Chapter 114 VICTIMS FOR THIS WEEK.
Chapter 114 VICTIMS FOR THIS WEEK.
Asher
Nathaniel caught my gaze and he nodded, before turning back.
"The second item."
This time, it was a jade piece, a smile rose on my face. It didn't look fake. I turned towards Nathaniel and he nodded.
"The starting price is 30,000…" The lady announced.
The bid started from below and when the bid was about to be closed, I raised my paddle.
"A special guest from the higher floor bids 60,000." Murmurs started among the crowd and my smile grew even larger and just when the bid was about to be closed, someone else raised his paddle.
Through the thin lace, I could see the silhouette of the person on the other end. I raised a brow, he looked oddly familiar.
I scratched my head, trying to remember where I had seen him from but the loud applause of the crowd soon snapped me out of my thoughts, he had gotten the item. My brows furrowed. Who was this person? I bid for the next time but yet again I lost. The person from the other side had taken it.
I shook my head, thinking it was a pure coincidence but the next item I bid for, he also did.
I turned towards Nathaniel. "Did you not say this item is an obvious fake?"
He shook his head, leaning in with his eyes focused on the guest at the other end. "I'm afraid he doesn't want the item."
I nodded, understanding his words immediately. Could he have been the person that they had sent to monitor us? Impossible. No one would ever waste money like this.
I continued bidding, no matter the price he called, I called at a higher price and soon, the room fell silent.
Over a hundred grand for an obvious fake. Murmurs started to rise.
"Could this be a conspiracy?"
The crowd was already starting to find it strange and the man at the other end finally dropped his paddle.
I scoffed, as applause rang out in the room. I turned towards Nathaniel. "I might end up drying your pockets." He scoffed at my words.
In the end, we were able to get enough items but he didn't let it go to us easily.
"Try to find that man and find out what the problem is." I said to Nathaniel and he nodded, rushing out but an attendant came in just at that moment.
"This is the invitation for the bidding tomorrow. We'll be waiting to see you." She offered.
I grabbed the invitation away from her hands and hurried after Nathaniel.
The man was already out of the building and it was difficult to find him in the surroundings. Nathaniel stumped his feet hard on the floor as my eyes drifted around the place and soon enough I sighted him. He hid quickly, and I tapped onto Nathaniel's shoulder.
"I just saw him." I said, and hurried quickly after that shadow.
He was fast, and with the dark attire he wore, he almost faded into the crowd but he kept running towards desolate areas. Was he planning to launch an attack? Still, I followed along closely behind him, hoping to catch him and find out the reason he was actually trying to make things hard for us.
I paused, figuring out that he was already out of sight. Nathaniel caught up to me, and scanned the place.
"Where is he?" He asked and I shook my head negatively.
"I can't find him anymore." I confessed, standing up straight to search the surroundings but soon enough, people emerged from the shadows.
I sneered. "He really wanted to make an attack."
Nathaniel's brows furrowed but he didn't get the chance to say a word.
The people launched forward with knives and daggers in their hands but not guns. I grabbed the knife from one of them but then I remembered the set of rules I had seen before I came in here.
No fighting allowed.
I cursed beneath my breath, he didn't want to attack us, he wanted us unable to bid.
"Try not to hurt them, fights aren't allowed here." He warned me.
I threw the knife onto the floor and he paused. He grabbed the knife from the floor again and attacked me.
I rushed towards Nathaniel... "We have to find a way out. We can't keep fighting."
I readied myself for defense as the men moved forward but when they were a few feet away from us, they dropped to their knees. I looked towards Nathaniel in shock and he had the same expression on his face.
"What are you guys doing?" I asked but they didn't answer, instead, they dropped their head to the ground.
"Please spare us." They said, their voices echoing in the entire alley.
I felt a chill run down my spine but before I could do anything, someone came into the place.
"So you are the ones causing a fight?" The person said and I couldn't help but scoff. So much for this act of theirs.
I parted my lips to speak but he didn't let me, he signalled to the guards behind him and they came closer, holding us down. Nathaniel wanted to protest but I shot him a glare. “Don't forget their rules."
I let them grab me and lead me out of the valley, I turned back defiantly and I could see a smirk rising onto the face on one of the men's faces.
I lowered my gaze but when I looked back up, I saw that man's silhouette once again. I wanted to run after him but I didn't have that opportunity anymore.
The guards brought us before a man clothed in a different attire from the rest, an expensive smell of perfume clinged around him.
The only person who would wear such expensive material was probably their leader.
"There really is someone every week. Are you the victims for this week?" He asked, a smile on his face.
