In Love with the CEO

ALEXANDER
I was lying on my bed, waiting for her to come out so I could freshen up, but at one point, I felt a cold hand on my chest. When I opened my eyes, it was her.
Me: “What are you playing at, exactly?”
She paused for a few seconds, as if processing the information, but then resumed the same position. I angrily pushed her hands away. Is she crazy or what? Does she think I’m going to sleep with a woman in this room? Even though the room has been redone from floor to ceiling, from the bed to the small sitting area, to accommodate her, it doesn’t change the fact that my daughter was conceived in this room. I spent the best and worst moments with my wife in this room. I lost my wife in this room. Even if it doesn’t look the same anymore, it’s still our room, hers and mine, filled with all our memories. I’m not going to tarnish that by sleeping with her. So everything she’s doing right now is annoying me to no end.
Me, continuing: “What are you doing?”
Alex: “I came to lie next to the man who’s supposed to be my husband. What are these questions you’re asking me?”
When I sat up, I noticed she was wearing very sexy lingerie that would make any normal man falter—but not me. She shouldn’t dream; nothing is going to happen between us.
Me, getting up: “You should put something on your back; you might catch a cold otherwise.”
Alex: “What are you playing at?”
Me, walking past her: “I’m not playing at anything. I’m just telling the truth. If you’ve forgotten why you’re here, let me remind you: you’re here to take care of Julia, that’s it. Not to sleep with me. Didn’t you say a few days ago that I wasn’t your type? Wild animals like me don’t really like your type either. So go put something on and sleep. It’s late, and Julia has school tomorrow.”
With those words, I left her there and went into the bathroom. She didn’t say anything else and stayed sitting on the bed. If she’s waiting for me, she’s obviously wasting her time. I have no intention of touching her.
When I came out of the bathroom, I swapped my robe for sweatpants. I was about to leave when something caught my attention. I noticed that the clothes in my room had been moved. How dare she touch my wife’s things? How could she? I took the clothes she hung in the closet and went back to the bedroom with them. She was still sitting there when I arrived.
Me, throwing the clothes on the floor: “What’s this?”
Alex, a bit surprised: “Those are my things. Why are you throwing them?”
Me, trying to control my anger: “How dare you touch my wife’s things? How?”
Alex, picking her things up off the floor: “There wasn’t any space in the closet. I just moved her things to your side where there was room so I could hang a few things. I didn’t know it would bother you.”
Me: “Since you didn’t ask, how would you know it bothers me? Don’t let me catch you touching her things again.”
I was so angry that I left her there and went to bed. She disappeared and came back from the closet with her suitcases, dragging them to the small sitting area. Even in the dark, with only the nightlight, I could see tears glistening on her beautiful face.
She settled into an armchair, repacked her suitcase, left it there, and came back to bed, this time at the far end, turning her back to me as quietly as possible so as not to disturb me. Despite her silence, I could hear her crying. I really wanted to take her in my arms to comfort her. I hated myself for making her cry, but this urge to protect her made me angrier than anything else.
When I woke up this morning, she wasn’t in bed anymore. I saw her come out of the closet, her face swollen and eyes red from all the tears she shed last night. She headed to her suitcases, grabbed an outfit, and went back to the closet. She came out dressed in blue jeans that hugged her curves and a black camisole. She left the room without saying a single word to me, and honestly, I didn’t feel like talking to her either.
ALEX
When I woke up this morning, I had a terrible headache, but I got out of bed anyway to take care of my daughter. Now I have a child under my responsibility. Even if I feel like staying depressed in bed, I can’t. I don’t have the right to falter. Even when I want to cry, I have to smile for her. Being a mother is a huge responsibility, and I’m starting to understand that now.
Alexander was so horrible to me last night that I couldn’t sleep a wink. I don’t know when I started crying because he hit me right in the heart. I don’t know what I did to deserve this kind of treatment. I thought I could start anew and find the happiness I never had with my own mother once I was married, but I was wrong. I feel like the years ahead will be the worst of my life. The man I love treats me like an outcast. There’s so much standing between us right now, and apparently, my rival is someone who’s no longer in this world. How can I fight that? It’s a losing battle from the start. I brush away the tears blurring my vision. I don’t want to cry for that jerk this morning. Of course, he’s a huge jerk.
When I entered Julia’s room, she was still sleeping. I ran my hands through her hair to gently wake her, careful not to startle her.
Me, whispering: “Juliaaa.”
She visibly started to wake up.
Me, still whispering: “My darling, wake up. We need to get ready for school.”
Julia, stretching: “I want to stay with you today.”
Me, stroking her hair: “Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other. Can you wash up on your own, or do you need help?”
Julia, laughing: “I’m a big girl. I can wash myself.”
Me, laughing in return: “Alright, hurry up then. We’ll have breakfast with Daddy before he goes to work.”
She ran to the bathroom, not forgetting to flash me a smile before disappearing. She’s truly a ray of sunshine, this little one. I sincerely think she’ll help me endure my time in this house.
When she came back, I helped her get dressed, and she asked me to brush her hair and put it in a ponytail like mine, which I did with pleasure. When we finished, we packed her bag before leaving her room. As we stepped out, the first person we ran into was Thea, who was also coming out of her room.
Me, with a small smile: “Good morning!”
Thea, turning to Julia: “My little darling, all awake?”
Julia: “Yes, Auntie!”
Thea, pulling me into a hug: “Good morning, dear sister-in-law. Did you have a good night?”
No, your brother is a huge jerk. He made me cry all night and didn’t even bother to apologize this morning.
Me: “Yes, yes.”
Thea: “From the look on your face, it’s obvious. You look like you didn’t sleep.”
Me, sighing: “How did you know? I didn’t close my eyes all night.”
Thea, laughing: “Is my brother that good?”
Me, taking Julia’s hand: “No, it’s not what you think.”
Thea: “Sure, sure… I’m going to congratulate my big brother then…”
If she only knew what really happened between that animal and me. I’d rather not talk about that jerk, and starting tonight, I’m changing rooms. I don’t want to spend another second next to that animal.
