Chapter 49 49: All shades Of Wrong

Chapter 49 49: All shades Of Wrong
Baby stands in front of his door, facing his quiet, lonely room. He tried to ignore it but the stinging realization of his jealousy was choking him.

He squeezed his eyes shut, blocking out the image of whoever that was kissing Saint.

The scene out there just highlighted the fundamental reversal of Baby's reality. He spent the evening thinking he was the one in control by pushing Saint away, only to find that being "free" of Saint's attention hurts more than the attention itself.

This marked the first time Baby Danvers wasn't the one holding all the cards.

"Fuck," he whispered, stepping away to glare at the door.

'What were they doing now? Still kissing? Fucking?' He balled his fists tightly, his brows creasing.

'Whatever...' He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply.

It was none of his business who Saint kissed or had sex with, likewise as it wasn't Saint's business who Baby slept with.

He turned away and walked into the bathroom, harshly discarded his clothes, and stepped under the cold shower.

He needed something to make him numb to the pain that was currently seizing his heart. It felt like his time by the river was for nothing because all those feelings he had run away from were back, and stronger than they were.

He had been the one to push Saint away, but it felt like he was the one who got brutally dumped after so many years of a relationship.

For the first time, Baby felt like he'd lost something, something he never even had.

"It's better this way," he murmured.

The pain was a harsh reminder that whatever was building between his fellow man and himself was taboo and should never have happened. He was glad the girl showed up, he was glad to have rejected Saint's silly approach, he was glad they could get back to rivals who could barely stand each other.

After spending close to an hour in the shower, Baby walked out naked, falling face-first on his bed.

He didn't bother to wear clothes, sleeping naked always brought him some semblance of comfort.

He was almost asleep when his tummy rumbled so loudly.

"Oh, no," he groaned.

He didn't want to go out there, he didn't want to find out what Saint and his dumb girlfriend were up to.

But his tummy growled again, agitating to be fed.

With a sigh, he rolled out of bed and walked over to his wardrobe. Sliding a pair of pj's up his waist, he walked toward his door, masking his face with the usual Baby. Danvers arrogant look.

He didn't wait for second thoughts, just pulled open the door and walked into the living room.

The first thing his eyes landed on was Saint, lying on the sofa with his arm over his eyes.

Baby frowned.

'Where was his girlfriend?' He wondered.

He looked away from the sleeping man and continued toward the kitchen.

Behind Baby, Saint's arm lowered from his eyes and watched him until he disappeared into the kitchen.

He clenched his jaws and returned to his position, forcing sleep to come.

He was bitter and angry, but not at anyone but himself.

He hated himself for getting distracted, for allowing himself live for himself even if it were just a few moments.

Kora's presence was a harsh slap back into reality, and he owed Baby a 'thank you' for destroying everything between them. It would have been a disaster.

'What was I even thinking?' He thought with a frown.

Well, everything was over now, and he was never repeating such mistakes.

He inhaled deeply but ended up coughing profusely when the harsh smell of burnt egg assaulted his nostrils.

He sprang up from the sofa and darted into the smoky kitchen, hoping Baby hadn't passed out in there.

Just in front of the stove, Baby was frantically using rag cloths to wave smoke towards the range hood, hoping the smoke didn't get out to the people in the house.

His scrambled eggs mission was an obvious failure, all he just wanted was to eat, but he guessed even that was against him tonight.

"What are you doing?" Saint's voice paused Baby's movement.

Baby frowned, stepping away from the stove. Turns out the smoke did reach the people in the house.

However, he wasn't about to speak to Saint, it was his time to go back to his room... hungry.

Saint saw Baby preparing to walk away and felt a sense of rage overtake him, "I'm asking you," he reached out and grabbed Baby's hand, forcing him to stay.

Baby felt his skin crawl, having Sajnt touch him after kissing someone else right in front of him was like rubbing salt to injury.

'Was he trying to mock me?' He frowned.

Slowly, he lifted his face to Saint, his eyes not hiding his fury.

"Let go –"

"Are you planning to burn the house down?" Sajnt asked, ignoring the hatred in Baby's eyes.

Baby chuckled, "Let go." He repeated, his tone lowering to a dangerous promise.

Saint frowned, "You–shit!" His grip automatically tightened on Baby's hand as his head reeled back from the forceful collision of Baby's forehead to his lips.

"I warned you," Baby muttered and walked out ofnthe kitchen.

"Fucking demon," Saint growled and strode after Baby, ready to make him pay for what he's done.

But as he walked into the living room, helis vedroom door opened and Kora hurried out, covering her nose.

"Oh my God, are you guys okay?" She asked Baby, whobwas stabfing next to the table, ignoring her.

Her eyes flew to Saibt and she widened them in panic, "Baby, your lips, what happened?" She ran over to Saint and led him to sit on the Sofa.

Baby almost rolled his eyes at what Kora called Saint.

He was used to hearing people using his name on their loved ones, but hearing it used on Saint by another person that wasn't him, it felt all shades of wrong.

"I'm fine, Kora. Its just a little accident," Saint replied, wiping the blood with his sleeve, his eyes pinned on Baby.

"Oh, please don't get me worried like this," Kora lowered herself beside Saint, hugging his arm.

"You never told me you had a friend over –"

"We're not friends. He's staying in my house for a short period," Baby cut in, unable to stay quiet and watch the couple discuss lies about him.
