Omniscient Narrative
\[days later\]
One evening, Chris mentioned casually, "I'm going out for a bit"
Demi looked up. "Going where?"
"Kyle just called me that he needed me" Chris said looking a bit panicked.
Alex, sitting nearby, glanced between them at alert, at first he tried to act like he wasn't paying attention to their conversation but when he heart Kyle needed Chris he couldn't help it.
"What did he say, what does he need. Should we all go with you?" Were the question Alex asked.
"Woah, calm down" Demi said before he turned back to Chris.
"When you get there call us to let us know how things are over there" he gave Chris a smile.
He knew Chris wanted to be alone with Kyle.
"Are you sure you don't want us to go with you" Alex asked looking worried and Demi's heart melted at the sight.
"He'll do fine without us" Demi replied.
Chris smiled at that, he thanked Demi and bid them bye and left.
"I promise you, it will be fine, im sure he's sad about his grandma's death and just needs someone to be there for him" Demi gave him a reassuring smile.
"Okay" Alex said quietly. He took out his phone and sent Kyle a quick message.
.
"Want to watch something?" Alex asked after a while of silence.
Demi hesitated at first, he could feel his body grow hot at the sound of Alex’s voice.
He nodded.
"Sure, I don’t mind."
“Cool” Alex said as he went to take the remote in his hand.
“What do you what to watch?” He asked Demi. Demi stared at the screen as Alex scrolled through the channels.
“I heard euphoria is out, want to watch that?” Demi asked. Alex nodded and switched to HBO before putting the show on.
“I’ll grab us some snacks” Demi said as he got up and went into the kitchen.
He took some chips, popcorn, he brought out left over pizza and warmed it. He took them to the living room and went back to the kitchen to grab the drinks.
“Thanks” Alex said
They ended up sitting on opposite ends of the couch at first.
But as the show played, the distance between them subtly reduced.
It wasn’t intentional, some could say it was subconsciously.
“Why did she even attend the wedding. I’m telling you, the second Cassie and Nate got together I would have announced them dead in my head” Demi said as he threw popcorn to the screen.
“I get what you’re saying, but Cassie is still someone she loves” Alex said watching as his friend(?) mean mug cassie and Nate through the screen.
At some point, Demi shifted slightly and Alex had noticed, but he didn't comment.
“Ughh, let’s watch a movie instead, I swear I’m just getting more and more annoyed watching this show” Demi pouted.
Alex smiled as he looked at Demi. It’s been so long since Demi has acted this comfortable around him and that made him feel warmth all over his body.
He took the remote and changed it to a movie. One that they could be enjoy.
Time went on and they were minutes into the movie but for some reason, Demi couldn't focus on the movie, not fully of course.
His mind kept drifting to Alex sitting nearby, they were closer now than they were when the movie started.
He could hear the sound of Alex’s breathing, he could feel the warmth from the other boy’s body.
Demi clenched his jaw slightly.
‘Don't do this, he told himself’
But his thoughts didn't listen, because part of him, the part he had been suppressing, was waking up again.
He’s losing the battle of his mind to his body.
.
Alex wasn't fully focused either, but for a different reason.
He kept looking over at Demi, the way he would react to the small things.
The way his posture changed slightly when he relaxed.
The way Demi sometimes glanced over at him without realizing it, he noticed it.
Alex felt something building again, his subconscious mind was telling him try again. To try and reconcile with Demi again.
At one point, their eyes even met, it was just briefly, but it was enough for Alex to decide that he wants to have what he had with Alex again.
Neither of them looked away immediately.
The moment stretched and it wasn’t an uncomfortable moment
Demi looked away first, but not quickly.
Alex followed shortly after, he had to force himself to.
A few minutes later and his mind was still on Demi.
‘Oh fuck it’ he turned to Demi. He took the remote and turned it off.
“Hey, what was that for?” Demi immediately began to protest.
"I've been thinking” Alex said suddenly.
Demi raised an eyebrow slightly. "And?”
Alex hesitated, then said it.
‘Here goes nothing’
"About us."
Demi's entire posture shifted.
"What about us?" Demi asked carefully.
Alex took a breath.
"I want us to go back to how we were, I miss us and I know, I know you miss us too”
The words landed softly.
Demi looked down briefly.
Because Alex was right.
He did miss them, there were times he would lay awake on his bed thinking about Alex. He missed his best friend and he couldn’t deny it.
"Why are you doing this Alex, I thought you already moved on?” Demi said quietly, almost as a defense.
Alex shook his head slightly. "No. I never did”
Demi looked back up.
"Then what about what’s her name?" he asked.
Alex didn't hesitate.
"I admit that was a mistake on my part but I promise you, I never got with her to move on from what we had” he admitted.
Demi's chest tightened at the honesty.
“I’m so sorry for what I did and what I said, I’m sorry for how I handled things”
Demi looked away, he could feel himself on the verge of tears.
Because hearing that made everything more complicated.
Demi swallowed.
"Why are you telling me this now?" he asked.
Alex didn't answer immediately.
"Because I stopped lying to myself a long time ago” Alex said finally.
Demi's breath hitched slightly.
Alex moved closer, just enough to close some of the distance between them.
"And I think you should too” Alex added.
Demi's heart started beating faster.
"I don't know if we can go back to how we were" he admitted.
Alex nodded slightly. "I don't either."
Then Alex added quietly
"But I know I don't want to lose you again and I’m willing to start over Demi”
That line hit differently.
Because it wasn't demanding anything.
It was pure honesty from the other boy’s side.
"This is going to be hard" Demi admitted.
Alex nodded. "Yes, but if you give me the chance I promise I’ll try to make things better between us”
Demi looked at him, like looked at him.
And for the first time in a long time he didn't try to fight it.
“So what do we do now” Demi asked as he crossed his arms on his chest.
“We talk it out, let out our feelings and try to resolve it” Alex said.
It took Demi a few minutes to think it through, he got up and rubbed his head.
Alex followed suit and stood up, he watched as the boy paced around the room a few times.
“You hurt me Alex” Demi finally said, he brought his hands down and he had tears in his eyes now.
“You hurt me so bad” he added.
Alex’s chest dropped a little as he stared at the teary eyed boy.
He couldn’t say anything because he was the one who brought this up. He had said they should talk about their feelings and that’s what they’re going to do.
