Chapter 23 — Period

Victor's POV:

I had to make it up to Sophia with extra cuddles and some explanations about where I was. I had to tell her about the rogues. She paled when she knew there were some people who went crazy, that there were some mean people and wolves out there. But she needed to know that that was why I was always worried about her. I wanted her to know about the danger that lurked outside.

That wasn't my smartest move. She got scared, and she kept moving closer to me, crying. I didn't mean to scare her! I just meant to inform her about everything that had happened, but she went into her Little space and started crying.

"Daddy meanie wolfie!" she said in between her sobs. What was I supposed to do now? I just hugged her close. She cuddled closer to my neck. It was a comforting position for a Little to have direct access to her mate's neck. That would be a sign of submission between any other two wolves, but for us, it was a sign of love.

"Daddy will kick any mean wolfie's butt. Don't worry, pumpkin," I told her, still trying to comfort the crying mess. That was when I felt her start sucking on my neck. She was gonna leave a mark if she kept doing that, but that was okay with me. A sign that I was taken. My wolf loved it; he loved everything about our Little mate.

Sophia stayed in the position until she fell asleep. I knew she was asleep because her sucking had turned into a snore, and her body relaxed in my arms. I sighed in relief. I closed my eyes and tried to slip Sophia down a little, but she whined and went back to burying her face in my neck.

I let her be and went to sleep. I woke up to her whining in my arms again. She was pushing herself out of my hands. I let her go, and she ran to the bathroom. That was when I heard her scream. I didn't think; I went and walked in on her to make sure she was okay. She screamed again and closed her legs quickly.

"Daddy, get out," she said in an angry voice.

"What's wrong? Why did you scream?" I asked her, still worried.

"Nuuu, get out!" she said in a meaner voice now.

"Lose the attitude, Little one," I scolded her, making her look down and whine. "Now tell me what's wrong," I commanded her again firmly.

"Gomypewid," she mumbled. I didn't understand what she had said, so I asked her to repeat herself. "Daddy…" she whined. But I was not going to let this pass until she told me what was wrong. "Fiiiineeee!" she said in a whiny voice before adding in a whisper, "I just got my period."

"Oh, baby," I said, not sure what to do now. I lived with three brothers and a Dad—I had no idea what to do for a girl at that time of the month.

"Can you get me some pads? I don't have any. But Mom should have some," Sophia said in a low voice.

I reminded myself that I was just doing this for my mate. Plus, Anna was my stepmother; it should be okay to ask her for that, I thought to myself before heading to her and my father's room. I knocked on the door and waited for a reply. Dad opened the door. I blushed. My baby just made me blush!

"I need Anna," I told my dad.

"Good morning to you too, son. Come in," he said.

"Uh…Anna…Sophia is having that time of the month," I said in frustration. The things we do for love.

"Oh, is she okay?" Anna asked.

"She just needs some…" I trailed off, hoping she'd get it. Thankfully, she got it and went and came back with a pink box. I took it with a "thank you" before going back to my bathroom and handing it to Sophia.

I came back outside and waited for her. We'd skip school today. My baby wasn't well, and I was not taking her anywhere when she was not okay. When she came out of the bathroom, I wrapped my baby in a blanket like a burrito and gave her the teddy bear that slept with us every night. I sat with her in bed, unsure of what to do other than hold her, rubbed her back in a calming way, and let bury her head in my neck.

"You okay, baby?" I asked her.

"Nuh-uh, my tummy huwt," she told me.

"I'm sorry, baby. What can Daddy do to make you feel better?" I asked, desperate. Maybe I should just go ask Anna for help right now.

"Howd me," she said. I did just that, holding her close to me.

This was going to be a long day, but I had no idea what to do for her right now but hold her until she felt better.
