Chapter 157
As time went on, my consciousness started to blur, and eventually, I drifted into a deep sleep.
Maybe I was just too exhausted, but I had this weird dream.
In the dream, I found myself standing in a dense jungle.
This place wasn’t unfamiliar; if I wasn’t mistaken, it was on this deserted island.
In front of me was a building surrounded by spikes. From what I remembered, only ancient tribes would use spikes like that to keep wild animals away.
“Where am I?” I wondered, feeling totally confused.
I had just been at the camp, so how did I end up here all of a sudden?
After thinking for a bit, I figured, “I must be dreaming.”
I never thought a dream could feel so real. Could it be that I’ve actually started to like this deserted island?
Looking at the strange building ahead, I couldn’t help but walk forward, passing through a stone gate and arriving at a huge plaza.
In the center of the plaza, a bonfire was burning, and around it were wooden huts, forming the living area of this tribe.
“Hello? Anyone here?” I shouted, trying to find the residents of this tribe.
The surroundings were silent, with no response.
Realizing this, I laughed at myself. It’s just a dream; how could there be anyone?
Shaking my head, I kept walking, but my steps eventually stopped in front of the nearest wooden hut.
This hut was larger than the others, with a cow skull hanging at the entrance and animal skins draped on either side of the doorframe, giving it a mysterious appearance.
Without hesitation, I stepped into the hut.
The wooden door creaked as it opened.
The sensations and sounds made me doubt whether I was really dreaming.
The light inside the hut was very dim, with only a few rays of light seeping through the wooden cracks.
Using these faint beams, I could roughly make out the layout of the room.
To my left was a stone about as tall as I was, emitting a faint glow.
Curious, I slowly walked over and reached out to touch the stone.
However, a burning sensation instantly spread through my fingers, forcing me to quickly withdraw my hand.
This experience made me wary of trying again, so I decided to bypass the stone and continue exploring the mysterious hut.
I noticed strange symbols carved all over the hut, seemingly guiding something.
What caught my attention the most was a spear at the front of the hut, covered in mysterious runes.
As if drawn to it, I found myself gripping the spear’s handle, feeling the cold metal and its heavy weight.
I frowned, sensing something was off, and thought about letting go and leaving.
Now, I wasn’t sure if I was dreaming anymore.
Just as I was about to release the spear, I felt a strange familiarity with it, compelling me to lift it and swing it around the hut.
As the spear sliced through the air, I felt an odd sense of familiarity, like the spear and I shared some kind of mysterious connection.
Despite my growing attachment to the spear, I knew I couldn’t stay here long.
I placed the spear back and decided to leave.
A bad feeling lingered in my gut.
Just a few steps away, I noticed a blurry figure slowly approaching me.
I quickly crouched down to hide.
I tried to see who it was, but my vision was inexplicably blurry.
Though I couldn’t see clearly, the approaching footsteps were unmistakable, making me very uneasy. I could only hope I wouldn’t be discovered.
Hiding in the dark corner of the hut, I held my breath and waited.
Soon, the figure slowly entered the hut.
From the silhouette and movements, I deduced it was a woman, wearing clothes of an indistinguishable color, slowly walking towards me.
And she was coming straight at me without any hesitation.
Though I couldn’t guarantee my hiding spot was perfect, it shouldn’t have been so obvious.
The figure stopped right beside me.
Realizing I couldn’t avoid it, I stood up.
“Who are you?” I asked nervously.
She didn’t answer but instead lunged at me with something in her hand.
I dodged to the side.
The attacks didn’t stop, and I knew I was at a disadvantage without a weapon.
Dodging, I moved towards where I had placed the spear.
The woman seemed to realize my intention and tried to stop me.
But it was too late. I quickly grabbed the spear and blocked her attack.
Just as I was about to strike back, the spear in my hand suddenly transformed into a black snake.
Startled by the sudden change, I immediately let go.
As soon as I released it, her weapon came down without hesitation.
I watched helplessly as I was struck, knowing this time I was really going to die.
Suddenly, I jolted awake at the hut’s entrance, drenched in sweat and gasping for air.
I realized it had all been a dream.
Scared to death, I patted my chest.
“What’s wrong?” Kurt asked, puzzled.
He had noticed my rapid breathing earlier and was about to wake me when he saw me sit up.
I didn’t answer immediately. Standing up, I found my legs numb and weak from lying down too long.
My body involuntarily leaned to the side, and Kurt quickly ran over to support me.
“Just lay down too long, my legs are numb,” I explained.
Kurt didn’t say much, just silently helped me, and we slowly walked towards the campfire outside.
Though the fear and unease from the dream still lingered in my heart, I knew I needed to stay alert and calm in reality to handle any situation that might arise.
By the campfire, Kurt handed me a cup of water, and I took a big gulp.
Feeling the real sensation in my body, I finally let out a long breath and slowly calmed down.
