Chapter 17 What She Wants

Chapter 17 What She Wants
  Daxton
Satisfaction curled in my stomach on seeing the way her eyes brightened like the galaxies made her eyes their abode. It was the same ethereal light that glowed in those sparkling eyes when she held the wristwatch.
I knew she wanted it and whatever Miss Kitty ears want, she gets it.
I watched as those luscious lips parted, eyes widening in surprise as she glanced back and forth at the wristwatch that dangled on her fingers and my face. “Why are you giving me this—” Her voice was barely a whisper.
I took a step forward, bent slightly until I was eye-level with her, and then flicked her on the nose gently. “Owww—”
“Because you are a bad liar, Verena. I know when you want something and lying to me would make me want to get you all the things in the world. I think you should lie to me, as long as it means that I get to spoil you”
She let out a soft chuckle and that smile curve on her pretty face made me feel warm. I loved seeing her smile, seeing her happy this way and I would make sure she remained happy for the rest of her life.
My chest had tightened, seeing the glint of sadness in her eyes as she returned the wristwatch to the case. I didn't know which drove me crazy the most— the fact that she found it hard to tell me whenever she wanted something or the brief sadness in her eyes.
I couldn't blame her though. She was just starting to get to know me and I wouldn’t want to overwhelm…but the fact that she wouldn't even spend a dime from the card given to her also struck me.
Verena would come out of her shell, gradually. I would make sure of that.
“Come here,” I cupped her cheeks, pressing a kiss to her forehead as the floral scent of shampoo filled my nose.
“Thank you—” She muttered, pulling black as she stared into my eyes while shades of pink dotted on her cheeks. “You made my night,” She said as I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
My eyes moved back to her apartment's window and again I repeated. “Let me come up there”
She stared at me stunned, in disbelief as she shook her head. “No, no. My house is a little untidy right now and I doubt that the pet sitter cleaned it, I mean she is just a teenage girl down the street. And, my home is like a safe abode for her from all the noise in her house”
I bobbed my head to her words. “Still, let me come up there”
Her eyes narrowed on me. “Aren't you a little persistent? Give me a reason why I should let you in,”
The thing was my heart ached, knowing that she wouldn't be with me for two days. Despite the short period that we have stayed together, her presence could be felt everywhere in my home, and having to stay away from her for forty-eight hours felt like torture. And if there was another word for torture, that was enough to describe how I felt right now.
I dreaded the emptiness that would welcome me when I returned home without her and that was the reason I made the most of today. Yet, I wanted to stay with her.
Maybe, I shouldn't have put the ‘five days a week’ clause in the contract. I should have tied her to my bed!
“Because I would love to meet your pets—”
Her eyes lit up again, the brightest that I have ever seen and before I knew it, she took me aback when she looped a hand into my arm. “Like you really want to see my pets? This is the best thing that I have ever heard”
According to her, she loved animals a lot and while she was young, she would bring in strays, reptiles, and bugs— much to her parents’ displeasure. She also mentioned how she had taken a stray into the house once, only for Kian to put the cat up for adoption the moment he met it at home.
“I still hate him for that. He waited until I went for an event before he got rid of it—” She hissed, tapping the code to her house and my anger boiled towards Kian for what he had done.
I couldn't imagine how she must have felt then. My nephew was just too immature and didn't deserve her at all.
A sound followed as the door opened. She held out the door for me while I stepped into the cozy almost-dark place as the lights that dotted the neighboring houses reflected in the room.
The door closed shut as Verena flicked on the light while I swept my eyes around the small space. Two round sofas, a lampstand standing next to the glass window that overlooked the driveway.
  Her house was warm.
I turned to look at Verena who slid her shoes off her feet, walking past me as she called “Nana and Snowball” and that was the moment my eyes fell on the bunny's playpen.
Anticipation nudged at the corner of my heart as I walked towards her, only for her to turn to me while rubbing a hand on her forehead. “I think Reesha took them to her house. She must have forgotten that I would be coming home…” Her brows tugged with a small frown. “Anyway, welcome to my home”
  “I am a little bit disappointed…”
She pursed her lips slightly. “I knew that you would find my house ugly and—”
Confusion set in my eyes as I cut in. “No, I am disappointed because I didn't meet your bunnies”
She exhaled sharply, a smile pulling at the corners of her mouth. “I thought you hated it…” She sauntered to me, the light from the chandelier dancing in her eyes.
Verena sighed between smiles. “What do I offer you? I doubt that I have anything filling at home except for wine, a box of cereal, and frozen cake. We should order takeout—”
I shook my head, pulling her close to me as I tipped my nose against hers. “I want you instead”
She chuckled against my mouth, the warmth of her breath seeping into my heart as she looped her hands around my neck and that was the cue I needed. In a matter of seconds, our lips were locked in a fiery kiss, her legs wrapped around my waist as her back was pressed against the glass window.
My dick hardened with the rush of blood, straining against her stomach as her fingers moved to unbutton my shirt when the sound of something crashing startled us both.
Car alarms blared in the quiet neighborhood, Verena’s eyes widening in shock as I dropped her. “What the heck was that?” She said while my eyes were fixed on my car whose front light fluctuated.
  My car!
We both rushed downstairs to my car and the moment we got there, Verena gasped at the huge spiderweb of cracks on the window as her hands flew over her mouth. Before she could step forward, my hands shot out to stop her. She was just in flip-flops and there were shards of glass on the ground and I was not about to let her walk over them.
The security guard rushed to meet us and his eyes squeezed shut while Verena bombarded him with so many questions. “What the heck happened here? Who hurled something at his car’s window? Where were you? God, I can't believe this is happening right now”
The security guard heaved an exasperated sigh. “I am sure that it is those mischievous children who always cause mayhem in the neighborhood on their scooters. I just chased some away and…”
Verena scoffed. “Children? I need the contact address of the parents of those little rascals. Check the cameras please, I need to know who did this!” She pointed to my car.
He sighed again. “The camera here is broken. I’m sorry”
Verena ran a hand through her hair while my eyes returned to the crack in my car’s window. This wasn't the handiwork of children on scooters.
With such impact, this was done by someone who slammed their fist on my car out of rage.
