"How did this happen?" I hold my aching head and stare at Hunter in confusion. My mind is blurry. I don't remember most of the things and I hate it.

I hate to be in this vulnerable position.

I can't feel my wolf either. Fuck.

"Six alphas teamed up to take you out. It's a miracle you are alive" 

"I hope you got them," I whisper, clenching my fists. Why am I even here? I fucking don't need a position to be relevant. I am already at the top and I don't want a position that will tie me in a fucking same place. What the fuck was I thinking to vie for a stupid council's position?

I can barely handle a pack. My business takes most of my time. I don't need to be on the council at all.

"We got them together with their mates" 

"Is He behind this?" I grit my teeth at the thought of that forbidden name.

"Yes, his men were seen around your territory two days ago."

"Good" I smirk when I realize I have a good reason to be eliminated from this shit show. "They are about to get the experience of their lifetime" I mutter and sit up on the stupid hospital bed.

"Should we take her home first? It's going to get bloody and I know you wouldn't want her to see that"

"Who are you talking about?" I look at the man in confusion. 

"Your wife, boss. She is the one who reached out to me. These guys had targeted to take her out so you wouldn't proceed with the competition"

"Sorry, what?" Since when did I get myself a woman? Goddess! Why isn't my mind showing me anything? It's forgy but the one thing I know, is that I don't keep women. If I found one for this exercise then it's nothing serious.

"You don't remember, Bella?" Hunter whispers as he stares at me in confusion. Bella? I rake my brain for that name but it doesn't sound familiar at all.

Furthermore, I only fuck them and walk away. I don't need to remember their names. That is another mistake I might have made.

"You know I don't do that stupid shit." I shake my head, refusing to believe I got close to a woman and she already got me in this dumb position.

"But she's the person you love the most. You already claimed her"

Love? Claimed?

Fuck no.

"How the hell did that happen? Why didn't any of you talk sense into me?" I groan, trying to get out of bed, but I slump back down. This headache will kill me and I feel sore everywhere. Why haven't I healed already?

Fuck, I can't feel my wolf.

"Who is taking care of business if you are here?" I specifically assigned him to handle my underground business. Hunter is professionally trained and unlike the regular guards, I trust him with my life.

Why in my right senses did I assign him to guard a mere girl? I was not supposed to keep a woman in the first place. That's why I didn't bother chasing after a mate.

"Emilio is in charge, boss"

"I fucking have no idea what is happening. Business should be your only priority..."

"Oh! Goddess," A soft voice interrupts me, and I look up just when a girl jumps into my arms. Fuck, doesn't she see I am injured? I am about to push her away when she snuggles her face in my fucking neck and sniffles. 

"You scared the shit out of me. It's been two days, and you weren't responding." The girl moves back to look at me, and I don't know how she does it, but my heart instantly calms down when I look into those green, soft eyes.

This must be her. The reason I had to re-assign my most trusted man to her. Goddess! What the fuck did I do?

"Are you okay?" She cups my cheeks and I can't help but stare into her eyes. There is just something in them. Fuck, she is beautiful. 

The girl leans forward and gently presses her lips on mine and I almost groan. Why is she so comfortable around me? No one behaves this way with me. I never allow a woman in my fucking arms. Have I fucked her already?

Fuck, of course I have. Hunter just mentioned I claimed her? She must have bewitched me with those eyes. There is no way I will let a woman near me.

"I missed you so much. Next time don't scare me like that, okay?" She softly whispers and and I stare at Hunter as if he can save me from this predicament. 

"He doesn't remember anything, Bella," the guy says, and I groan in frustration.

"Wait outside" I glare at my beta and wonder why he is still in the room.

"You don't remember anything?" The girl buries her fingers in my hair, and I hate what they make me feel. How could I have just given in so easily? This is the weakness I can't afford. It's already happening.

"No," I grumble and lean back on the headrest. The girl straddling me bites her lip and she suddenly appears nervous.

