Chapter 44 Is This Amelia a Genius?
"Are you kidding me? Amelia got into Class A? How's that even possible?"
"She grew up in a small town, never had any private tutors, attended prep classes, or received any elite education."
"Even if you picked someone at random from Class E at Prestige High School, they could easily be the top student at her old run-down high school. And it wouldn't even be close."
"Amelia, who could barely maintain an average grade at that backwater high school, managed to score over 700 on the Prestige High School entrance exam?"
"This has got to be some kind of international joke."
"Not to mention, the practice questions I gave her yesterday—all the multiple-choice answers were wrong."
"If Amelia memorized those answers, she shouldn't have even scored 400."
When they heard that top student Leroy and Amelia, who wasn't even considered a top student, both got into Class A, most of the students in Class A were either in disbelief or curious. Many of them rushed to the hallway to check the announcement.
Rachel couldn't sit still either.
Kelly and Grace had already met Amelia at a party and knew about her status as an illegitimate child. Hearing that she got into Class A, Kelly's eyes widened.
"Seriously, Rachel? Your sister from the sticks got into Class A?" Kelly exclaimed. "How much did Kevin have to pay to get her in? Did he donate a building to Prestige High School or something?"
"Whether she got in by merit or money, we'll find out by looking at the scores," Grace said with a click of her tongue. "If Kevin really pulled strings, he sure is willing to spend a lot on such an unpresentable illegitimate sister."
—Illegitimate child?
Hearing this, Fallon, who usually tagged along behind them, was stunned.
No wonder Amelia called Tobias "brother" when they bumped into each other the other day. Turns out she's the illegitimate daughter of the Martinez family!
Fallon felt like she had uncovered some huge secret and was thrilled.
An illegitimate child?
That means Amelia's mom was either a homewrecker or Robert's mistress, and Amelia was the result of an affair.
The memory of being humiliated at the mall and the look Clea gave her in the phone store still made Fallon grit her teeth in anger.
She had gone there to flaunt her high status and show off her expensive lifestyle to Amelia, even using her old phone case to mock her.
But then Tobias suddenly jumped in to defend Amelia, scolding and threatening her, and even bought out all the ZE phones, leaving her with none.
It was utterly humiliating.
She had thought Amelia had somehow gotten lucky and latched onto the Martinez family, but it turns out Amelia was just a lowly, disgusting illegitimate child.
Amelia, with such a background, not only wasn't ashamed but dared to act high and mighty in front of her?
Fallon despised her deeply.
Seeing Rachel and the others heading outside, she quickly pulled out her phone and logged into the Prestige High School forum, posting anonymously.
"Breaking news! The new student in Class A, Amelia, is the Martinez family's illegitimate daughter from the countryside!"
After posting, Fallon hurried to catch up with Rachel and the others.
A crowd had gathered in front of the bulletin board, where the recent exam scores were posted.
Rachel glanced at the list, sorted by rank. The name at the top was none other than Amelia.
"How is this possible?" she muttered.
"How did she score so high? And isn't she supposed to be a humanities student? How did she ace a science exam?"
Everyone around was equally shocked by the scores.
"No matter how good someone is, how could they get perfect scores in math, English, and science? Besides Zander, they've never seen anyone score that high."
"Who exactly is this new Amelia?"
Suddenly, someone shouted, "Oh my God, someone posted on the forum that Amelia is the Martinez family's illegitimate daughter from the countryside!"
"The Martinez family's illegitimate daughter?" Everyone instinctively looked at Rachel.
Rachel's expression darkened for a moment, and she seemed embarrassed as she explained to the crowd.
"Yes," Rachel bit her lip, looking troubled, "Amelia is indeed my sister. She just arrived in River City a few days ago."
"Since Amelia is now in Class A, I hope you all won't bring up such disgraceful things in front of her. After all, her background isn't her fault; it's all because of her mother..."
This confirmed Amelia's status as an illegitimate child, implying that Rupert shamelessly had an affair with the married Robert, resulting in Amelia.
But exactly how Rupert shamelessly got pregnant, everyone could imagine on their own.
As expected, after Rachel's words, everyone around looked disdainful.
They were all from noble families, and their parents' relationships were often strained, with fathers keeping mistresses or having affairs.
So they all despised mistresses and their children, finding them utterly repulsive.
They believed that a shameless woman like Rupert couldn't possibly raise a decent child.
"But Rachel," someone said, "if Amelia is from the countryside, how did she score so high? Is she a genius or something?"
"I don't know," Rachel seemed puzzled too. "Kevin told me that Amelia's grades at her previous school were barely average."
"Even though I tutored her and gave her the exam scope and key points, she shouldn't have scored this high."
"What genius? Amelia must have cheated!" Quentin pointed at the score sheet. "Look, Leroy, the top student, also scored 700."
"Their scores are identical! Amelia must have copied his answers!"
Everyone looked and saw it was true.
Not only was Amelia's background disgraceful, but her character was also despicable. She cheated by copying Leroy's answers to get into Class A?
They all thought Quentin's reasoning made sense, believing it was the only explanation.
They never considered that neither Amelia nor Leroy had written the essay.
