Serena Mclane's P. O. V Riding back over to Damien's office is a boring affair as all the man himself actually did do was to tap away on his phone, barely even noticing my presence. Now I don't say it in a way that I was actually pining for his attention but being talked to once or twice in an hours drive would be nice. I lean my head back on the chair as Damien rifles through its contents. I blow air past my lips and am about to let out a low groan but am interrupted as his office door opens. I can already tell it's Greg because no other person would dare to just barge in like that. True to my thoughts, Greg enters but he's not alone. I immediately stand up and hug the man. "I'll marry you soon enough." I say happily as he hands me the brown paper bag containing food. "I wouldn't mind but I'm afraid grumpy over there would." He says winking. I glance at Damien who sits there, now looking up from that file he's been staring at for the past hour, eyebrows furrowed and a slight scowl marring his face. I take a seat next to Greg who hands Damien out his food before digging into his own. I munch on my fries as I point to the file, "What exactly did you steal that for?" I ask an annoyed looking Damien. "I didn't steal anything," Upon my blank look, he further clarifies, "Remember a few months back when your father threw a big celebration for landing a big partner who was worth millions." I slightly squint as I try to recall what had happened. Just this past week has felt like an entire year especially with the fact of me moving into Damien's house just yesterday. The whole engagement and everything just seems so surreal. However I do recall, my mother and I being dragged by our father to some fancy gala so he could celebrate about landing a big investment partner that he dearly needed, or something along those lines. I rarely listen when it comes to pompous people and their pretentious parties. "Yeah, kind of." I mumble. Damien nods and continues, "Well I was originally landing that partner but apparently when I introduced him to your father, he took quite a liking to the man and took him right out from under me. Be serious Greg." Damien adds at the end as Greg giggles like a schoolgirl who's just been looked at by her crush. "So now you're taking that file in revenge so that you'll get the money while my father falls short." I answer, piecing everything together. "Yes but it's not the file that I need," Damien answers me while glaring at Greg who's too busy playing with a strand of my hair. I glance at him in confusion before he answers. "More like the person that comes with it." ********* The rest of the day goes by in utter boredom. Damien has his head stuck in that damn file continuously while Greg wanders off to annoy somebody else with his antics. As soon as we reach home I decide to make dinner since I know for a fact Damien won't be making it–not out of choice though– and it'll preoccupy me with having something to actually do. Looking out the kitchen window, I can't help but to smile at the sight of the dark grey and purple sky as bolts of lightening streak across it, glowing my surroundings up in an eerie way. The sheets of rains makes a light tapping noise against the exterior of the house. Usually people hate this type of weather but I can't help but to feel at ease. This type of weather wants to make you curl up into a blanket with a hot beverage in one hand and a book in another. Just then and there I decide what the rest of my day will consist of. The rain doesn't seem to be letting up either so it'll be great. As soon as dinner is ready, I find myself wandering the house to find Damien. Peaking in through his bedroom door, I see nothing except pitch blackness. I guess someone really likes the dark. You can barely make anything out except for faint outlines and looming shadows of objects. But I can still tell that nobody is in there, it's too silent. Turning away, I decide to locate where the study is. Descending down the stairs, I go down the first hallway I see. I know I've never been in this part of the house as I take note of the gold wallpaper and single door right at the end of the corridor. There is only one other room but that's padlocked, making me think it's probably some sort of storage room. I haven't gotten the chance to actually explore the house. Being with Damien barely gives you any free time. Knocking on the door, I can see light pouring from under the gap between the door and floor. So I know someone's in here at least. Instead of answering me verbally, the door swings open revealing a pissed off looking Damien. Damien glances at me and raises his index finger, motioning for me to hold. I raise a brow but don't say anything, instead taking note of how he's still decked out in his suit. I won't be surprised to find out that he even sleeps in them. Does he even own an article of normal clothing? A pair of sweats at the very least. It'll make me feel less bad over the fact that half of my wardrobe consists of just that. Baggy tees and baggy sweat pants to match. Damien finally lowers the phone, his scowl not fading as he glares at me like I'm the one who's pissed him off. "What?" He snaps at me. I narrow my eyes at him in annoyance but don't say anything. I can tell he's stressed out but that doesn't mean he has to take out on other people. "Dinner is ready. I'm heading to my room. I'll keep it in the microwave shall I?" I ask in fake politeness. His sudden attitude has irked as well as slightly displeased me. Damien just nods and then turns away firing questions at the poor person on the other end of the line. He glances at me with an irritated expression when I don't leave immediately, "Do you need anything?" He growls out. I sigh and shake my head, turning away from him. However I won't let his current brashness towards me ruin my day and so I scurry to my room after eating–admittedly lingering around in case Damien decides to show up– settling in the window seat, I admire the view of the trees swaying in the rain and the high pitched sound of the wind. Opening up a classical favourite of mine; Pride and Prejudice. I delve into its words and contents. The unregistered stress of the day escaping off of me in relaxing waves. ******* A soft thudding and clanging makes its way into my mind, stirring awake my conscious. Wearily taking in my surroundings, I note–with a half awakened mind that is– that I had fallen asleep while reading my book. Sitting up, I stretch my stiff muscles and let out a low groan. My entire body feels cramped and aching. I have to remind myself to never fall asleep on the thing. My eyes search the room until they find the object they seek; My clock perched proudly on the wall. The glowing hands point out the time but my brain takes a few minutes to register the time. And when it does, I can't help but to let out another groan. Three fifteen in the morning. I stand and fold my blanket neatly, placing it on the seat before making my way towards my head, undoing my French braid that I'm sure will cause knots when i wake up in the morning. Just as my leg comes into contact with the mattress of the bed, the clanging noise erupts again. As I strain my ears, I can hear a low continuous thumping noise. Music? No, it's too all over the place but it also isn't that same resonating thumping noise one would get from standing outside a club. Now that I can hear it, I know I won't be able to sleep unless I either stop it or at least find out what it is. Maybe the back door is open and hasn't been shut closed properly. Sighing, I stand up and make my way downstairs. My aim to head to the kitchen but I stop in my tracks as a low grunt ensues. My eyes widen and I look around in panic. My feet make a street beeline for where the noise echoes from, down the very same hall I found myself in just earlier today or well technically yesterday. I however stop just at the mouth of the hallway. What if Damien's hurt? But what if something else is going on. My mind flits over to whether I can remember seeing another car parked in the driveway. I swear to all that is holy, if I'm acting all Sherlock Holmes like because Damien's out to have a good time, I will neuter him. But then again, what if he's in pain or something. I once more walk further into the hallway, my eyes darting to the room that was padlocked a few hours prior. Now it's unlocked with a slit slowing just the teensiest bit of light. The clanging noise getting louder and louder with each step I take. Now I'm sure it's not any of the two previous situations that I had imagined beforehand. The wind still howling and speedily blowing by makes my hair stand on end and goose bumps to appear. This reminds of those cliché horror movies. But I mean curiosity did kill the cat, luckily it had satisfaction to bring it back and it also had nine lives. But also, I'm not a cat. Decisions, decisions. A window must be open in the room for the next thing I know that as soon as I place my foot to bring me in align with the door; A particularly strong gust of wind blows causing the door to swing open with all its might and head right towards me. I let out a low groan as the door slams into me due to me not moving fast enough. My nose throbs painfully and I can feel a warm liquid trickling down my nose. That in turn makes me let out a–not so discreet– sneeze causing all the noises to stop and a chilling silence to replace it. Fast footsteps make their way towards the door and I quickly take a step back but freeze as Damien comes into view, his eyes immediately landing on mine. This can't be good.
