You win. Go and get her

"How did you find us?" My mother's voice came out like a hiss the moment she saw Carlos standing there.

"Please leave," she added, not giving him a chance to respond.

"I'm here to see Daisy." Carlos didn't move an inch. His face was set, almost hard. He was determined to see me. That much was obvious.

"Mum, please let him in," I said quickly, rushing toward the door.

"I'm here to see Daisy and I won't be leaving until you let me speak to her," Carlos stated.

"I'm going to call the police on you," my mother threatened.

"Alright." Carlos didn't react at all. "But once they see who's standing at this door, you can be sure they'll turn right around and leave."

The hard look on his face disappeared the second his eyes found me.

"Daisy."

"Daisy, get back to your room," my mother said in that tone she used when she expected absolute obedience. But I stayed right where I was, not moving from the door.

"Gold, come here." Carlos stepped into the house, ignoring my mother who was practically shaking with anger.

"Daisy, you heard me," my mother seethed. But instead of doing what she asked, I hurried past her and threw myself into Carlos's arms. His arms wrapped around me instantly, and I felt so relieved. So much better.

"I missed you." I pressed my face against his chest. But within seconds, I felt my mother grab my arm.

"Daisy! Are you out of your..." Before she could finish, Carlos had pulled back from our embrace and moved me to stand beside him.

"Diane, don't raise your voice at her."

"You don't tell me what to do with my own daughter!" my mother shot back.

"She's an adult now. She can make her own decisions. She's not just your daughter anymore. She's her own person."

"Listen, I don't care what you have to say. Just leave my daughter alone. I won't let you have her. I'm going to keep her safe myself."

"Mum, I want to be..."

"Not another word from you, Daisy," my mother cut me off.

"You don't care about what your daughter wants?"

"I care about what my daughter wants. But I care more about keeping her safe!"

"Mum!" I screamed, stepping away from Carlos.

Silence filled the room. Both of their eyes turned to me fully.

"I'm tired of being cut off! This discussion is about me, isn't it?" I asked, my voice still raised.

"I want to be with Carlos! I know he's not a saint! But I'm not a saint either! So if you can't accept Carlos, then you shouldn't accept me too! And Carlos didn't just kill Dad. He killed Dad because he was misinformed! And he regrets it! He regrets it and for the past seventeen years, he's been trying to get rid of that guilt! So can we just... Can we just move on? I know you loved Dad and you still do. But Dad wasn't a saint either! He also put an end to other people's lives! I'm not a saint and I'm not looking for one. I just want to be with... Be with him." My voice cracked at the end as the emotions overwhelmed me.

My mother stared at me, her lips slightly parted in disbelief.

Carlos took two steps toward me and held my shoulders.

"Gold, look at me," he said, and I raised my head to meet his eyes. His thumb brushed my cheek, wiping away the tears that had rolled down.

"It's okay. Why don't you go into your room and let me talk to your mother?"

"But..."

"I love you." He pulled me close, kissed my forehead, and let me go.

I walked toward my room slowly, turning back several times to look at them. Neither of them moved until I was inside my room.

"Oh god," I sighed, closing the door.

Carlos Blaze

Diane was furious as she sat on the sofa across from me. Furious, but at least she was sitting and willing to listen. The moment Daisy had that outburst, I could have picked her up, carried her to my car, and left with her. But that would ruin her relationship with her mother. I didn't want that. Not if I could have Daisy without destroying her family.

"We both want the same thing, Diane."

"Oh please, we definitely aren't after the same thing. I regret entrusting Daisy to you. I thought you would just..." She threw her head back in frustration.

"I couldn't control my feelings for her. That's already happened. I'm in love with her and I can't stop it. I'll continue loving her even after I'm dead. The point is that Daisy is going to be happy and safe if she's with me."

"Safe? I can keep my family safe," Diane scoffed.

"Not from Sandro. You can't handle the bastard who's after Daisy. I can keep her safe and you know that."

Diane stared at me for several seconds without speaking.

"This is all your fault! No one would be after my daughter if it weren't for you!"

"I know you hate me right now. But keeping Daisy safe is the priority. And while I'm keeping her safe, I'll try to make her the happiest woman."

"Oh my." She pressed her fingers to her forehead for a moment. My gaze remained fixed on her, waiting.

"If anything happens to my daughter even once while she's with you. If she gets kidnapped or gets shot in the head or worse..."

"None of that will ever happen." I said it like a fact. I was going to keep Daisy safe with my very life.

"If any of that happens to her, I will take her away and I will hide her from you until the end of the world. No. If she calls me one day and tells me you made her sad or made her shed a single tear, I swear on my life, I will tear you apart." She made that vow and got to her feet.

Hurting Daisy? Making her sad? That would never happen. Not in this life and not in the next.

"You win. Go and get her."
