Chapter 29 WHAT CHANGED BETWEEN US?
29.
~KIMBERLY~
His lips wafts further into mine, engulfing every inch of mouth possessively, we fit each other so well, as if he was made for me and I'm made for him which scared me but I didn't pull back.
My wants precedes this aching throb of ache in my chest.
A measly criminal like me doesn't deserve this, but anything to make this marriage work, anything to not make Rafael fall out of interest in me, anything to not make Rita Williams decide not to buy the company.
"Rafael." I mumble into the kiss, every air in me snuffed out by his dominating mouth.
"Rita Williams is at the door, watching us." He grunts out, his voice as husky as ever, I feel the slight touch of his dick against my waist.
I try turning back to see if she's still watching but Rafael drags me back by my neck, tugging me closer to him.
"Don't let her see us."He warns softly, his soft breath hits my face, I soak myself in his arms, letting my greedy self bask in his masculine scent and wonder how someone can feel this good.
With that, he pulls away from me and urges me to sit on the chair in front of him.
I bring my face down, not wanting him to see my flushed face, or the disappointment written on me when he pulled away.
"Rita!" Rafael called, opening the door for her, a practiced fake smile latches on his expression. He's definitely not happy to see her but he can't shoo her away from coming over to discuss business.
Standing up, I whirl in their direction and smile gracefully at Rita.
She's dressed in a beige flowing gown, accentuating her wrinkled skin, her hair rolled into a tight neat bun, she looks quite leaner compared to the last time we saw each other which was almost two months ago.
"Hey, love birds. How are you all doing?" She grins in a knowing smile pulling me into a hug first before turning back to Rafael, I almost forgot that this woman already knows that the marriage is fake so there's no need to pretend in front of her but Rafael doesn't know that she knows.
"We're good, and thanks for hosting us the last time." I answer, ushering her in a seat.
After we're both seated, Wendy walked in with three cup of coffee and places it in front of us, she winked at me discreetly before walking out.
"You're welcome, I was more than glad to do that, I know you will make a great host as a wife considering the fact that your husband is a high end business mogul." She compliments.
I turn to Rafael whose eyes are on me nervously before offering her a grateful look.
Rita's face scrunches up a bit and scans our faces in confusion.
"Wait, you didn't tell her about the dinner parties you've been putting off?" She asks, referring to Rafael.
Gazing at him closely, I watch his eyes twitches a bit, an uncomfortable expression latches on Rafael's face and he swats his head away from me back to Rita.
"My wife has been quite unavailable for that right now, we will cross that bridge when we get there." Rafael answered.
Heat flushes across my chest immediately, his words would definitely make every other woman swoon but not me, my insecure self is already sabotaging every good intentions he probably has and it sickens me.
"But we are at the bridge right now, and you're finding it hard to cross." Rita throws back at Rafael in a hard tone and he sighs tiredly.
"Why are you here, Rita?" Rafael grumbles, throwing the cubic box in his hands on the table, his jaw clenches.
"Rafael." I scold, rubbing my hand down on his knees to prevent this from escalating.
We shouldn't annoy her.
"I'm sorry, Rita. I promise to invite you once I'm able to come up with something."
"Good, just make sure it doesn't contradict mine." She winks, sliding an invitation card on the smooth table across to me.
Rafael curses in a low tone beside me and I smoothens my hand more on his knees. I don't want him to make this situation worse than it is.
"Oh." I mumble, picking it up, it's an invitation for dinner at her main residential house."We will come, thank you so much for honoring us with this, I'm grateful."
Her face lights up in a warm smile and she nods profusely."Sure, see you there." She claps and pick up her bag and stride out of the room.
I breathe a sigh of relief the moment the door is shut close.
"That was close."
"I don't like you cowering to Rita like she's some important person." Rafael complains in a tight voice, standing up to his feet, right away from my grasp as if I make his skin crawl. He was hoisting me to himself a few minutes ago and now, he can't stand me?
Well, our needed audience is gone so there's no need to pretend.
"Well, you married me because of her, sorry if I was too busy ass licking her while you were grumbling like a kid denied of a cookie." I throw back at him defiantly, my words more harsh than I'd planned to.
"How the fuck were you supposed to plan for a dinner when you were busy treating your ribs? Or making plans ahead of the party? Or your school? Why can't you see that I'm trying to make everything easier for you?"
"But it is at the detriment of your own business! I lived with Frederick, Rafael. And I knew how much business dinners are important to him, he always smiles after every event."
"I'm not my father." He growls, angling towards me, his frown deepens at each step but surprisingly,I'm not scared of him.
As if I knew he won't hurt me or do anything to make me break down but fuck, my insides are already trashing.
I squint my eyes, because truly, Rafael isn't anything like his father, he's not a self absorbed piece of shit who thinks that the world revolves around him only.
Even when he doesn't talk to me and treats me like I don't exist, he still stock up the fridge with cooked food to make sure I don't stress myself during my recuperation, he was patient with me when I was busy mixing clusterfuck colors of paint, he was sitting right beside of me.
"You shouldn't give up your dinners because of me, Rafael, it would break me, and I'm sorry for..."
"Don't apologize for what you're not guilty of, fuck!" He rasps, walking away from me.
I swallow nothing and drop my head."I ruined your expensive car, I broke my ribs and I made you pay my hospital bills, I'm..."
"Don't piss me off, Kimberly Sloane." He points his fingers at me, his eyes flashing with fury.
"Rafael..."
"I don't care enough about selling off that company anymore and I'm not fucking apologetic about it, I'd rather give it up than watch someone get uncomfortable because of the choices I made."
Silence precedes his words, both of us lost for words, his hard words clips me hard and makes my breath waver.
"What changed?" I manage to ask, curiosity and a tad desperation laces my tone.
His gaze drops to mine closely this time around and he doesn't shy away, I watch his shoulder buckles and lips quiver."I don't fucking know, Kimberly."