"Okay..." She slowly pulls away and begins to get up when the door opens and two more women enter the room.

"Oh! Enzo, the blonde, rushes to me, but I hold my hand forward to stop her. I don't want women jumping on me as they feel like. When did I become this entertaining?

"Who the hell are you?" I ask and the blonde brightly smiles.

"I am Lucinda your mate, don't you remember me?" She carefully approaches the bed, and I wonder how the goddess could choose someone this ugly as my mate. Her ring finger has a huge diamond on it and I am sure as hell that isn't my taste.

Also, the woman's eyes bear no ounce of remorse or care. They are rather thirsty.

"And you?" I gesture at the brunette, and she smiles, but her smile doesn't reach her eyes. "I am her friend. " she hesitantly points at the blonde as if she isn't sure about her words. "Lucinda was so worried about you and has been crying non stop"

There is no concern on her face either, just a weird smile that makes her think she looks convincing. Out of the three girls, only one of them shows real emotions and deep worry.

The girl in my arms slowly slides away and silently walks to the door. I don't miss the sadness and the wetness pooling in her eyes. I don't know why but it makes me feel uncomfortable.

So I have a wife, and a fucking mate? Why do people find it fit to take advantage of someone's weakness? I don't take deceit so lightly.

"Don't you not have emphaty the two of you? Perhaps you think he won't recover. Get the fuck out," Hunter snaps, startling the two desperate bitches. I don't need my memories to tell when something is fake.

"Teach them a lesson, and bring her back here" I groan and lie on the stupid hospital bed. I need to get out of here soon.

Minutes later, the girl hesitantly walks into the room and visibly sighs in relief when she finds out it's just me.

"Where did you go?" She has her eyes trained on the floor, and I pull her back on my lap without hesitation.

"The restroom," she whispers, avoiding my eyes. Unlike earlier, she looks sad. I grab her chin and it's clear from her eyes that she has been crying. 

"Are you upset because of those two women?"

"No"

"Then why did you cry?"

"Something got into my eyes"

''Losing memory doesn't mean I am stupid, Bella. You knew they were lying yet you left me alone with them. Can't you protect me when I can't do it myself?" The girl's eyes widen and suddenly become remorseful.

"I didn't think about it that way. I let jealousy control me. I am sorry, okay?" She turns to me, and her hands once again cup my face.

So this is the girl who made me change everything I believed in. I can't believe I settled for one woman. It's something I never dreamed of doing.

I want to know what happened that got me here.

"Bring them here, " I nod at Hunter, and he excuses himself.

Six men and women are brought into the room, and my blood boils when I look at them.

"You are not winning those elections..." one man bitterly starts but a bullet in his skull silences him for good. One of the women shrieks and quickly crawls to the dead body and I signal for the guard to end her misery.

He must be her mate.

"Who gave you the order to kill me?" I calmly ask as I stare at their faces. My mind can't make up who they are just yet. Whatever they did messed up my head.

'What did they do?' I mind link Hunter.

'They overdosed you with wolfsbane and silver. If she hadn't found help soon, it would have been a different case. I stare at the miserable people, and I want them to confess who gave them the order.

I know who it is, but it won't hurt to confirm.

"Just kill me, Lorenzo, I am not snitching," one man says, and I nod. He has his arm wrapped. Probably got injured during the fight.

"Grant him his wish, Hunter, but first, let him watch as his mate dies first," I say, and the girl in my arms instantly looks away.

"Don't look away, little wife. I want you to watch" I turn her to the traitors and her breathing hitch." Behead them all, and find out who ordered them to kill me." My men instantly get into action, and I calmly watch as blood splatters around the room mercilessly.

When the groans and screams, die down, I look at the girl in my arms and smirk. She is shaking, and her face is as pale as paper. 

Bella places her hand on her mouth and rushes out, definitely to puke.
