Chapter 52
"I made you miscarry," she continued in an emotionless tone. "I had to do it for our mutual good. You continued with your naive and stupid thinking because of that foetus, so I took the life of that foetus."
My eyes widened, my body trembling violently. "No way..." I whispered, feeling like I couldn't believe what I had just heard.
I stared at the figure in the doorway, my body feeling stiff, and my mind filled with disbelief. My eyes rounded as the light in the room illuminated his face.
"Zerg?" my voice was barely audible, but clear enough to make him step into the room.
He walked calmly, not showing the slightest hint of regret or hesitation. His steps were steady, and his usual smile was now more sinister than ever.
"Yes, that's me," he replied casually, standing next to my bed. "You heard me right, Lana. I'm the one who made you lose that foetus."
My heart sank, and anger mixed with sadness bubbled to the surface. "Why?" I demanded, my voice trembling with high pitch. "Why are you doing this, Zerg?! What's wrong with my baby! My baby shouldn't have to go through this!"
I was so angry, even though I had predicted one of the possibilities that it was him but still when I heard directly like this it felt like a meteor exploded inside my chest. I was so angry, I wanted to smash his face right now with my own hands.
He tilted his head slightly, looking at me like he was judging my reaction. "Because I have to," he replied coldly. "You won't be able to focus on this mission if you're constantly distracted by the presence of that foetus."
I gasped, feeling angry and hurt all at once. "That's not your decision to make!" I shouted, trying to get up from the bed even though my body still felt weak. "That foetus is a part of me! You have no right to do this to me!"
Zerg just gave a small snort, as if my emotions were nothing more than a minor annoyance to him. "You know it's true, Lana. If you give birth to Zask's child, you can never truly fight him. You'll be bound by a mother's love for her child, and you won't have the courage to complete this mission."
His words stabbed like a sharp knife. I wanted to deny it, but in my heart I knew that there was truth in his words. But that didn't lessen my pain and anger.
"I can make my own decisions!" I exclaimed, tears starting to roll down my cheeks. "I don't need you to tell me what to do with my life! You have no right to control my life or anything!"
Zerg looked at me with a flat expression. "Maybe you don't need me, but this mission needs you. And I can't risk letting you become weak because of a baby."
Zerg sighed and continued his speech again. "I've praised you so many times but instead of you taking my word for it, you're getting more and more naive and harder to understand, so this is the only last resort I can do."
I couldn't hold myself back anymore. With all my might, I tried to get up from the bed and raised my hand to hit her. But before I could do anything, Zerg moved faster.
He took out a small object from his pocket and deftly stuck it on my temple. In an instant, my vision blurred, and a sense of weakness engulfed my entire body.
"What..." I muttered, before my consciousness completely disappeared.

"Ugh... That's weird, what's going on?"
I woke up with a heavy head and a weak body. The room was still the same, but something felt different. I tried to remember what had just happened, but my mind was like a fog that I couldn't penetrate.
I touched my temples weakly, trying to remember why I fainted. But there was nothing. Everything felt empty, as if a part of my memory had been erased.
It was as if there was a gap in my memory, but no matter how many times I tried to dig into it, it was all blank and there was absolutely nothing that I remembered from that gap. My heart felt that something was missing but my mind could not synchronise with my heart at all.
With difficulty, I sat up on the bed, trying to catch my breath. I felt that something important had just happened, but I didn't know what it was.
"Why do I feel like this?" I whispered softly, looking down at the trembling hands in my lap.
The door to the room opened slowly, and a medical alien entered with a face full of worry. He didn't say anything, just checked my condition before exiting again.
"Allow me to check your condition."
After a while he then finished with his activities and explained my condition to me, I just listened with a hollow feeling without any interest at all in listening to it.
Whatever condition my body was in was completely unimportant to me now after what had happened to me before. Why should I survive while my foetus didn't?
That question was really judging me and I couldn't erase that question from my mind at all.
I stared at the closed door again, a strange feeling enveloping my mind. Something was wrong. Something I couldn't understand, but I knew it was important.
I gripped the blanket in my hands tightly, trying to dig through my memories. But the more I tried, the blurrier everything that happened before became.
"Why do I feel like this?" I asked again, this time in a louder voice. But no one answered, only silence enveloped the room.
I gazed out of the window, looking at the vast, cold shadow of the headquarters. In my heart, I knew that I couldn't stay silent. I had to find the answer, even though I didn't know what exactly I was looking for.
