Chapter 57 Not Alone Anymore
Aiyana's P.O.V

It could be paranoia, but as soon as my brain registered that I was actually alone in the room with him, I instinctively clutched my knives just to be extra sure that they were in the right places.

As I watched in silence, I thought of just how much fear and responsibility he had to live with to be like this. It was even robbing off on me as I knew that he didn't say those words just to discourage me from staying back.

He was everything wrong and dangerous but I learned quickly that he was not a liar.

‘Everyone is out to get me as whoever defeats me becomes the most feared mafia in the country and anyone would kill for that position’ The words played in my head like a broken record as my mind conjured all the possible harm that could come to him right now.

“Miss, you need to leave now!” Biggie barged into the room, breathing heavily, looking around the room and attempting to move Jerome but I immediately stood in front of him, disagreeing. The doctor had ordered that he had to be well rested and watched until the drip was done. It was not just tiredness but acute fatigue, there was no way in hell I was letting them move him in such a state.

“Do what you need to do, I'll protect him here.” I responded with my arms crossed over my chest with my knives already tightly grasped in them.

“Miss please. Boss has ordered that in any situation, whether dire or not, we must keep you safe.” Biggie insisted again but I was not going to budge, not after knowing that moving him could put him in danger.

“No.” I said and turned back to sit where I was before he bathed in.
I could tell that it took everything in him. Probably the fear of Jerome to not grab me and hide me from whatever emergency situation this was but he heaved a sigh instead and walked out.

He didn't leave though, I could see his huge shoes through the lower door gap.

Before I could make an inside joke about the humongous size of his shoes, the alarm started to ring. More like a roar actually.
I've never heard an alarm have such a thunderous sound.

Looking back at Jerome, he was still not awake.

‘Yeah, he's definitely unconscious.’ There was no other way to explain him not joining awake by such a loud sound.

Yells rang through the halls like chants, as the boots of men echoed around the house.
It was so much that I highly doubted that just about a hundred men were in this house. It was scary and at the same time boosted my adrenaline.

Their chants and the uniform sound their feets carried did something to my heart. It boosted my morale but at the same time, I was shocked at their level of preparation.
It was like they were just waiting for it to happen.

“What's happening outside?” I ask loudly, knowing that Biggie was there and could hear me clearly.
For a few seconds, I was met with nothing but silence but I waited. I knew very well how tight lipped these men were, especially when it came to information that was given to them by their boss. However, I also knew that Jerome had let them know to an extent that I was to not be treated poorly. I could see it in how they cleared out of my path when I walked, how they bowed slightly when I walked past, how they secretly protected me and now, how I could stop Biggie who could easily lift me up with one hand.

“Boss had already planned for this attack almost a month ago. We are always prepared for a fight but with this one, he was sure they would come.” Biggie said with a sigh that came out as almost a whisper.

Turning to Jerome, tears filled my eyes as I wiped the sweat that had glued his hair to his head gently. I knew he was trying to protect I and Noah, but now I knew that he was actually waiting for a war and tried to send us away and fight alone, be sick alone, suffer alone.

“You're not alone anymore.” I whispered and immediately, his finger twitched.
