At Sky Care, the doctors swiftly sprang into action. They rushed the girl to the emergency room and began a flurry of medical procedures to stabilize her condition. Nurses prepared an IV line, and the beeping sounds of machines filled the air as monitors tracked her vital signs.
Eric and his wife stood at the threshold of the emergency room, tears in their eyes, clinging to hope that their daughter would make it through.
James and Gregor stood beside them and whispered words of encouragement, "She's in good hands now. The doctors at Sky Care are some of the best in the region. She's got a fighting chance." James said.
Eric nodded. He has been here once to see James when he was admitted after the series of beating he got from Jaxon and Henry.
He was surprised to see James fully recovered in a space of two days.
Nobody believed he would recover so soon but the doctors at Sky Care made it possible.
And so he has put all his hope in Sky Care medical doctors and believed that his daughter will be alright.
As Eric stood there, his mind couldn't help but wander back to his family and the relentless struggle they had endured. They were once an ordinary family living in the heart of Emerald Falls, enjoying a life of moderate comfort.
But then, everything took a nosedive when their beloved daughter, Claire, was struck by cancer. Their lives were turned upside down, and they found themselves in a never-ending battle.
To ensure Claire received the necessary medical treatment, Eric toiled day and night in his role as an officer. The hospital bills, medicines, and therapies piled up, each one draining their savings.
Mary, his wife, had to take up additional work, doing any manual job she could find to help make ends meet because his salary alone was no longer sufficient, and they needed every penny they could get.
With every passing day, their financial situation grew more dire. They found themselves slipping deeper into poverty. Loans became a common resort, taken from anyone who would lend them a helping hand.
Their friends and acquaintances gradually distanced themselves from the family, either due to a lack of understanding or their own discomfort. Life became a series of uphill struggles, each more arduous than the last.
The golden opportunity that James had presented, offering him the role of CEO at Multisource Corporation, was like a lifeline thrown to Eric. He seized it with gratitude and excitement, believing it was the answer to their prayers.
With the prospect of a steady income on the horizon, Eric dared to hope that their financial struggles would finally come to an end.
He decided not to burden James with the details of his family's ordeal, preferring to face the challenges on his own.
However, life had its own cruel plans, and now, as he stood in the hospital room with his daughter's fragile existence hanging in the balance, he couldn't help but reflect on the unexpected turns of fate.
It seemed that destiny was determined to make their life as difficult as possible, especially for Claire, who deserved a life filled with the joys she had been denied for far too long.
The silent sobs of prayer by his wife brought him back to consciousness.
He took a deep breath, sighed and then comforted her.
"Hey, everything will be fine again, our daughter will be alright." He said.
"I just hope so… Oh! God please…" Mary sobbed.
He wiped the tears from her eyes and held her close to himself.
Anxious hours passed, each moment feeling like an eternity for the worried parents. They remained on edge as the medical team worked tirelessly to revive their daughter, whose life had teetered on the edge.
After long hours of anxious waiting, a doctor finally emerged from the emergency room, his expression a mix of fatigue and cautious optimism. He approached Eric and Mary, and with a calm voice, he said, "Your daughter is stable now. It was a close call, but we managed to bring her back. She's in recovery. We will continue to monitor her, but she's a strong girl."
Tears of relief welled up in Eric and Mary's eyes as they hugged each other, and then proceeded to hug both the doctor, James and Gregor.
"Thank you, doctor," Mary said, crying tears of joy. She could no longer hold herself together and so she cried out tears of joy.
"Doctor, Can we come and see her?" Eric asked.
"Yes. She's probably asleep, right now." He said with a smile, "You can come in and see her."
After the doctor said Claire was fine and they could see her now, they hurried into the emergency room and found her asleep, breathing normally. She looked peaceful, like she was in a different world, far from the hospital. Her face showed no signs of pain, giving them hope for a better future.
Seeing their daughter, peacefully sleeping after her ordeal, made them extremely happy.
James and Gregor hung around the corner watching as the couple sat happily beside
their daughter.
It wasn't until an hour later that Claire opened her eyes.
"Oh my God she's awake!" Claire said, hugging her daughter tightly.
"Get the doctor," James told Gregor.
"Mom? What's wrong… What happened to me? Where am I?" Claire said with a sleepy voice while looking around.
"You're alright, sweetie." Eric said, also closing the gap between them. He hugged them both together. "Everything is fine, now." A tear dropped from his left eye.
"I was in a dream and I saw you and dad crying. I tried to console you guys but you never paid any attention to me. It was as if I wasn't there with you guys."
"Oh really?" Eric said. "We'll always pay attention to you. Okay?"
"Okay…" She looked around the room and saw James standing at the corner. When Claire saw James, she asked her dad, "Dad who is this?"
"He's your Uncle, sweetie." Her father said to her.
"He's a very good man, too." Her mom added.
James walked up close and held her in her hands. "Hey, Claire. How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine, uncle." She said and kept looking at James with a confused look because she hadn't seen him before.
Just then, Gregor, the doctor, and a nurse entered the room. The medical team began their examination of Claire, checking her vitals and ensuring she was recovering well. They meticulously assessed her condition to confirm the exact illness and treatment.
After the examination, The doctor spoke gently, "I'm sorry to tell you, but Claire has leukemia, a type of blood cancer."
Eric and Mary looked at each other. The other doctors they met also told them she has cancer.
"Doctor, can it be cured?" Eric asked.
"The chances of a cure for leukemia depend on several factors, including the type of leukemia, the person's age, overall health, and the stage at which it is diagnosed. Some people with leukemia can achieve long-term remission or even be considered cured, especially if it's detected early and responds well to treatment. However, in some cases, leukemia may be more challenging to treat, and the goal may be to manage the disease and improve the person's quality of life." The doctor replied.
"She's got a fighting spirit, she will get cured." Gregor added.
The doctor continued, "The treatment she needs includes chemotherapy to fight the leukemia cells in her blood. After that, she'll require a bone marrow transplant to fully recover."
Mary asked, her voice trembling, "What's the next step, Doctor? What do we need to do now?"
The doctor explained, "First, Claire will need to stay here in the hospital for a few days so we can begin her treatment and monitor her progress closely."
