Chapter 21 The Strongest Soldier
Lea felt guilty after hearing Nami's answer, thinking she shouldn't have underestimated others. Realizing that Lea regretted her words, Sydney patted both of them on the shoulders.
"Well, I don't think we need to know everything. What we feel is important to us is enough!"
"You're right, Syd! Nami, I'm sorry. I seem to have offended you."
"No! You didn't offend me at all. I haven't really paid much attention to anyone other than Levi and the children I consider like little brothers at the orphanage. But I'm confused, if he's a prince, why does he want to become a Yeager?" Nami immediately thought about the most important point of this conversation: why a king's son would decide to take the extreme path of becoming a Yeager.
"You're right, why does Prince Jacob want to become a Yeager?" asked Sydney, also confused by the same thing.
"It's because Prince Jacob is an esper," said Jensen, who quickly joined in the conversation.
Nami, Lea, and Sydney immediately turned to Jensen, who was approaching them with Robin. The two young men smiled cheerfully, as if deliberately trying to charm the three girls.
"Prince Jacob is an esper?"
"Yes, but it's best not to talk about it here. I don't think he'd like it if he knew we were talking about him," Robin said. Without realizing it, their eyes were simultaneously fixed on the person they were discussing.
"Let's go to our table!" Jensen motioned for them to go to their area. However, Nami, still curious about the figure, kept her eyes on him.
"Nami, don't keep staring! What if Prince Jacob finds out you're watching him?" Lea was beginning to become overly worried about being attacked again. After the incident last night that shook her, Sydney was tripped and Nami was strangled by Mariah, the elastic woman. Although she was just a normal human with no special powers, Lea had never been bullied by popular students or students who belonged to the esper group. She lived a safe and peaceful life as a bright student, the daughter of a rector at a prestigious university.
"I'm just curious, what kind of power he has," Nami said casually, as if it were a common topic of conversation at the dinner table.
"As far as I know, he is very strong. It can be said that in the future, he will be the strongest Yeager soldier ever."
"The strongest soldier ever?"
"My father served in the palace as one of the king's advisors, so as a child, I often went in and out of the main palace in the capital of Hellenes. Prince Jacob has an older brother, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Lucas Konstantinides, who is three years older than him. Because he is not the main heir to the throne, Prince Jacob often suffered unfair treatment, especially when important figures in the palace learned that he was an esper. He demonstrated his abilities from a young age, making people fear him. He is very intelligent and talented, and at such a young age, he can control his immense power so well. He will be a protector of humanity in the future," Jensen said. He explained with the enthusiasm of a true fan.
"So, what kind of powers does Prince Jacob have?"
"He has several special powers, but the most prominent is his telekinesis."
"Telekinesis?"
"Yes, he can control objects with his mind."
Hearing Jensen's explanation, Nami, Lea, and Sydney were stunned. Only Robin appeared calm, as she had known from the beginning. Robin's father was the personal assistant to the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Evangelia, so information about the royal family wasn't difficult for her to learn, just as it was for Jensen. Although Prince Jacob's abilities and the fact that he was an esper were a palace secret, in recent years, the secret had begun to reach people outside the palace and become a topic of conversation.
"Is being an esper such a disgrace that it must be hidden?" Nami asked a slightly disturbing question: why people born with rare genetic mutations that give their bodies special powers not possessed by normal humans must conceal their abilities and even hide themselves, even though their abilities would be very useful in facing large and powerful monsters.
They fell silent as if wondering the same thing: why the identities of espers have always been so secret, and it's rare for espers to show their abilities in public. While they were all thinking, Ethan was already near them, enjoying his lunch.
"Ethan, when did you get here?" Robin asked, completely oblivious to Ethan's arrival.
"While you were busy talking about things that had nothing to do with you," she said coldly. Ethan's cold demeanor reminded Nami of Levi. Levi was also cold and difficult to approach. Even though she had known him for nine years, she still couldn't fully understand him, and now she had to meet and deal with someone with a similar personality.
"But I think this conversation also has something to do with us, considering we are Yeager recruits and we are the ones who most need the great powers that can save humanity."
