Murphy was initially planning to tell her but he didn't expect she would want to hear it too. He thought she had no interest in all these.

“First things first. Have some tea to help calm your nerves. You've been shaking like a lead out of fright since we left your house,” he commented.

Amelia didn't notice she was that scared until he mentioned it. She stared around the house, as if something would jump out of the darkness and into the room.

“Relax. You're safe here,” Murphy assured her when he noticed how tense she was.

In few minutes, he was handing her a cup of tea with a tray of cookies. “I guessed you might have not eaten,”

Amelia nodded and smiled. Her shred of courage breaking to shreds. She ate in silence as Murphy watched her. He didn't want to make her hate him more than she did. He knew it wasn't the right time to bring up their failed relationship. She had not believed him when he told her he wasn't the shadow man. He knew it would be hard to make her come back to him. Besides, her life was in danger. Who in their right senses would think of love when they might die the next minute.

“How are you feeling now?” he asked, concern evident in his voice.

“Well, I'm alive,” she replied, trying to sound funny.

Murphy sighed. He could see fear and relief in her eyes. He knew Amelia was just pretending to be strong. He didn't want her to go through such. He would do anything to keep her safe till the shadow is found.

“You're not the shadow right?” she asked.

Murphy found himself drawn to her innocence at that point.

“I am not,” he simply replied. Although there were many answers he could have given her at that point. Like if he was the shadow, why would he save her when he should be all about killing her? Shouldn't she believe he wasn't the shadow since they have been dating for long? Why was she so clueless? Why would he bring her to his house if he wanted to eliminate her? He would have just ended her life once and for all when he had the chance. She was so clueless.

He watched Amelia gubble up the cookies. “Should I get more?”

“No,” she declined, pushing the plate aside.

Murphy knew she wanted to talk about the shadow. He knew she was exhausted and needed rest.

“I would prefer you go to bed. We'll talk about everything you want to talk about tomorrow. I promise,” he said

Amelia knew she was pushing past her body limits. She needed to sleep. She follows Murphy up to the guest room.

“Make yourself comfortable. They are some female things you'll need. I don't think there's anything you'd need that isn't in there. But you can call ok me if you need anything else,” he said, smiling.

Amelia stared at him confused. “Female things?” she asked.

“Yeah. You know, I thought I could invite you here immediately I moved in. You know, before all these,” he began

Amelia simply nodded and closed the door.

“Goodnight Murphy,” she said

“Have a nice night,” he replied.

Murphy enters the Sitting room and slumped on the chair. It had been one hell of a day. He raised up his sleeves to tend to his wounds when he heard his system.

Next task

Find out more about Mr. Sam. Go to his house and steal the photocopy of the black file on his vault.

Points to earn +50

Current point 170

Failure to complete this task would result in reduction of 50 points.

Murphy sighed. How was he supposed to get into Mr. Sam's house. Of all the places his system could give him, it was Mr. Sam's place. Mr. Sam was obviously looking for him. How could he get past his security? It was like walking into the lion's den. He knew it was an impossible task and he had to do it. He couldn't imagine how to do it.

“How many days do I have to complete this task?” he asked his system.

One week.

He had one week to strategize a plan on how to get past Mr. Sam's security at the gate without being recognized. He had to get past the security systems all over the house. He also had to disable all the CCTV cameras. He had to enter his office, which had layers of security. Mr. Sam treated his office like heaven. It would be impossible for someone to enter. The he would have to open a password locked vault, retrieve the file and start another journey on getting out of there.

Very nice. Just freaking nice.

Murphy felt his head about to explode. He couldn't believe his system would goce him such a task. He wasn't even strong. His powers were limited and it wasn't like he could do much with it. He wondered what was in the file that was worth risking his life for.

If he is caught, apart from decreasing his points, it would mean death for him. As far as he knew, Mr. Sam and Jeremy would probably be on the lookout for him. They would have searched everywhere for him. And just imagine. His system just sent him to a death mission. He was going into the house of the guy who would possibly kill him. The guy who would probably tell Zedd to come, once he has captured him.

“What is in the file that would make yoy assign me in such a mission,” he asked.

IT'S CONFIDENTIAL

That was the only response he got from his system.

Murphy felt sleep clear from his eyes. His mind was already off Amelia.

“Then what do I do with the file when I get it?” he asked again, although he was doubtful on ever completing the task.

I WOULD TELL YOU THE NEXT STEP AFTER YOU BRING IN THE FILE.

Murphy nodded. What was he expecting? The system had said the file was confidential. Why would it tell him what was inside?

He walked over to the wine cellar to get a glass of wine. He needed something to calm him down. He was angry. He was angry at his system for sending him on this dangerous and risky mission. He would probably get caught, worse still, be eliminated. He didn't care about dying. But if they get their hands on him, then Amelia would definitely be an easy target. They would definitely find her. That was why he needed to be safe for the both of them.

Amelia had promised not to use her phone while in here. Her cell was left in her apartment. Her line would be traced if she had brought it along, making it a waste of him hiding bevause they would come looking for him. He would buy her another cell phone. The one that wouldn't be tracked.

“Would I get protection from you?” he asked his system again.

YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN
