Chapter 12: A Showstopper

Alex arrived at school with bruises and bandages. When I saw him like that, I was shocked and asked, "What happened to you?"

"Max and I fought over a girl," he responded. Ooh. I'm curious about that chick. Who was this mysterious girl who drew Alex in? My best friend Alex, the school god, the practically perfect, finally got a crush on a female mortal? He did, of course. It would be strange if even one of the most attractive boys in school did not like someone. You know, he's not a eunuch. She was lucky, because Alex was attractive and pleasant.

Alex was, in fact, the sweetest and most gentlemanly man I had ever met. I'm thrilled for Alex because he's found the girl who made his heart skip a beat. I'd hand over Alex to her. Lance Delaney was my crush in the school. He was both attractive and powerful. He was the basketball team's captain. He didn't have a girlfriend yet, I discovered. He was one of the hottest boys in school, which was strange. It was strange that someone as attractive as him was still single.

Hannah, my seatmate and friend, informed me that Lance had split up with Megan Monroe, a cheerleader. I never met Megan. Megan and Lance split up, according to Hannah, when Megan transferred to another school. They were unable to maintain a long-distance relationship.

According to Hannah, Megan was blonde, with long, naturally curly hair, an angelic face, and an angelic heart. She had curves in all the right places, but she was conscious of her body because most of her fellow cheerleaders were slim. She loved to wear bow headbands of different colors and shades, but her favorite was the maroon one. Apparently, it was her favorite color.

Lance used to match Megan's clothing with a maroon jacket. However, he had not worn the maroon jacket since their breakup.

Lance was born into a wealthy family. His father was the owner of the Stellar Strong Wine firm. Mr. Delaney was also the one who made the wines. And because Lance was wealthy, he was able to lavishly shower Megan with costly clothes and jewels on a monthly basis.

Megan was the nicest popular girl in our batch. Everyone else had attitude problems. They let their popularity go to their heads. But Megan was different—she was friendly and warm to everyone. She was also studious. She liked studying and keeping her grades up. Most students who did not like studying rely on their extracurricular activities just so they could avoid sitting in the class and listening to the discussion and/or taking a quiz. The popular girls envied Megan because she was pretty, popular, and smart. The “regular” girls looked up to her.

Megan must have been a lucky girl, because Lance went out of his way to make her happy. Megan, on the other hand, ended their relationship. I wonder what was it like to be Lance’s girlfriend? It was my dream to become his girlfriend.

Alex was such a darling. He was kind to me. He was friends with a gay guy from another section. Chris was the name of his gay friend. Chris did my hair and makeup, and he showed me how to apply it for dates and every day. I was dead set on catching Lance's attention, my biggest crush. Alex and Chris have been quite helpful to me since they genuinely want me to achieve my goal. Alex surprised me with a plethora of lovely clothes, shoes, handbags, and jewelry. I exclaimed. That was not anything he had to do for me. Alex, on the other hand, urged that I accept his gifts. I showed my gratitude to him in a heartfelt manner. I was really fortunate to have a loving, kind, and generous friend.

He informed me I didn't have to thank him. That he was simply assisting me in realizing how lovely I was. He flattered me too much, and my cheeks blushed for a short time. They must be turning a bright crimson color. But I'm relieved that Alex did not notice it.

A peach dress, a little black dress, a mauve dress, a floral pink dress, a pink and white mini dress, a red dress, an A-line black dress, a sky gradient dress, a beautiful jumpsuit, and a baby pink dress were among the lovely dresses he gifted me.

To go with these dresses, he gave me nude heels, black heels, sleek black boots, magenta sandals, light pink pumps, red stilettos, black heels with black bows in front, icy blue glitter heels, and light pink floral pumps.

He gave me pricey pink pearl earrings, a golden heart necklace, a golden bracelet, a designer watch, white pearl earrings, a tiny golden necklace, a silver necklace, a silver wristwatch, floral earrings, a gem necklace, a cute floral bracelet, a pink rosy headband, star earrings, a diamond collier, a rosegold watch, rhinestone bangles, diamond stud earrings, a sapphire necklace, a nude watch, an amber pendant necklace, black diamond earrings, a golden cuff, a simple black watch, an antique wristwatch, pink quartz earrings, a gold leaf necklace, a pearl bracelet, a blue watch, crystal stud earrings, a diamond necklace, an abstract silver cuff, and a rhinestone watch.

The bags he gave me were a simple black clutch bag, a rhinestone clutch bag, a multicolor handbag, a pink and gold bag, a light pink satchel bag, a red satin bag, a simple black handbag, a silver clutch bag, a light pink mini bag, and a pearl ball clutch bag.

I did not understand why Alex gave me such unnecessary expensive gifts. But he was a great friend. And his gay friend Chris was my fairy godmother.

Alex's girlfriend would be fortunate, since my loving best friend was generous and thoughtful. I felt a bit envious of Alex's future partner, whoever she was. He was the epitome of a gentleman. But Alex was only a friend of mine. We couldn't be together.

