Chapter 15 Chapter fifteen
His face turned cold and he turned back to the speaker. “Who gave you that information?” He asked coldly.
“Who cares? The fact remains she did, or didn't she?” The guy that said it asked his face smug, looking down on Noah because he was more older than him.
“Really? Emma ran away with a man? I saw this coming. She's so proud and full of herself always. So she's also promiscuous”
“The spoilt thing. Always thinking she's a princess whereas she's just a cheap girl that can run off at anytime” the growing crowd of students mocked.
Seeing the situation escalating, he rushed up to the senior boy and grabbed his clothes. “You big for nothing junkie. Spoiling my sister Emma name.” He fumed shoving the boy against the wall.
A huge fight immediately broke out. The principal was quickly called upon and they were both sent to detention till the close of school that day. This was exactly what wendy wanted.
As lessons began, Wendy bent over clutching her tummy with pain written all over her face. “Miss Wendy, are you alright?” The homeroom teacher asked worriedly.
She shook her head “i am feeling really sick ma'am.”
“You should go to the sickbay” Miss Ann advised and tried to go and get help but Wendy held her wrist and shook her head. “ No need ma'am there's nothing they can do about it. Just give me a permit to go home. I'm an ulcer patient and i forgot my drugs at home” she lied.
She was given the permit and was offered someone to escort her home. But she declined on the grounds that her parents don't like her moving with strangers. When they offered to call her parents, she refused with the excuse they were busy at work. With no other options, they had to let her go as her condition was getting worse.
On getting home and making sure the servants weren't watching anymore. She dropped her earlier act and snuck into the walkers couple bedroom. She began to search frantically for Benjamin heart pills. Finally, she found it in a hidden corner.
She emptied its content into her palm and poured in a similar one in the container. She took the real pills and flushed them down the toilet.
Next, she went into the study to steal a certain document her father told her to bring. But after ransacking for a long time, she didn't find it and time was running out. But as she was about to give up, she finally found a safe in a hidden mechanism inside the wall of the study.
It was locked with a password and Wendy knew everything vital has to be in there. She tried all the dates she knew in her mind but they were all incorrect. After five incorrect attempts, an alarm suddenly went off and began to blare loudly and the door of the study slammed shut.
But they underestimated Wendy. Seeing the door refused to budge, She smashed the window with a stool and nimbly climbed out with precise and calculated movement after cleaning with a wipe, any surface her hands must have touched.
By the time the estate security heard the alarm and rushed to check who was trying to breach the system, Wendy was already back in her room and pretending to be severely ill.
Mr and Mrs Walker hurried back to the house on hearing the house was broken into. But after serious interrogation of the servants, no one knew or saw a thief breaking in but the window was shattered. From explanation, it was clear that the thief only used the window as an escape route. Then how did he or she get in?
“The young miss came home…” a servant blurred out unsure of if to go on or not.
“Wendy..?” The couple simultaneously asked and ran to her bedroom but didn't find her.
“Wendy..! Wendy…!” They called loudly searching the room. They found her in the corner of the room shivering in fright.
“Wendy baby…” Allen said sitting down beside her and warmly embracing her, patting her hair softly. But Benjamin was not easily convinced. “Aren't you supposed to be at school now? Why are you home?” He asked narrowing his eyes at her.
Wendy began to sob pitifully her small body frame looking pitifully. Allen felt hurt in her heart and angrily began to scold him. “Why are you been so strict and wicked? How can suspect our daughter, our blood, someone that have been missing for years… of…of…” on reaching this part, Allen couldn't go on and broke down.
Benjamin face softened “I'm sorry dear but I was just concerned too” he coaxed squatting down and hugging both of them together.
“I'm sorry mom and dad for leaving school. I have ulcer due to lack of complete square meals at the orphanage. In excitement this morning, i forgot my drugs at home. I had an episode at school and had to come back home because my condition was bad and the sick bay couldn't do much without the drugs. When i got home and took it, i lay down to sleep for a bit but the alarms went off suddenly. The sound frightened me and i had to hide” she lied tears falling from her eyes.
On hearing this, Allen exploded in anger. “Why did that foolish boy Noah not accompany you home? And i think that academy is becoming incompetent too. How can they leave a sick girl to go home all by herself?” She questioned angrily.
“Noah got into a fight at school today mom. Someone insulted Emma and he fought him and they were both sent to detention. The academy is really good and competent. I was the one that declined anyone following me back” Wendy replied.
“Serves him right. Fighting for an ungrateful girl that ran away from the home that she was raised for sixteen years.” Benjamin said and encouraged Wendy to go back to rest, assuring her that she's safe.
As they left, a triumphant smile gradually appeared on Wendy's lips.
At supper later that day, Noah was severely scolded for ruining the image of the family at school, while Wendy played the kind big sister trying to pacify the angry couple.
“Dad please don't get too angry. It's not good for your heart and might worsten your condition” Wendy said to Benjamin with fake concern written all over her. “Thank you my angel. You're the true daughter of the family” he said happily.
But Noah's face suddenly changed and he looked up from his food straight at Wendy.
“How did you know dad has a heart condition.?”
