Chapter 81 I don't want Dylan to take you Home.
KIMBERLY.
"Homework?"I laughed in disbelief. How tenacious she could be to fetch the deepest secrets of my life. "This is just you being a clingy bitch who–"
"Keep running that shitty mouth of yours and watch me go straight to Rafael and–"
"You dare not."I threatened, seething.
Her eyes narrowed more, bearing defiance."Okay."She huffed sarcastically and laughed like a hysterical idiot.
My stomach twisted hard, almost causing me to tumble. Because I knew it would kill me if Rafael finds out about her.
I've always assumed she was dead, that Frederick killed her and buried my memories with her alongside, but when I talked about her with Jimmy, I knew deep down in my heart that she was probably not dead, and she would show her face someday.
And it seemed that the day was now closer than I thought.
"What do you really want?"I sighed warily as my bones wracked in my body.
"Nothing."She rolled her eyes and tipped her head against the wall.
"What?"
Blaire shrugged nonchalantly."I know Rafael would never come back to me."
"Then why are you doing this?" I asked, still confused.
"Like I said, nothing. I just hate the thought of you having him to your–"
"Having him?"I echoed her words as heat climbed up my chest."He's not a damned commodity that can be owned by someone."
"Look at you looking out for him."She laughed sardonically, shaking her head."You're so pathetic, Kim. So damn pathetic."
A hard lump got stuck in my throat and I swallowed nothing as she said those words because how could she voice out my self-deprecating thoughts so accurately?
"You can have fun toying with my life with her."I scoffed, walking out of the bathroom, my legs felt so heavy and almost immobile as I trudged through the door.
I slowly sunk to my knees the moment I was out, the adrenaline surging through my body earlier crashed around me.
Mom. Mom. Mom.
She was alive. And well. Yet, she didn't bother to look for me while I was stuck with Frederick. She watched me waste the best years of my life slaving away and she didn't do anything.
God. It would have been better if I didn't learn about this. She should have stayed dead. Unmemorable in my brain.
I clasped my hands over my trembling mouth and shuddered hard. "I hate this."I sobbed, dropping my head in between my lap.
I didn't know how long I cried, but when I raised my head, outside was already dark.
I sniffled and cleaned up my face clumsily and tried getting up but my hand landed on another which wasn't mine.
"Oh,God!" I jolted, almost falling hard but he held me up quickly."Rafael?"
He pressed his lips together and helped me up to my feet, he dusted his pants and pushed his hair back.
"You're okay now?"He asked, staring at me with a frown on his face, but I felt like it wasn't for me.
Maybe the fact that I was crying. Or I didn't go with him when he went to Baxter like I promised.
"When did you get here?"I stuttered, cleaning my face again.
My cold fingers pressed against my hot face and I almost flinched at my own touch.
"One hour ago."He closed one of his eyes like he was trying to remember.
"What are you doing?" I asked again, wrapping my sweaty fingers together.
"Staying."He said simply and easily as well.
My breath hitched as I let myself soak into the comfort the only word he said gave me.
"Uhmmm–"I fumbled with my words and closed my eyes for a moment. I pressed my fingers against my eyeballs and took a deep breath.
"Kim–"Rafael called, stepping closer to me.
I stepped backwards immediately and shook my head."I'm fine, I just need to–"
"I can wait for you in the lobby if that's what you need."He offered, pointing his thumb behind him.
"No."I said quickly, bringing my hands down my face, and this time, I didn't suppress the tears. I let it all out and sobbed again because it was here when I told him we should dump whatever it was that we built.
It's not even up to four hours and I'm already crumbling in his presence. Shit.
"Thank you."I bobbed my head and held onto the wall from behind.
"You're welcome."Rafael muttered, His eyes held mine, searching but didn't say a word. I didn't either, because I didn't know what to say so I let silence take charge of the unspoken words.
"We should go, I probably kept you waiting."I said quickly, brushing past him but he held me back by my arm.
"I would have loved to but Baxter is starting his therapy sessions tonight."
"Oh."I mumbled, assimilating his words slowly.
"Do you want Dylan to take you home, I can–"
"Do you want Dylan to take me home?"I cut in, gazing at Rafael keenly. He looked like he could make use of company even if it doesn't help, but considering how we parted earlier, I get why he's holding himself back.
The atmosphere went silent for a moment before Rafael shook his head."No, Kim. I don't want Dylan to take you home."