Because Hannah mentioned Lance's ex-girlfriend Megan as being attractive and sexy, I tried to tone my physique at home. These activities were found on YouTube. Using a new phone my father bought for me, I just copied what I watched on YouTube. It was an inexpensive phone. In comparison to what my peers have, it's a basic phone. My classmates all had iPhones, which were extremely pricey. To be honest, having this phone was sufficient for me. The phone was not particularly pricey, but it had good quality.

I followed the female coach's high-intensity interval training and weightlifting sessions. I was never particularly athletic, but I like working out. It's energizing. Sweating was initially unsettling, but I soon became accustomed to it. The virtual coach advised me to stick to my calorie deficit. Since then, I've become more aware of all the foods and beverages that pass through my mouth on their way to my stomach.

I memorized the foods and beverages with high calories so I could avoid them and the foods and drinks with low calories so I could choose to consume them instead, based on an article I read online. I also memorized the calories of every food and drink recommended in numerous health articles. Megan was known for her diligence, so I began to take my studies seriously as well. Megan's Instagram images were copied by Hannah and given to me. Oh, my goodness! Megan Monroe was unfathomably hot! She had the appearance of a supermodel. If she wanted to, she could pursue a career as an actress in television and film. I became instantly self-conscious about my physical appearance.

I called Alex's gay friend Chris, my official fairy godmother, on the phone to ask him to teach me how to do a new look with my makeup and hair. I went over to his place and showed him Megan photographs on my phone.

"Wait, isn't this Megan Monroe, Lance's ex?" Chris said as he looked over each photo.

"Yes," I said. Megan was really that popular, huh? This school's students remembered her. She must be some sort of a queen bee in this academy.

Chris blew a raspberry and said, "Never, ever, ever emulate your future boyfriend's ex-girlfriend. First and foremost, it's creepy. Second, Lance will recognize this. Third, you'll just come across as a clone. Nobody likes a copycat, girl."

I took Chris' advice and tried to be myself. That I should develop my own style.

Plus, I gave up my customary favorite drink in favor of a bland coffee simply to look sexy for Lance. I suppressed my own happiness by eating and drinking wonderful meals and beverages in order to have a great body and attract the attention of my crush. I'd go to any length to get Lance's attention.

I used to be content to simply observe him outside the classroom and in the gym. But I was confident that Lance would notice me because Chris showed me how to apply makeup and hair on dates and regular days, and Alex got me many gorgeous outfits, shoes, purses, and jewelry. I'll simply sit down and look lovely, Alex said. He'd see to it that his plan was carried out.

Alex's strategy worked. Lance had finally noticed me! We then assisted Alex in getting into his car, as he needed to get home. Alex pretended to be injured and needed to "recover" at home. Alex stated that his personal nurse would look after him at home. Of course, it was all an act. It had all been planned. Anyway, Lance and I have been talking since Alex went home.

"So you're Alex's friend," Lance explained.

"Yes, I am," I said, "He's my best friend."

"Are you certain you're just friends? You're certain you'll never fall in love with each other?" He asked.

I told him, “We're only friends. Why?" I asked.

"Nothing," she says. "It's just that I'm drawn to you," he said.

I couldn't believe my eyes! Those magical words were spoken to me by him! These phrases are soothing to my ears. "Really?" I asked. I did my hardest to keep my excitement hidden.

“Yeah. You are beautiful.” He told me. I noticed that I was blushing. I couldn’t believe Lance was so taken with me right away. Lance was flawless. All I did was try to appear attractive to him. Not to add that I used my acting talents to convince him that I was concerned about Alex's fictitious injury.

"I'm not simply referring to your physical look. You've probably been told many times that you're attractive. I was deeply moved by your concern for your friend, Alex.” He told me, "You are a nice, thoughtful, and caring person." I was impressed and moved by his remarks. Lance wasn't just about gorgeous faces, I discovered. He was also drawn to a pleasant personality and caring heart. I started to like him more.

"Do you want to go out on a date with me?" He asked me. This was the turning point in my life. Since the first time I saw him, I've been waiting for this for approximately six months. He was simply passing by when I saw him outside my classroom. His presence was unlike any other. He exuded pure confidence. His body was slender but strong, and his face was dreamy. His posture and walk exuded confidence. It was as if he knew he was significant and that everyone else was staring in admiration as he strutted down the corridor like a Greek god. People stared at him everywhere he went. He was a head-turner. He also smelled really good.

To be honest, I admired him in the same way that a fan admires her favorite celebrity. I was completely consumed. How could someone not be obsessed with him after seeing him? He had a fascinating and charismatic personality.

It meant a lot to me that he acknowledged my presence and existence, and that he informed me that he liked me. I may have come across as a groupie, but I couldn't care less. I really liked him. As a result, I said "yes."
