Chapter 61 Embarrass Them, Is Amelia the Great Witch Doctor?
---
Return Elixir?
What the heck is that?
Everyone present was clueless about shamanic medicine and looked confused. But Francis knew exactly what Amelia was talking about and stared at her in shock. "Amelia, you actually know about the Return Elixir?"
Niamh took a deep breath and asked the question on everyone's mind. "Dr. Vasquez, what exactly is the Return Elixir?"
Francis glanced at her and explained, "The Return Elixir is mentioned in the Castillo family medical texts."
"The Castillo family medical texts are ancient books passed down from Mr. Castillo's ancestors. They detail remedies for rare and difficult diseases."
"But many of the medications haven't been widely tested, so there's no guarantee they won't cause harm."
"That's why there's a family rule that the methods for making these medications, and the medications themselves, can't be shared outside the family. They're only for internal research."
"I'm surprised Amelia knows about the Return Elixir," Francis said, looking at Amelia. "But she's right. If we had the Return Elixir, we could save Mr. Williams."
"According to the texts, the Return Elixir is an antidote. It can neutralize and eliminate various toxins, and a person who takes it will wake up soon after."
"Is there really such a medicine in this world?"
Niamh was thrilled and excitedly asked, "How can we get the Return Elixir? No matter the cost, I'll buy it for my father!"
"You can't buy it," Francis's next words crushed the hope that had just been ignited.
"I mentioned earlier that, according to family rules, Mr. Castillo can't share the medications made according to the Castillo family medical texts."
"And even if he could share it, he hasn't made the pill."
Niamh's breath caught. "What did you say?"
"Many of the pills described in the Castillo family medical texts either require herbs and plants that no longer exist, or the materials are extremely hard to find."
Francis continued, "I heard from Mr. Kramer that Mr. Castillo stopped seeing patients after he turned sixty and wanted to make the Return Elixir."
"But the herbs needed for the Return Elixir might require searching the entire world."
"Mr. Castillo no longer has the strength or energy for that, and Mr. Kramer, who has been seeing patients in Border Ridge City for years, doesn't have the time or mindset for it either."
"I heard that Mr. Castillo later passed the task to a student of his whom I've never met, but I don't know if he ever succeeded in making the Return Elixir."
"But based on my guess," Francis shook his head, "that student probably didn't make the pill either."
"I made it," Amelia suddenly spoke up, surprising everyone. "The Return Elixir is with me. I've already sent someone to retrieve it from the Martinez family."
Her words shocked everyone once again.
Niamh, having reached her limit with Amelia, rushed over and raised her hand to slap her. "Shut up!"
"You arrogant fool, what nonsense are you spewing now?"
Before the slap could land, Michael had already turned and pulled Amelia into his arms.
Niamh's slap landed heavily on his broad, strong back instead.
Michael glared at Niamh, and despite her being in her forties and used to being in control, she was startled by the fierce and ruthless look in his eyes.
"Ms. Williams, if you dare touch her, don't blame me for being unkind."
Michael's voice was as cold as ancient ice, his presence sending chills down everyone's spine, exuding the pressure of someone in a position of power.
Seeing Michael angry at Niamh, Anna quickly intervened. "Michael, don't be angry. My mom is just upset."
"Anna, you don't need to defend her!"
Niamh quickly regained her composure, unable to control her anger. "Michael, I don't know what your relationship with this woman is, but you're protecting her in public."
"By age and seniority, you should call me Ms. Williams. By family ties, the Williams family and the Johnson family are related by marriage. And now you're publicly opposing me for the sake of an illegitimate daughter from the Martinez family?"
"I thought my father's condition was minor, but did you hear what Dr. Vasquez just said? He said my father can't be saved!"
Niamh was agitated. "She wrote the wrong prescription and endangered my dad's life! That's called involuntary manslaughter! She has to pay for this!"
Michael clenched his fists and spoke slowly, "Amelia said she didn't write that prescription."
"Of course, she would say that! If she admitted it, would she still be standing here?"
Niamh was furious. "And you believe her just because she says so?"
"I believe her."
Michael didn't hesitate, and Niamh was so angry she nearly fainted.
The atmosphere grew tense once again.
Kevin also took a deep breath.
If Amelia really wrote the wrong prescription, leading to Vaughn's death, whether intentional or not, it was her fault.
Kevin wouldn't be able to defend her, and the Williams family would never let her off.
Even with Michael's support, this matter wouldn't be easily resolved.
At that moment, Chris suddenly looked at Francis and spoke up. "Dr. Vasquez, didn't you say you don't know if that student made the Return Elixir?"
"That means he might not have made it, but he might have."
"In that case, can you contact Mr. Castillo and ask for that student's contact information to find out if he has the medicine?"
Chris looked at Niamh expressionlessly. "Mr. Williams is still alive. Shouldn't we focus on saving him rather than making Amelia pay?"
Everyone was stunned.
If there's a chance, why not ask?
Although it was said that Royce's other student was very low-key and mysterious, with no one knowing their name, gender, age, or whereabouts, Royce would definitely know.
That student was his final and most important disciple, so Royce would have their contact information. In a life-or-death situation, Royce and that student wouldn't ignore it.
"Yes," Francis immediately responded. "I'll send Mr. Castillo a message now."
Everyone watched as Francis typed on his phone for a while, presumably explaining the situation, and then sent the message.
Everyone waited anxiously.
After about two minutes, his phone chimed with a reply.
Francis looked at the message and couldn't help but be overjoyed. "Mr. Castillo replied! He gave me that student's contact information and said the student is currently in River City."
In River City?
Everyone was overjoyed, and Niamh immediately said, "Then call that student and ask if they have the medicine. If they do, I'll send someone to get it right away!"
"Okay." Francis agreed and dialed the number.
Since everyone was waiting for the result, he put the call on speaker so everyone could hear the response.
However, just as his phone rang twice, another phone rang in the room.
Everyone instinctively looked for the source of the sound and saw it was Amelia's phone.
Niamh couldn't help but curse. "You wretched girl, turn off your phone! Can't you see Dr. Vasquez is calling that student?"
"Wait until we get the result, then I'll deal with you!" She turned back, anxiously waiting for Francis's call to connect.
Amelia expressionlessly picked up her phone and pressed a button.
At that moment, the call on Francis's phone connected.
Everyone held their breath.
Francis took a deep breath, clearly nervous about speaking to Royce's other student for the first time.
He respectfully greeted, "Hello, Sir. My name is Francis. I got your contact information from Mr. Castillo."
"I'd like to ask if you've made the Return Elixir. I have a patient here with multiple toxins in their body, and their life is in danger. They might need the Return Elixir to survive."
After Francis finished speaking, there was no response from the other end.
He tried again. "Sir?"
Suddenly, Amelia's cold voice rang out in the room, and at the same time, the voice from Francis's phone was identical.
Everyone turned instinctively and saw Amelia standing there, holding her phone to her ear.
Francis looked up, eyes wide with realization, staring at the young Amelia in disbelief.
Then, the forty-year-old Francis tremulously addressed Amelia. "Sir?"
"Yes, you're asking if I have the Return Elixir."
Amelia stood still, expressionless, speaking into her phone. "I said it in person, but they didn't believe me. So I'll say it over the phone."
Amelia repeated what she had said earlier, which Niamh had dismissed. "I made the Return Elixir. It's with me, and I've already sent someone to retrieve it from the Martinez family."
"Hang up the call. Save the phone bill." With that, Amelia ended the call.
