Chapter 34

Both Juliette and Blaze grew silent at the doctor's blunder, he thought they were married? Juliette calmed her nerves before answering; apparently Blaze was leaving this all up to her! "I believe you are mistaken, he is not my husband. I feel better now actually." Juliette answered, glad to correct the mistake, the last thing she needed was her having hopes of marrying Blaze!

"Forgive me!" The middle aged doctor begged his voice thick with an accent Juliette couldn't quite make out. "I see, well I will have to conduct some tests and hopefully we figure out what's happened." He smiled and asked Blaze to step outside. After a few protests he agreed.

Juliette exited the doctor's office and made her way to Blaze who instantly shot up from his seat when he saw her. "Well?" his voice was anxious and Juliette wished it would be because he loved her, but it might just be a courtesy. She had no doubt that Blaze was a master of facades.

"I don't know yet. The doctor told me that once the results are back he'll give me a call." She confided and Blaze nodded his mind far away.

"You need to take the week off and I am not taking no for an answer." He commanded once again but this time Juliette didn't feel angry more confused.

"The week?" she echoed.

"I believe that is what I said." He countered.

"Blaze, I can't take the week off." She insisted, her eyes willing him to react.

Blaze's eyes were reduced to slits as he studied her. "Why not?"

"I won't be working for you anymore. This is my last week." She announced.

"What?" Blaze's response was unfiltered. This couldn't be true.

"My letter of resignation is on your desk. I gave my one week notice."

Blaze hadn't looked through all of the files on his desk and he obviously hadn't seen that letter. Why the hell did she want to leave the company....leave him?

"Why?" this was all he could muster, his eyes chilling her.

"It's all in the letter."

"Damn that blasted letter!" His voice rose, it was a blessing that no one else was there. "I am asking you, Juliette."

"I need a change." She answered, her heart pounding. She knew one day she would realise that this was the best decision.

"A change?" his voice cold and full of contempt. This was the Blaze she grew accustomed to; working Blaze. So different from the Blaze she fell in love with. "Was that your plan all along? Sleep with me and when you're bored just change?"

Angry flared up, how dare he blame this on her? Wasn't this what he wanted? His freedom?

"We are not in a relationship Blaze!"

"By whose account?" his voice was acid.

"Yours! You're the one who told me that whatever we did was just..." Her voice trailed off and Blaze grew silent.

"I am leaving Blaze. It's either you allow me my last week or you fire me, in no other circumstance am I to stay home for a week."

Blaze contemplated, "Then you're fired. I won't risk your safety on an ultimatum. I will send your cheque into your account."

"Fine." Juliette began to walk off when he grabbed her hand. She spun around, pulling her hand out of his. "Is this how it all ends?" he inquired.

"Yes." Juliette answered and all the while her heart flaked of bit by bit.

Blaze nodded, he regained his composure. "Come let me drive you home." He offered.

"No." Juliette shouted to quickly and he appeared-hurt? More like wounded but she was sure ut was just his pride. "I called my best friend and insisted that she'd pick me up so you needed waste your time."

"Then I shouldn't. Call me when you arrive home." Blaze ordered and he stalked of.

Juliette watched as his figure disappeared, she sank into a seat and allowed the tears passage. She wasn't able to hold them in anymore. She buried her face in her palms and tried to cease crying.

"Oh darling!" she instantly looked up into the eyes of her best friend who took the seat beside her. She wrapped her arms around Juliette in genuine comfort. Juliette felt the tears heavier and poured the sadness of her soul onto her best friend.

Blaze got into his car and slammed the door. His fists balled and in a fit of anger he crashed his hands on the steering wheel. How did he allow this to happen? Did she really tire of him? These emotions confused him. Isn't this what he wanted? Didn't he make it clear that he didn't love? So why was he feeling as if his world shattered? Why was everything meaningless without the prospect of Juliette in his future?

These questions he couldn't answer but one thing was for sure; if she didn't want him then he would learn not to want her.
