Chapter 90 Move out
Daxton
“Zita has returned to London and moved back into the apartment she once shared with Quinn Parker. She’s now working at a McDonald’s restaurant in central London, while Quinn continues to support her financially,”
I wasn’t the type to mock people in their lowest but I couldn’t help the laughter that left my mouth. Actions had consequences and this was proof of how far I was willing to go to ruin anyone who dared come after my woman.
After the whole wedding fiasco, Zita had completely lost the public’s support, and that had taken a huge toll on her father’s company. Kian’s parents had filed a lawsuit against Zita’s parents and Zita herself for deceit, manipulation, and emotional damages—demanding one million dollars in compensation.
And Zita, two million.
While her parents could provide that easily, Zita couldn’t. Her picture was taken down from the company’s family wall, erased after her dad held a funeral for her while she was still alive.
Verena believed that was too extreme and was starting to feel sympathetic towards Zita—the same woman who wouldn’t hesitate to kill her if she had the chance. Sometimes Verena could be quite unbelievable. She was just too soft for this cruel world.
Zita had her inheritance revoked, accounts closed, trust funds dissolved, and name erased from every legal document binding her to her family.
So, she was forced to declare bankruptcy and had crawled back into her hole in London. Returning as an OnlyFans model seemed nearly impossible. Everyone hated her now.
“I’m sure she will never be able to return here,”
I smirked. “Return? She’s drowning in debt and can’t even afford a flight ticket,”
Josh laughed, my phone vibrating on the desk and my face hardened on seeing who the caller was. Neil.
God, he’s been blowing my phone up since Kian’s team released the statement—how he was stepping down as the CEO temporarily, taking a break from the world, and wouldn't be returning for a long time.
Jana was worried that he would commit suicide and never return to her. How his parents were never able to see through his manipulation was quite jarring.
I mean, the same Kian they were losing sleep on was currently in Thailand having the best fun of his life, hooking up with different women. On the very morning of his wedding, he had boarded a plane to Thailand.
I couldn’t get a moment of peace from my brother and his wife. Kian goes missing and who do they call first? Me. As if I were the one holding him hostage or some sort of savior who would swoop in and stop him from jumping down a cliff.
Kian would never kill himself. He was far too cowardly to nurture such thoughts.
I sucked between my teeth, turning off my phone as I flicked my gaze back to Josh. “So…”
His phone buzzed on the desk as he reached for it, only for his eyes to jerk back on mine. “Ms. Jana,”
I rolled my eyes. “Block her. If Neil calls, block his contact too,”
A knock sounded on the door and before I could say Jack, Verena had already poked her head inside, a grin splitting her face. “Mind, if I come in?”
My heart pounded in excitement, all the irritation I felt evaporating.
“Do you also mind if I come in, Josh?” She darted her eyes to him.
Josh acknowledged her with a nod, rising to his feet. “I was about to leave. I will see you later, sir,”
I hmmphed, not taking my eyes off Verena until she walked over to me, leaned forward, and kissed me softly.
“Done shopping already?” I breathed against her mouth.
She straightened, perched on the table, her skirt riding up to reveal her thigh. “Yes. I got the Louboutins. Thank you, Daxton…”
“You are welcome, princess,”
Slowly, the smile on her face faded as she turned her eyes to me. “Do you perhaps know why Neil wants to meet me? He texted while I was shopping. He said he had something important to discuss with me,”
Anger slowly seeped through my veins, curling around my chest. When does this end? I knew what he wanted to do—make Verena call Kian since he wasn’t answering either of their calls.
This whole phone call thing ends now. I reached for my phone, turned it on, and scrolled through pictures of Kian clubbing, him on a boat cruise surrounded by women in bikinis.
At first, my fingers hovered around the most damning picture of him before I decided to just forward the whole thing to Neil and Jana.
I texted. “Pleased? Bother Verena with Kian’s issues and kiss the idea of me investing goodbye.”
I drew in a breath, fixing my eyes back to Verena who blinked at me. “I said something about Neil,”
“You don’t have to meet him. I’ve already taken care of everything. He won’t bother you again,”
“Sure?” She tilted her head.
“Hundred percent,”
Her face broke into a smile again, her expression shifting as she opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. “Daxton…” She finally said.
“Yes,”
Verena scratched the back of her head and a weird feeling unfurled in my chest. “Hmmm, I have been thinking about this for a while. Since Kian released that statement about not returning for a long time. So I thought—” Her words trailed.
Those brown eyes held mine before she blurted the rest of her words. “—I could get my own apartment since Kian was the reason I moved out in the first place,”
My heart dropped into the hollow of my stomach like a rock, face contorting into a frown.
“I will rent a house in a high-end neighborhood. Not like the previous one and…”
I cut in, the tightness in my chest worsening. “That isn’t the issue Verena. What makes you believe that Kian wouldn’t be back?”
“In a long time,” she corrected.
“Same thing, Verena. Are you believing the bullshit crafted by his team just to gain public sympathy?”
“No, I don’t but even if he returns, it will be in the next two or three years,”
I almost laughed at the innocence. “Really?”
The idea of Verena moving out didn't sit right with me. The plan from the get-go had always been for her to live with me and her bringing this up made it feel like my heart was being ripped out.
I held the full weight of her gaze. “I understand the importance of having your own space—” No, I didn’t understand. I didn't want to. “—and you were right. You only moved in fully with me because Kian broke into your house,”
She nodded.
“And now, you believe that Kian won’t return for a long time, right?” I traced my finger up her thigh, feeling her breath catch. “But, you’ve got it all wrong. I promise Kian will be back before Christmas and this time, with no restraint since he isn't bound to Zita anymore,”
“So no, you can't move out. I can only protect you when you are next to me, not when you are far away from me.”
