Chapter 57 Chapter 57

Chapter 57 Chapter 57

Claudia felt so torn at the moment.

She wanted to answer all the questions thrown her way—the woman looked frightened out of her mind—but she also couldn’t sight of Ajax.

For some reason, she felt utterly uncomfortable after seeing his reaction upstairs. The way he almost broke that door…

“We don’t have time for this…” she said to the woman hurriedly. “I need to follow him.”

And then she pulled her arm from Sonia’s grasp and took off after the male who had just reached the main doors.

But just when Claudia turned her focus back on Ajax and rushed behind him, someone crashed into her.

Something fell.

Someone grunted.

“What the—” she heard someone yell. A woman, most probably. And not just any woman. The one who seemed to hold some sort of grudge against her. Who the fuck knew what her problem was?

“Are you fucking blind?” Hannah groaned with a frown, rubbing her upper arm before trying to push herself off the floor.

“Hannah…” Sonia Halest helped her get back on her feet. “Are you alright, sweetheart?”

“I’m…I’m fine!” Hannah tugged her arm from Sonia’s grasp—something Sonia found utterly odd—and lowered to her knees to pick up an office bag that had slipped through her grasp. “I have a meeting with a client.” Meeting no one’s eyes, Hannah almost sprinted for the main door.

Claudia sighed in her chest. Ajax was nowhere in her sight. “Shit!” She lost him. Ugh. This fucking blonde was good for nothing. She thought to herself.

“It’s alright,” Sonia Halest placed a hand on Claudia’s shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze. “I can track his phone and tell you where he’s heading if you want to know.”

“You can?” Claudia was dumbfounded.

“Yes,” Sonia said with a sad smile. “Let’s just say it was for his own good.”

Claudia didn’t even know if that was even legal—Neal would know—but she wasn’t about to question and ruin her chances of knowing the whereabouts of that furious man who seemed to be heading to burn this entire world down.

It took only a minute or two, but when Sonia Halest grabbed her phone from the table and opened the tracking app.

“He’s….” Sonia Halest frowned.

“What…what is it?” On edge, Claudia asked.

“Right outside…” Sonia looked up, confusion all over his face.

“What?” How was that possible? It had been a solid ten minutes since he had stormed out of that door. There was no way he was still lingering around. Not with how angry he seemed to be.

“He’s right outside,” Sonia Halest repeated. In case the young woman next to her failed to hear.

Claudia shook her head. Either the app was broken, or this was some really poor joke.

Whatever though, she had to go out and check for herself.

There was no point in waiting around and wasting time.

Most importantly, she didn’t want Ajax anywhere near her sister, in case that’s where he was heading.

Maybe she could call Neal and tell him to block his path. He was waiting for her right outside, after all.

Pulling the phone out of her pocket, Claudia darted for the door. She dialled for Neal while making her way down the steps on the porch.

Her feet came to a sudden standstill when she caught the view in front of her.

The cops were everywhere. Every-fucking-where.

There were police vans parked haphazardly in the driveway, blocking the way out for anyone.

But that much was expected after the cops showed up to arrest Michael Halest (the reason she still wasn’t aware).

The view that really stunned her to the bones was the sight of Ajax and another young man whom she supposed was his younger brother.

She hadn’t met him ever in her life, but who didn’t know a thing or two about the remarkable Halest family? It was like asking who Prince William or Harry, for that matter.

Not able to quell the curiosity bubbling inside, Claudia approached the scene, hoping to hear everything that was going on.

“Veronica Shirley, turn around and put your hands behind your back!” Officer Brandon said, pulling out the handcuffs.

Claudia frowned. She acutely remembered Ajax and Sonia Halest addressing that woman as Hannah, so why were the cops calling her Veronica? What the hell was even going on?

“Wait. No!” Hannah (slash Veronica) panicked. Tried to squirm when a lady officer forced her to turn around and clicked the cuffs around her wrist. “I can explain. Please. Ajax? At least hear me out. You can’t just…”

“You’re under arrest for impersonation and in the suspicion of being an accomplice to Michael Halest.” The lady officer read the rights. “ You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

“Please. Listen to me once. Vincent? At least you hear me out.”

“Just take this bitch out of my sight!” Vincent growled, and turned his head away. As if he looked at her any longer, he might just lose it.

“Thank you for your cooperation, Mr Halest.” Officer Brandon shook hands with both the brothers one by one. “I’ll contact you when we have the confession. Until then.”
