Chapter 21 WHAT STUNT?

Chapter 21 WHAT STUNT?
They keep staring at each other the moment they hear the voice, and for seconds, neither of them moved nor said a word. Finally, Sophia makes an attempt to move for the door, but Callum stops her, shaking his head.
“We need to go out.” She tells him in whispers.
Nodding, “I know.” He answers back in whispers too. “Give me a minute.” He says looking around. Out of options, he puts his hand around her arm and guides her towards the wall next to the door. He gulps, eyes on her, as he moves closer to her. He looks up at her hair ad slowly raises his hand towards it. Looking back down at her, “I … I need to –
Sophia nods finally understanding what he wanted to do. She raised her hand to her hair and scatters it around her face. “How is it?” she asks him.
He nods, his eyes taking her in, and then he gulps. “Believable.” He says, then he turns to face the door.
“Wait.” Sophia says stopping him just as he means to open the door.
Callum looks back at her, wondering what the problem was. He was still staring at her when she begins to move towards him.
Gulping, Sophia raises her hand to her lips and smudges her lip gloss on her lips, then she takes that hand towards his face, eyes on him. She waits until he nods, before she slowly smears it just below his lips. She withdraws her hand, and smiles slowly. “There. Now that is perfect.” She says, then she nods him towards the door.
Nodding, he turns to the door again and opens it to find Ethan standing there, his right hand raised to knock on the door again. Callum chuckles at him. “Missing us already?” Callum asks just as Sophia comes to stand next to him.
Ethan stood there, his eyes finding Sophia first, and then he saw her step forward from behind the door. His eyes immediately begins to run all over her. He took in her hair first, then her smeared lips gloss, then … no! It was not possible that they had … Ethan gulps. He gulps again. “I … you two were gone for long, it got me worried.” He says tucking his hands into his pocket.
Callum rolls his eyes. “You sure do know how to ruin a man’s pleasure.” He says, eyes on Ethan.
Ethan scoffs. “Now, while I do trust Sophia, I do not trust you to be a gentleman.” Ethan says.
Callum laughs. “We are engaged to be married, Ethan, get over it. I can do as I want with –
Pointing at Callum. “Engaged to be married, not married yet. And,” eyes moving between the both of them, “… I still do not believe this stunt yet.”
“Ethan –
“We will talk back at the booth. Now get out of the ladies convenience and allow a lady her space to make herself presentable again after …” he rolls his eyes, “… only heaven’s know what you two were up to.” Ethan says.
Sophia laughs. “I’ll see you two in a minute.” She says turning to Callum.
He nods, “Do not take too long.” He says smiling at her.
“I won’t.” she says moving over to the door and closing it behind both of them.

When she arrived the booth minutes later, both men were discussing and laughing at something. Sophia takes her seat back next to Callum, putting back her phone on the table and crossing her legs.
“Ethan tells me you use to be a little villain yourself when you were a kid.” Callum says turning to face her.
Smiling, “I have always been a sweetheart, I have no idea what Ethan is talking about.” Sophia says looking down and pouring herself a new glass of wine.
He scoffs. “Oh you do, Sophia.” Ethan says spinning the wine glass in his hand. “No one forgets a stunt like that in their life.”
“It’s been years.” Sophia says rolling her eyes.
“There!” Callum says pointing a finger at her. “Proof that you remember, Sophie.”
“Sophie?” Ethan asks.
“He prefers to call me Sophie even though I keep telling him I prefer Sophia.” Sophia tells Ethan.

They continued talking for another couple of hours before they finally stood up to leave. They continued speaking until they get to the garage where Max was already waiting outside the car. He walks over and opens the door just as they arrive next to the car.
“It was wonderful seeing you, Sophia, although you and Callum have decided to pull this game I am still yet to believe is actually true.” Ethan says smiling at her.
Smiling back, “I thought you were his best man?” she asks.
Shrugging, “Sadly, I am the only one he has in this life –
“Not anymore.” Callum cuts in.
Narrowing his eyes at Callum, “The only one in his life now who can do this for him. So yes, against all nods, I am his best man. But I am speaking for you, I do not agree with your choice of a man. You deserve better.”
Sophia laughs, Callum scoffs. “Better? Let me guess, the likes of you?” Callum asks.
“No, much better than even the likes of me.”
“Alright, you are toxic, a best man should not be saying that to his friend’s wife a night to her big day. What if she gets a cold feet?” Callum asks.
“I am hoping she does before time tomorrow. But, until that happens, I guess I will see you two tomorrow day while performing best man duties.” He walks over and hugs Sophia. “Goodbye, Sophia.”
Pulling away and smiling at him. “Goodbye Ethan. See you tomorrow.” Sophia says to him taking the hand Callum was offering her and stepping into the car.
After a few more handshakes and words, Ethan heads for his car, while Callum steps into his car next to Sophia. Sophia sighs in relief the moment Max closes the door behind Callum, and the black windows came up.
“Thank you, Sophia.” Callum says turning the face her just as Max ignites the car and drives away.
She puts on a smile and turns to face him, shrugging. “It was nothing.”
He shakes his head. “No, it was something. Was it any other person, this would have failed today. But it did not, and it is all thanks to you.”
Sophia scoffs. “You flatter me.”
“No, I do not. I am serious, Sophie.”
“It is Sophia, Callum.” She says rolling her eyes.
“And like I said earlier, I think I am beginning to like Sophie better.” Callum says. “The drink, it was a good guess. How did you think to mention it?”
Smiling, “We hear a lot of things when we are on set. I am glad it worked, I cannot believe we forgot something like that.”
“Ethan has always been too thorough for his own good.” He glances at his wrist watch. “Where do you live? I will have Max take us there.”
She immediately shakes her head. “No. drop me
at the next bus stop, I will take it from there.”
