CHAPTER SEVENTY-FIVE

CHAPTER SEVENTY-FIVE

Cassie POV

I woke the next morning with a sudden urge for breakfast.

To be fair I didn’t know when the last time was, I ate.

I throw back the duvet, stretch and head downstairs.

But not before reaching for my phone.

As I do I look at the time 10:30am.

I didn’t realise I had slept in so long.

Much needed rest, I guess.

I slip my phone into the pocket of my night robe, and I carry on down towards the kitchen.

Halfway down the stairs and my cell starts to ring.

I stop in my tracks and fumble around for my cell.

I retrieve it just as it stops ringing.

I look to see who I missed the call from.

Jericho.

I think about calling him back, but then my stomach growls.

I can’t skip breakfast I need to feed this monster.

So, I tuck my phone snuggly back into my pocket and carry on down the stairs to the kitchen.

As I make my way to the hall I hear the door unlocking.

Alexis was home.

Perfect timing.

I would have called her after breakfast anyway.

But this was way better.

I had so much to tell her.

As she walked in, I ran to her and wrapped my arms around her so tightly.

I wanted her to know how much I had missed her.

“Ok, ok can I at least get through the door.”

“Jeez Cass it’s been like 12 hours what’s gotten into you?”

She was right.

When she went away to her parents for a week, I want anything like this.

I guess I just felt lost without her.

“I just missed you that’s all.”

I step back and look towards her.

“How comes you came back.”

I asked her.

She stopped in her tracks getting through the door.

She was thinking about something.

The next words out of her mouth maybe.

Pffft.

Yeah right.

Alexis Winters never thinks about the words coming out of her mouth.

“You look different.”

She says.

No way she could possibly know about me and Jericho.

“I don’t know what you could possibly mean.”

I say smugly turning away from her.

Nope I wasn’t getting into this with her right now.

I was way too hungry and needed to have at least one cup of coffee before I told Alexis all of the secrets, I had been harbouring the last 24 hours since she had left.

As she followed me to the kitchen, she started her interrogation.

“You can’t run away from me Cassie.”

“I know something has happened.”

“I can feel it.”

“It’s my best friend telepathy.”

“It’s been doing the cha cha since last night.”

I started laughing.

Her theories are wild.

“Best friend telepathy.”

“You do say the strangest things Lex.”

As we barely make it to the kitchen.

Especially after Alexis’s interrogation started to make me feel uncomfortable.

I head straight to the coffee machine and start making my cup of coffee.

I could hear Alexis nattering on behind me.

“Cass come on spill the tee.”

“I can see it all over your face.”

She was right I couldn’t hide the excitement I was feeling about seeing Jericho today.

Especially now that our relationship has progressed.

Well, I say progressed.

Maybe progressed might not be the best word for it.

But something has definitely changed in the dynamic of it.

I turn to her with a massive grin on my face.

As soon as she saw it she started squealing.

“I knew it, spill.”

“And don’t leave anything out.”

Where did I start.

Maybe I should start at the fact I was leaving Jericho’s company and becoming an actual writer for a different company.

She was waiting for me to expectantly carry on.

“Well…”

“I got a new job offer.”

“An actually really good job offer.”

Her eyes widened.

“Where, when, who?”

Three good questions.

I stroll over to the dining table and sit down where she is at.

“The place is called McCormick’s publishing.”

“Monday morning.”

“And I think I cleared up the who with McCormick.”

She side eyed me.

But she seemed impressed.

“McCormick’s Publishing.”

“That’s a really good publishing house.”

“I think it’s a step down from Jericho’s in the prestigious category.”

She wasn’t wrong.

Jericho’s company was the top in the country.

The only other one was McCormick’s.

“Yeah well, they’ve offered me a job to become a writer.”

She covers her mouth with her hands in shock.

“Cass that’s great news.”

“That’s a dream for you.”

“But why am I getting the impression that it’s not all joy in Cassie land.”

This girl was on fire today.

She knew me so well.

She was right.

It wasn’t all joyful in Cassie land as she put it.

“To tell the truth Lex.”

“I don’t know what to do.”

“If I take the job then I’ll be leaving Jericho.”

“But I will be an idiot to turn down this opportunity, wouldn’t I?”

Alexis started to nod her head.

Well don’t sugar coat it, Lex.

“You have to do what’s best for you Cass.”

“But this is your dream.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

She looks at me tilting her head.

“Cass.”

“Hmm.”

“Has something happened between you and Jericho?”

I stopped taking a sip of my coffee and put it down on the table slowly.

I had to tell her.

I needed to tell someone.

I needed to tell her.

She’s my best friend.

So here it goes.

I was about to start explaining to her about last night.

How Jericho showed up here last night.

Drunk.

How I had finally confessed my love to Jericho after waiting so long.

And then after doing so we almost gave into each other and had sex.

But instead, he pleasured me with his fingers.

Fingers that worked there, magic on my pussy like a drum.

When my cell started to ring.

It was Jericho again.

“Sorry Lex, let me just take this call quick.”

She rolled her eyes.

She knew it was Jericho.

I guess it’s the goofy smile I get whenever he calls.

I answer.

“Hey.”

“I was just…”

“Cassandra.”

“Where are you?”

He sounded panicked.

“I’m at home why?”

“What’s going on Jericho?”

“Stay there.”

“I’m coming right to you.”

I hear a car door slam.

“Jericho…”

“Just stay there.”

“I’m on my way.”

And the call ended.

That was so strange.

Jericho sounded terrified.

What could possibly have him so shaken up?

Well, I guess I’ll find out soon enough.
