Chapter 53 The Power Of Inheritance
"Levi?" Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Levi walking in front of her with Jean and three other Yeager Academy officials.
Nami thought she had seen him, but after a closer look, she was certain that the tall, black-haired, blue-eyed young man wearing a brown coat was Levi.
She was overjoyed, as she had been feeling restless for days, constantly missing Levi. She considered approaching him, but seeing that Levi was with Commander Zarius, whom she had had a problem with on enrollment day, Major Edward Sullivan, a staunch supporter of Prince Jacob, and Captain Pieter Houve, the new cadets' primary instructor, she was forced to restrain herself from approaching Levi.
"Professor Levi?" Lea muttered, standing right beside her. Nami turned to Lea, who was staring at Levi with barely blinking eyes. Nami hadn't expected Lea to truly idolize Levi.
"Lea?"
"Nami, that's Professor Levi Sanders, isn't it?"
"Y-yes, that's Levi. Are you okay, Lea?"
"H-how am I doing? I'm so nervous!" Lea's firm and indifferent demeanor suddenly changed when she saw the figure she idolized standing just a few steps in front of her.
"Lea, calm down!" Sydney said, trying to urge Lea, who was becoming flustered, to remain calm.
"How can I be calm? Professor Levi is here!" She said, immediately crouching down and covering her reddened face with her hands.
The three young women were caught off guard and didn't realize Levi was almost upon them.
"Nami!" Levi called Nami, spontaneously everyone in the hall immediately stopped what they were doing and focused their attention on the most influential young professor in the world.
"L-Levi?" Nami replied nervously. She felt a little uneasy as people started looking at her again.
Levi walked over to her and stopped right in front of her. He stared at her with his usual cold eyes and a blank expression, his expression completely devoid of the longing Nami had expected.
"Come with me!" Levi said curtly as he walked away and motioned for Nami to follow him. Without resistance, Nami walked right behind him to the backyard of the academy building.
"Where are we going?" Nami asked once they were in a much quieter area.
"How are you doing here? Are you starting to settle in yet?"
"Yes, as you said, this place seems perfect for me. But why did you come here?"
"To personally inspect the damage you caused!"
"Th-that, I-" She couldn't finish her sentence. From the start, she had suspected that sooner or later Levi would hear about the trouble she had caused.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine," she said. She felt like crying because Levi was still asking about her, compared to the magnitude of the problem she had caused.
"Thank goodness, then there's nothing to worry about. I can go home now!"
"Wait, Levi!"
"What?"
"What are you doing here?"
"I came because Commander Zarius contacted me and told me that you fought Prince Jacob Konstantinides a few days ago in the dormitory hall. It seems he's really pissed you off, huh?"
"I'm not upset, he's the one who's really annoyed with me. I never bothered him, but he suddenly attacked me like crazy. He has terrifying telekinetic abilities."
"He's an esper who's been a major concern worldwide for years. It's said he inherited godly powers from his ancestors."
"He inherited godly powers?"
"Hades, the ancestor of the House of Constantine that currently rules Evangelia, was a demigod, whose ancestors were closely related to the Lord of the Underworld, Hades, one of the most powerful gods in legend, alongside Zeus and Poseidon. According to legend, after King Leonidas' death on the battlefield, the king had a son with his wife, and that son became the ancestor of the House of Constantine that now rules Evangelia."
"If Prince Jacob is a demi-god, does that mean all members of the royal family are as powerful as he is?"
"Unfortunately not. After King Leonidas' death, his powers ceased to be his, and none of his descendants regained them. However, after the eclipse 28 years ago, five percent of the children born after the eclipse suffered severe genetic mutations. Three percent had genetic abnormalities and disabilities, while two percent possessed supernatural powers, now known as espers."
"Is that so? No wonder he's so strong."
"I spoke to him earlier!"
"With Prince Jaciob?"
"Yes."
"W-what did you say to him?"
"I just asked about his condition and he asked me to keep an eye on you before ERI takes over your supervision."
"He said that?"
"Yes, he already knows that your name isn't on the list of espers under ERI's supervision."
"Is that dangerous?" Nami asked. She was starting to worry that one day she might actually meet ERI and they'd force her to become part of their research.
"I'm your official guardian."
"Guardian?"
"You don't need to worry, all your data and identity data already have my name listed as your guardian, or rather, your foster parent. They won't force you to follow them without my consent."
"B-but since when?"
"When I turned 18, I was permitted to become a legal guardian for a child on the condition that I earn no less than five million per year. At that time, I decided to become your adoptive parent. Therefore, legally, you are my daughter."
