Chapter 38 Chapter Thirty-Five

Chapter 38 Chapter Thirty-Five

Omniscient Narrative

Demi had always been perceptive when it came to his friends' feelings, but yesterday, something was different.

During their friend outing yesterday, he had noticed the subtle slump of Chris's shoulders, the way his smile faltered when he thought no one was looking and the glare he kept giving him.

It was a small thing, yet it gnawed at him, he knew something was bothering Chris and that didn’t seat well with him, especially with he and Chris getting closer these past few weeks.

As they parted ways that evening, Demi made a silent promise to himself, that he would find out what was wrong and be there for him, no matter what.

The next morning, Demi woke up with a sense of determination.

He decided to visit Chris, to check on him and see if he needed someone to talk to.

He grabbed his phone and texted him, hoping for an answer.

Demi:

Hey, I was thinking about you yesterday. Want to hang out today? Maybe talk?.

To his relief, Chris replied almost immediately, a simple

Chris:

Yeah, I'd like that. I don’t mind.

Demi felt a warm wave of reassurance. He knew that sometimes, just being there was enough for someone.

He got dressed and made his way downstairs.

“Mom?” He called out for his mother. She was the only one at home, his father had gone out with his friends and won’t be back till evening.

“Yes my love” his mother said from the couch

Demi made his way to her and sat beside her, taking a handful of popcorn.

She was watching a romantic movie.

“Can I go over to Chris’s house?” He asked her, she turned to look over at her son.

“Sure” she said “who is Chris again?” She asked him furrowing her brows trying to remember who the friend is.

“Black hair, same height as Alex, muscular build” he listed, his mother stared at him still confused “gay dads” he finished making her snap her fingers.

“Oh oh” she said “I remember him, I like him and one of his dads, I don’t know which one, taught me how to make that key lime pie that you love so much, they’re such nice people” she smiled at Demi before taking a handful of popcorn and munching on it.

“Yeah, they are nice people, I’ve met them a few times and they’re cool people” Demi spoke, his heart elevated as he said those words.

Hearing his mother speak so well about Chris’s gay parents made his heart swell a bit.

It was nice hearing her say good things about them, especially since he was hiding the biggest part of himself from she and his father.

He was scared about what her reaction will be if she finds out he’s gay.

“They’re such good people, I don’t know why people hate them for loving” she shrugged, if she didn’t have her attention on the movie she wouldn’t have missed the look on Demi’s face.

The brownskin boy looked like he was about to cry.

Subconsciously, Demi leaped forward and hugged his mom.

He tried his hardest to hold back his sob, because he didn’t want to answer his mother’s many questions.

“What’s this for” she asked him hugging him back, she didn’t care why Demi was hugging her all she knew was that her baby was hugging her and a part of her knew she needed him.

“It’s nothing” he choked out “I just love you” he whispered hugging her tight.

“Well this is random” she chuckled giving her son a kiss on the head.

“I love you too”

After a few minutes of just hugging in silence, they pulled apart.

“I’ll be leaving now” Demi said, getting up and straightening his shirt.

“Okay, dinner will be ready when you get back” she told him as he walked away.

Demi couldn’t be more happy about what had just happened a few minutes ago.

He knew his parents weren’t homophobic, but it was still nice to hear it from their mouths how much they didn’t hate his people.

His mind then shifted to Chris, and what he had witnessed yesterday.
