hard work could be ruined, and you could be in serious trouble."
"I’m telling you, you’re in River City now, not the countryside. You’re part of the Martinez family, and everyone’s watching your every move. Do you understand what it means to be cautious? You—"
Kevin ranted on and on.
Someone had told him that Amelia went over to Michael, talked to him, and even touched him, which made his heart race with anxiety.
Why would Amelia, out of nowhere, go and provoke Michael, and even dare to touch him?
Kevin was both anxious and angry, partly because he was worried that offending Michael would impact the Martinez Group, and partly because he feared for Amelia’s safety.
Everyone said that Michael was unpredictable and ruthless, especially towards women, and hated women approaching him.
If Michael got angry, it wouldn’t be surprising if he had Amelia dragged out of the party, and no one would dare to stop him.
He was fuming, but then he saw Amelia’s eyes redden, and his reprimand came to an abrupt halt. He opened his mouth, "You..."
"Kevin, I didn’t just randomly approach him. I saw him yesterday." Amelia sniffled and said softly.
"What?" Kevin was stunned. "How did you meet Michael?"
"Yesterday, after I got off the train, my wallet was stolen. I had no money, and I met him on the street. He lent me some money."
"I didn’t expect to see him at the party today, and I didn’t know his identity. I just wanted to thank him. He didn’t find me annoying."
So that’s what happened.
Kevin was taken aback.
No wonder when he saw Amelia yesterday, she was sitting alone on the roadside, all dirty. She had encountered a thief.
"Why didn’t you tell me about this? Don’t you have my number?" Kevin took a deep breath.
"Kevin, you forgot, I didn’t save your contact," Amelia said, looking down. "Besides, I didn’t want to bother you and make you dislike me even more."
"What are you saying?" Kevin said, stunned.
"I know you dislike me. Not just you, but Dad, Ms. Jenkins, and the other brothers too."
Amelia looked down, her voice choked with emotion, sounding pitiful.
"I may be your sister, but we only share half the bloodline, and I’m the result of Dad’s affair. It’s natural for you to dislike me."
"Being able to come to River City and knowing I have family in this world is enough for me. I don’t ask for more..."
Amelia’s tears fell, leaving dark spots on the ground.
Before she could finish speaking, she was suddenly pulled into Kevin’s broad embrace.
"I’m sorry."
Kevin hugged Amelia, the fierce Kevin from moments ago taking a deep breath. "It’s my fault. I should have picked you up from the station yesterday."
"Kevin?" Amelia looked up in confusion, meeting Kevin’s guilty expression.
"I admit I have a grudge because of what happened between Dad and your mom, but that’s not your fault."
"No matter what, I’m still your family. And I didn’t even know you were robbed yesterday. Are you hurt?"
Kevin quickly looked Amelia over, relieved to find no injuries.
Luckily, the thief only took her money and didn’t harm her.
"Take this card. It doesn’t have a password," Kevin pulled a bank card from his suit pocket. "There’s a million dollars in it. Consider it your pocket money. When it’s gone, ask me for more."
Amelia opened her mouth to refuse, but Kevin cut her off, insisting, "Take it. You didn’t even have clothes when you arrived. Use this to buy clothes and other things."
"But..."
"Just do as I say."
"Thank you, Kevin." Amelia sniffled and accepted the card.
She glanced up, meeting Rachel’s incredulous eyes and her expression of barely contained rage.
