Chapter 99: Whispers of the Past
Elora was standing before her as she swung the door open.
“Good morning ma’am,” Lyra said sweetly.
“Morning, Lyra,” Elora replied. “What’s going on?”
“Can I come in?” She inquired. Elora stared at her for some seconds then stepped away from the way. Lyra entered while Elora closed the door carefully. “I’m so sorry for disturbing you early in the morning but how did the surprise go? I’ve been so busy since last night that I could not come and ask how the preparation went.”
“It went fine but I regret surrendering my body,” Elora answered back as she walked to the bed.
Lyra’s brows knitted. “I don’t think I understand what you mean. Did you reject yourself?”
“We did it, Lyra. I must admit that it felt good while it lasted.” Elora retorted as she sat on the bed, picking up her phone from her side.
“Did he say anything to you?…
“You should attend to the new bride in the house.” Elora cut in, raising her gaze to look at the confused Lyra. “I’m not sure if you’ve welcomed her yet.”
“New bride? In this house? How?”
Elora glared at her, studying her expression. “Are you kidding me?”
“I should be the one asking you that, ma’am. I was busy throughout last night… Is a new bride in this house truly?” Lyra questioned in a low tone.
“Yes.”
“What? How come?”
“You should ask your boss that.” Elora retorted and then turned her gaze back to the screen of her phone. “You should leave now. I want to be left alone.”
Lyra nodded reluctantly, her bright mood changing gradually. “Sure ma’am. Take your time.”
She left the room while Elora’s eyes remained glued to her screen.

“Have you recollected the place where you met her?” Nico asked curiously.
Lac's eyes were closed, her finger tapping his legs faintly. “I don’t,Nico. She’s someone you also know but we have forgotten.” He replied as he opened his eyes then handed the brown file Gianna had given to Nico. “What if she had made us forget about her…spiritually as Rowan said?”
Noc scoffed as he removed the picture from the file. “That’s untrue. I think Rowan was just trying to mess with our minds.”
“Why can't I remember her? This Ophelia?” Lac inquired as he sat up, his expression serious.
“Her face is really familiar,” Nico said to himself as he stared at her picture. The woman in the picture was in a white-colored car and the phone was taken unaware. She had a dark shade on and her face was covered with a dark scarf. Her shoulder-length hair peeps under the scarf.
“I will really be disappointed in myself if we can’t remember her.” Lac declared as he turned his gaze to the window.
“Are you sure we met this lady in Spain?” Nico inquired, his brows waggling.
Lac's eyes lit up and he took the picture from Nico swiftly. “You are a genius, Nico! I was thinking we met her here in Spain but we met her in Egypt!”
Nico widened his eyes in realization. “Nada? Isn’t she nada?”
Lac nodded his head in response.
Flashback…….
Lac sped down the dusty Cairo road, his eyes fixed on the car ahead of him. He rammed into goods in the way, determined to catch up.
The car before him took many turns, trying to outmaneuver Lac but Lac was aware. As lac gained on the car, he took a swift turn, his tires screeching in protest but the driver before him was also an expert in driving. He swerved out of Lac’s reach.
“Son of a b!tch!” Lac muttered under his breath as he slammed on the brakes, skidding to a stop just inches from onlookers before him.
Upset, he looked out of the window, attempting to speak but he became stunned as a woman clad in a sparkling costume adorned with beads and sequins.
The onlookers seemed scared as they saw Lac’s car almost ramming into them. The performer, dusting off her outfit came forward, her eyes gleaming with anger.
“Hey there. Can’t you see? Do you intend to send all of us to heaven before you halt?” She asked, her hands resting on her hips.
“I don’t have any time for this..
“Same here!” She turned to look at the instrumentalists instantly. “Please, continue playing the melodious music to our ears.”
They obeyed and the audience watched as she moved her body to the rhythm of the song and the onlookers looked mesmerized by her energetic performance.
Seeing that he had lost pursuit of the man he was chasing, he relaxed in his seat and then reached for his phone in his pocket. As he dialed a contact, he pressed his phone to his ear, his eyes glued on the dancing lady.
“Hello, Nico.”
“Hello, boss. We could not catch up with him.”Nico answered back from the other end.
“I missed him. He's gone. Inform Shukra to prepare our apartment for tonight. We will resume our search early tomorrow morning.” Lac commanded.
“Noted boss. We will head back to the apartment.” Nico answered back then Lac ended the call.
Lac, frustrated, dropped his phone on the seat beside him and then placed his hands on the steering wheel. He was stopped by the soft hand on his arm. Stunned, he turned his gaze to the intruder.
It was the performer.
She had finished dancing and the onlookers had dispersed except the instrumentalists.
“What?”
“You almost crashed into my performance, pay up.” She replied confidently, her grip on Lac’s arm getting firmer.
Lac did not say a word, he was too upset to give her a reply. Without any warning, he reached for two bundles of notes in his glove compartment and then threw them at her.
“There you go.” He said then reversed.
The lady, shocked, shifted away from his car and watched as he drove off. One of the instrumentalists, a drummer, came forward.
“Did he do anything to you, ma’am?” He asked in a low tone.
She shook her head then crossed her arms, a seductive smile flashing across her full lips. “I like him.”
