Chapter 41 Piece Of Shit

Chapter 41 Piece Of Shit
 Verena
Different thoughts on how to kill Kian stormed my mind. But would I risk my ass sitting in jail for a piece of shit like Kian? No. How I never realized how manic he was left me reeling. It was either that he was good at hiding that side of him or he was multifaceted.
As I climbed up the stairs, my hands ripped through my hair. Maybe I should report him to his parents. But, those two would never believe me. To them, Kian was an Angel who could do no wrong.
I should call the cops on him. That should work.
 And Daxton—
I stilled, sucking in a deep breath as confusion nudged at the corners of my heart. It’s been two hours since I sent that picture of what his nephew did and there has been no response from him.
Did he consider me a burden? Or did he believe that I was doing too much by involving him in my issues with Kian?
 “I don’t know” I groaned and honestly, I didn’t like how I felt.
I would never forgive Kian for this mess. He was the reason I cleaned nonstop and I didn't even want to get started on the wall that he ruined with that graffiti of a ketchup.
Just thinking about the shit he wrote made my head throb with a dull ache.
I heaved an exasperated sigh, punching the code to my house. A clicking sound followed as the door opened and I couldn’t help but wonder how that bastard discovered the freaking password to my house.
I huffed, feeling my insides churn. “Nice try, Kian,” I flicked the lights on only for my heart to almost leap out of my throat as my hand flew to my chest.
 What the hell!
Glittering silver speckled blue eyes met mine as he casually leaned against the kitchen counter, his phone sitting idly in his hand. Daxton.
“How did you get in?” A wave of relief flooded through me as my hand dropped from my chest.
How people were able to depict my passcode now got on my nerves. Maybe I wasn’t as smart as I thought. First, it was Kian. And now Daxton.
“Through the door” He answered, a smile tilting his mouth upward.
“I know. Like…” I ran a hand through my hair frustratedly. “How did you possibly get the code to my house? I’d put in so much work into coming up with a very perfect password and the fact that it is easily accessible doesn’t sit right with me” I kicked off my shoes, slipping into flip-flops before stepping into the house fully.
 “5,4,3,2,1 isn’t a lot of work Vere—“
My gaze snapped to him and he clamped his mouth shut. “I don’t want to talk to you…” I tried to walk past him until he snatched me by the wrist before I could.
The concern in his eyes shattered the defiance that was starting to slip through my face. “What is the matter, Verena?” A hand slipped above my waist.
Not only did that contact make my spine stiffen but it stole my breath away.
I sucked in a deep breath. “You didn't answer my text for two hours. I was starting to think…” I held my breath. “Thoughts” I blurted.
His eyes pierced deep into mine, his hand still clamped around my wrist. “What thoughts?”
I darted my eyes away, trying to string the words together. “Never mind. Doesn't make any sense. I should have called the cops…”
“Verena,” His voice was so soft that it sent my head spinning. “Were you worried?”
I hated that I had to do this but I nodded. “And scared—”
Daxton drew me closer to him until my head pressed softly against his chest. I could still feel the ghost of his fingers on my wrist as they now tangled through my hair.
“I am here now, Verena. You don't have to be scared anymore”
At first, I was shocked by the fact that Kian broke into my house. Then followed by numbness and anger. In fact, I had gone through all five stages of grief just tonight but things started to get weird when that fear kicked in.
What if Kian came back and met me at home? I had watched too many true-crime documentaries not to know how situations like this always ended for the victims and their obsessive exes.
It always ended in sexual assault, death, or both.
But I couldn't just box Kian into that ‘obsessive ex’ narrative because as long as I remembered, Kian wasn't the ‘crazy about me’ type. After two years of our marriage, he stopped caring.
So, everything he did made no sense to me. The fear that he was doing all of this because of the money that I took from our drained account still lingered in my mind.
That had to be the only explanation for this madness.
I wrapped my hands around Daxton, letting his woodsy scent fill my system. “What if he comes back?”
The chilling laugh that left Daxton’s mouth sent a shiver rolling down my spine. “He won't be back. At least, not here”
How could he be so sure?
Confusion made a full swirl in me as I pulled back, searching through his eyes. “What do you mean”
He averted his gaze from him, his eyes sweeping around the house before they settled back on me. “I have taken care of Kian and as for this house. This is the last night…”
I squinted my eyes, cutting in. “Last night for what?”
 “That you stay here,”
Daxton held the full weight of my gaze. “You, Nana, and Snowball are moving to my house—”
“But…” Words of protest almost sputtered from my mouth but he held a finger to my mouth, shutting me up completely.
“I am not asking for your opinion, Verena. There is no way I would allow you to stay here after what happened tonight,” Something in his tone shifted.
“You either come with me like the good girl you are or I will drag you out of here. So, pick one,”
I was starting to get used to Daxton’s casual display of dominance and as much as I wanted to toy with him, tease him that I would rather get dragged out of here, exhaustion and stress got the better of me.
“I would come willingly,” I said out of defeat.
“Good. I would send someone over to pick up your things tomorrow.”
