Chapter 50
With two quick strides Blaze was at her side. He stood at the edge of the bed, he bent over slightly. He caught her hands with his, hindering her movements. He attempted to catch her eyes, when he succeed he said, "I will help you. Just breathe." He encouraged and she obeyed.
"Good girl." He praised.
Blaze unbuttoned her shirt and helped her out of her jeans. He discarded the clothing and gifted her one of his shirts. It would be less constricting for her. He looked on as she lay down onto the bed, she stared up at him.
"Do you want me to stay?" his voice soft. He hadn't meant to ask her, hell he was expecting an outraged NO. But Juliette nodded.
Removing his clothes, all but his boxers Blaze slid into bed with her. Her body already over ridden with exhaustion she gravitated towards his body heat. She curled up against his chest and Blaze embraced her, pulling her closer to him.
He closed his eyes in reminiscence at the feel and smell of her. It felt so natural. "Our baby would have been so beautiful." Juliette's voice a muffled wisher in the silence.
Blaze tightened his hold. "The most beautiful." As the word escaped he felt the emptiness and the loss, the imagines that plagued his mind with Juliette and a younger copy started to blur until it was an empty picture. He didn't quite know when it happened but he'd fallen asleep. The only night since she'd left he slept comfortably.
Blaze's eyes yanked open, he made certain that Juliette hadn't stirred and quietly walked out of the room, his hands closing over his cell to muffle the sound.
"Yes." He answered roughly. Why would anyone call him this late?
"It's just me Blaze, you have to use that tone." An amused voice echoed.
"Emma?" He rubbed his face tirelessly. "Is everything alright?"
"Every things alright as well as everyone. It's just..." Her voice trailed off.
Blaze shot to attention. "It's just what Emma?"
"We just found out that...um." she sighed, "Diane is pregnant." She finished, she silenced waiting for his reply.
Blaze inhaled. So they finally knew! "How is that our problem?"
"Well Blaze, it's for...Luke." She whispered.
"Again Emma that is not our problem. Luke is no longer a part of our lives." Blaze's voice was uncommonly calm.
Silence surrounded them and finally, "You knew about this didn't you Blaze?" Emma accused.
"I never said I didn't. But it still stands; he is nothing to our family. Have you told Mary?" He questioned, hoping his younger sister was able to enjoy her honeymoon in peace.
"No, we haven't told her." Emma responded.
"And I hope you continue to keep it to yourselves, at least until after she returns home." Although his words were phrased as if a choice was given, Emma knew it was a command.
"I won't tell her until she comes home. Anyhow how's Juliette?" She pried, her voice taking on a happier note that wasn't there before.
Blaze stiffened. "She's....we are in a bit of a rough patch right now." He allowed.
"Rough patch? Blaze you better had not screwed this up! Don't throw away the only person who was able to bring you immense joy!" She was worked up.
"Emma I really didn't ask for your advice on my personal life." He retorted.
"Well then, it's my advice you didn't ask for, but I don't revoke it. Use you intelligence here Blaze, pride is not always a good thing. It can be our enemy also. Any way I got to go. Bye, love you."
"Take care Em." He responded before the phone call ended.
Blaze checked the time, it was five, a little later than he usually awoke but he decided to catch up on some work. He went into his study opened his laptop and his head hurt. Closing it back down he stared off into the distance. What was he going to do? His sister's words rang in his head. Use you intelligence here Blaze, pride is not always a good thing. It can be our enemy also.
He buried his face in his hands, what on earth was he doing all this time? Who was he trying to fool? Himself? Juliette? He lied to her. He made her think that he was seeing Diane behind her back. Made her believe that she meant as little as the garbage lying at the side of the road!
How could be have been so insensitive? Why did he let his pride keep him from someone he loved? He needed to fix it! Needed to let her understand the reasons behind his actions.
Blaze instantly rose from his introspection, the sun peeking out from the horizon, he couldn't see it but he felt the warmth seeping into the house. He entered his room and found the bed empty. His shirt lying on the made bed. His mind sent into overdrive. His heart pounding against his chest.
"I am really sorry for the inconvenience I caused you." He spun around to see her standing at his balcony. Only then did he realise the golden rays illuminating the room. He walked towards her and swore she took a few steps back.
"Thank you for all your...assistance. I won't bother you anymore." Her voice sharp and direct. She started to leave.
"I don't want you to leave." Blaze declared and she stilled in front of him.
