Chapter 87

Chapter 87
Giovanni POV:

We were headed to one of the endless locations that Domenico could be hiding at. I was desperate to find him, if he had enough time, he’d kill us all. Luca was by my side this time. I wasn’t sure if I had made a mistake, but I was hoping sending Marco with her would throw him off the scent.

She’d be furious with me for sure, sending her back to Italy all on her own. Truth be told, I’d had this planned for weeks. I’d made my father promise that should anything happen to me, he’d defend her to the death.

It was a slim chance that we’d get out of this alive, but I’d rather face her fury than her corpse. She could be angry with me all she wanted, so long as she was safe.

Luca picked up his phone beside me. Marco would be sure to keep her safe. All I needed was confirmation she was on the plane, and then I could get this job done.

Instead of the solemn nod I expected, I took small glances over toward my cousin as I drove. The blood had gone from his face, and he couldn’t form the sentence to talk to me.

I didn’t need to hear it. I turned the car without thought on the small country road we had been driving down, turning back towards the city.

“Does he know where she is?” I growled.

Luca nodded, placing the dropped pin Marco had sent us and connecting the phone call while looking away from me.

He’d never admit it, but he cared for Arianna deeply. I know he took her security as his job, and he’d fought me on giving it up. I thought I was being clever in sending her with Marco, but clearly I was wrong.

“They thought I had drove off, so I was able to follow them…” Marco’s hushed whisper crackled over my car’s speakers. “Guilia took her, she hit her with the car, and then tased her.”

“How many men?”

“Fifteen at least, he’s here on some old farm. I think the owners are dead. I don’t see anyone else, but their truck is here. So is Caputo,” Marco informed me my blood boiled.

I stepped down on the gas, hammering my way forward. “Can you see her?” I shouted, trying not to imagine the worst.

“No, but it doesn’t look good,” Marco told me the truth. My false cousin had undying loyalty to me after I helped his family. He believed part of that loyalty was honesty.

“I’ll be there in thirty minutes,” I told him, hanging up. I didn’t need a play-by-play of what he saw, I'd only imagine the worst. I just had to get there in time.

I grabbed my phone and dialed the detective. I didn’t wanna admit it, but it has helped the scenario might give us the upper hand.

“I’m sending you his location. You need to meet us there. He’s got her,” I told him.

Thankfully, for once in our relationship, the detective didn’t come back with some witty response or fight me on anything all he said was okay and hung up. I could only hope that he’d bring the cavalry with him.

I wouldn’t be able to do this. I wouldn’t be able to breathe without her. I had to get there in time, Lord knows what she was enduring right now. She was strong enough to survive it that much, I knew, but I don’t know if I could face her after this.

I had failed her in the most abysmal way, so all I could do right now was put my foot even further down on the gas, trying to jam it through the floor of my car. Barrelling down the road at breakneck speeds.

I parked half a mile away and opened the trunk, grabbing whatever guns I had on us and handing some over to Luca. If anybody got in my way, I wasn’t bargaining today if they didn’t drop their gun, they got dropped.

I got back in the car. The smart thing may have been to go for the element of surprise, but they had decided the play with cars today.

I drove down the driveway as fast as I could. Luca’s eyes went wide beside me, and he cursed as he realized what I was about to do.

Two men standing as guard in front of the property. They pulled their guns, and Luca and I ducked down as they fired. One planted himself mistakenly thinking I’d stop, the other dove out of my way.

More of them lined up defending the barn with automatics. If that was supposed to deter me, they were sorely mistaken.

I slammed into them as well, only missing a few, hopping out of the car and pulling my gun and dropping the first guy who aimed for me. I didn’t have time for this.

Men spilled out of the barn, shooting at us. Luca and I ducked and covered behind the car doors, trading bullets with them. I was able to hit one in the shoulder, and he dropped Luca, slugging one in the stomach, but he still stayed standing. I aimed for the last one missing. He aimed for me me I ducked I pooped back up and ducked quickly again as he tried to hit me but an idea formed as I moved and I landed on my belly on the ground and aimed for his legs. He fell, and I hit him in the head. Luca had taken out his adversary by that point.

We nodded to each other, flanking the barn, and I held still, trying to see through the slats. I couldn’t see well enough to count the men, but there was plenty to put up a fight.

A scream pierced their air, and my lungs emptied.

I was going to drag him to the pits of hell myself for what he’s done. To his own daughter, no less.

I turned to look at Luca, he was my cousin, my flesh and blood, I wouldn’t force him to follow me into the trap. His resolve was the same as mine, either we died or they did.

I nodded to him and kicked open the door, firing off as many bullets as we could, taking down whoever we could.

May god have mercy on their souls
