Chapter 23 The Crazy Women
"Why are you using that as an excuse to blame me? You're completely insane!"
"You think I don't know what's going on in that damned mind of yours?"
"Hey, are you a psychic who can read other people's minds?"
"I can't read your mind, but your actions are enough to show what kind of bastard you are?"
Jean was silent for a moment. He really didn't expect Violet to be this angry, even though she was so close to getting what she wanted: being the closest woman to Levi after Nami became a Yeager cadet and living in the dormitory.
"I don't understand your way of thinking. Is it because you're so intelligent that you become so stupid when you fall in love?"
"You always accuse me like that, Jean! What else are you good at besides meddling in other people's personal affairs?"
"I'm not interfering in your personal affairs at all, and I don't care about it. However, this behavior of yours is seriously disrupting our work. You're acting like a teenager in love and won't let anyone talk to the man you love. We have a lot of work to do, so stop being so childish and do your job properly!"
Plaaakkk...
A slap landed squarely on Jean's cheek, and the loud sound was enough to attract the attention of Levi and several others still in the room where they were working.
"Why did you slap—" Jean stopped immediately when he saw Violet's eyes were already wet, as if they were about to burst.
Violet didn't say anything; she simply left before Levi and the others could see her cry. Jean, the victim of this unexplained tantrum, seemed more like the perpetrator than the victim.
"Jean, what's wrong?" Levi was the first to ask what had happened between the two of them.
"N-nothing, Professor! I teased her a little earlier, so she got angry and slapped me!" He said, starting to play the role of the perpetrator. He had no choice, considering he was a man, and men are always the ones to blame.
"Why did you upset her like that?"
"I'm sorry, Professor! It seems my joke went too far this time and offended her!"
"Hey Jean, what did you do to Violet? Why did she run away crying like that?" asked Brieta, a middle-aged woman who was Jean and Violet's senior and had worked in the laboratory long before Levi became a renowned scientist.
"Oh my, I'm going to have to deal with Brieta too. I'm going to be humiliated," he thought to himself.
Brieta walked with her hands on her hips toward him, who was standing there silently like the most idiotic person. Upon arriving in front of him, Brieta looked at him as if this was her last day seeing the world.
"I-I didn't do anything to her, really!" Jean said pitifully. He truly feared Brieta more than anything.
"You bastard! How dare you make a woman cry? You need to be taught a lesson!" he said as he grabbed Jean and dragged him to the execution ground.
"W-wait a minute! Why is it my fault? Damn Violet, she slapped me for no reason? Why am I the one getting hit?"
"Shut your mouth, you bastard! You still won't admit your mistake, huh? Professor Levi, please forgive me. Allow me to teach this young man a lesson on how to deal with women! Men these days rarely have manners." She said as she forcibly pulled Jean out of Levi's office.
"Please...! Let me go! Professor Levi, please help me!" Jean screamed hysterically, as if his life were about to end at Brieta's hands.
Levi, witnessing the scene, remained silent, unsure of how to react. He knew a strong woman like Brieta would be very difficult to stop when she was angry. It reminded him of Nami, who wouldn't let anyone who upset her go.
Remembering Nami made him miss her. He rarely missed anyone, almost never. He was born and raised as the only child in a very wealthy family. He had everything other children might not have, but as a price, he rarely saw his parents. Only three times a year; since childhood, he had only seen them three times a year. Having become accustomed to living without his parents, he no longer missed them.
That's why he felt a little strange when Nami left him, because Nami usually never went far from Helenes City and he was someone who usually traveled out of town or abroad. That's why this was the first time Nami had left him.
Levi picked up his phone, which he'd barely touched during his busy schedule. He considered calling Nami, as it seemed she was already there, around the time his cadet duties should have ended for the day, considering it was already six in the evening.
But before he could contact her, Nami contacted him first. This happened often, which made it seem like he'd never contacted her first.
"Hello, Levi?" Just as Levi answered, Nami's cheerful voice rang out.
"I was just about to call you!"
"Really? What's wrong? How rare is it for you to call me? You usually never do that!" Nami was a little surprised. It was a rare occurrence for Levi to call her. Usually, he'd show up to disturb her or if he was in trouble, but Levi would go looking for her on the hill under the olive tree when she hadn't appeared for more than three days.
"It's okay, you usually come here. So, how was your first day as a cadet? Did it go well?"
"There's no physical training today, we've just been listening to instructions and theory. It'll probably be really busy starting tomorrow."
"Is that so? Thank goodness."
"Levi, let's have a video call? I miss you so much!"
"That's not necessary!"
"Hey, come on! I want to talk and see your face, Levi! I'll make a video call, you accept, okay?" She asked Levi for something impossible. Levi immediately ended the call and put his phone back on the table.
He took a deep breath and exhaled, wondering why Nami's excitement hadn't subsided even though she was in a place that should have drained her energy.
"She's really crazy."
