Chapter 83: Danger Unleashed
As they settled into the luxurious limousine, they couldn't help but feel uneasy. Her head was still reeling from the kiss she and Lac shared earlier, and the interview loomed ahead.
She glanced at him and unexpectedly, their gaze met. Feeling shy, she shifted her gaze away from him slowly.
“You look nervous..take a deep breath and relax your nerves.” He said, his hand reaching hers.
Elora nodded then obeyed his words. She felt a spark of electricity as his hand touched hers gently, making her feel reassured.
“I will try my best not to embarrass you.” She let out softly.
Lac grinned. “You don't have to do too much, just serve yourself .”
Elora nodded again, processing Lac’s words. She knew she had to be herself and strong as Lac said. She had to be confident and poised so as not to embarrass herself and Lac. She closed her eyes, recollecting Lyra’s words even though she had forgotten some.
As they approached the venue, the buzz of the media was overwhelming and Elora’s anxiety spiked. Cameras clicked continuously and she could see the crowd of reporters and their shining cameras.
They were all waiting for shots of them and she felt a surge of fear but Lac’s hand on hers was reassuring.
Lac adorned his unreadable expression then looked at Elora.
“We are here. Stay close to me and yourself.” He said, his voice low and calm.
“I will keep that in mind.” Elora retorted softly and Icarus opened the door.
Lac stopped out first, commanding attention with his stature and confidence. The reporters waited, eager to see Elora. Lac extended his hand to Eloea and she took it, alighting from the limo.
The flash of the cameras was blinding and Elora’s gaze adjusted, slowly. Lac’s grip tightened on her wrist and Elora followed closely, keeping her chin high. She made eye contact with the sea of reporters and anxiety washed over her as they took pictures of them.
She remembered her resolve as Lac intertwined her fingers with hers. The silent show of solidarity made her feel more confident and they walked towards the stage set up, The noise began to quiet.
They were offered seats and they sat down.
“Thank you all for being here.” Lac started, his voice steady and assertive. “I know there are a lot of questions you want to ask Elora and me. I'm here to answer them truthfully.”
Elora smiled lightly as she felt all eyes on her, making her squeeze Lac’s hand.
A female journalist stepped forward, glancing at Elora. “Mr Jackson. You are a well-respected man and a few days back, you announced that Miss Elora is your mistress. Why did you choose to make her your mistress and what is the relationship about?”
Lac nodded. “Our relationship is complicated and Elora is more than just a mistress to me. She challenges me, questions everything to stand for and I’ve grown to care for her.”
The reporter immediately jotted down his reply as they mumbled amongst themselves.
“She was your stepsister. How do you feel about playing this role, Miss Elora?” Another journalist called out, eager to dive in.
Elora felt her heart racing but she was ready.
“I don’t have much to say but as you all know I’m his mistress and we have grown to support each other.” She answered back calmly.
The reporter's satisfied expression made Elora feel assured. She had given them the reply Lyra taught her and soon the interview came to a close.
The journalists were relentless but Lac was the one who asked the most questions and his charm and composure seemed to defuse any tension.
As they finished the interview, both of them stood up and the reporters took pictures of them.
Suddenly, before they could take a step, a loud crack echoed through the air, and Lac, as if sensing the impending danger, grabbed Elora and covered her instantly.
Elora’s heart skipped a beat as she saw a reporter clutching her arm, blood seeping through her white shirt.
Nico and the other men came forward shielding them from any harm. Another gunshot and screaming rang out, the reporters scrambled to safety while Lac turned to look in the direction of the shot, Elora standing behind him fearfully.
“Just as I predicted?” Lac let out, his hand still holding Elora’s wrist.
Nico nodded, his eyes scanning the buildings far away from them. “Yes, boss. Do I inform Nyx to get into action?”
“Yes. She must not let the sniper leave.” Lac commanded in a low tone.
“Sure boss,” Nico answered back then walked away from the area.
Lac turned to Elora as the shooting ceased. He scanned her from head to toe for any signs of injury. “Are you hurt? Are you okay?”
Elora nodded. Trying to process what was happening. “Y-yes. I’m fine.”
“Let’s leave here. It’s not safe.” He retorted as they sped away from the scene. His men formed a protective shield around him as they slid into the limo while they settled in the cars behind them.
“You don’t have to worry. We will get to the bottom of this.” He assured and Elora nodded, still shaken.
As they arrived at the mansion, Elora felt relieved that they were safe and that was all that mattered. Lac helped her out of the car then turned his gaze to one of the men as they alighted from the car.
“Escort her inside. Keep your ears and eyes on alert.” He instructed firmly and the red-headed man nodded as he stepped forward.
“Where are you going?” Elora inquired curiously.
“I won’t take long. Stay inside and be good.” He answered back firmly.
Elora gave him an understanding look then turned to leave, the red-headed man escorted her into the house while Lac watched.
As Elora entered the house, Lac’s expression hardened and he tightened his fist.
“I’ve had enough.”
He stated firmly.
He reached for his phone and then dialed Nico’s contact.
