Chapter. 24 Helping Logan
Author's POV
I turned my head left and right several times to find out what was around there. It turned out that there were a lot of different rooms. From rooms for eating, storing arrows and bows to the one that really caught my attention. A place of worship. In the center was a statue of the Moon Goddess, but with a frightening facial expression. She looked angry with a hand that looked like she was cursing someone. Very different from the Moon Goddess that the werewolves in my Pack are used to upholding who is very patient, loving and happiness-giving.
"Hey! Why are you just standing there? Come in and worship our Great Moon Goddess," someone said from inside the room.
I shook my head quickly. There was no way I could reply to him with words. Because he would immediately become suspicious of my female voice. I quickly left there and followed Herduro's footsteps. Fortunately, there was only one road, and it was straight ahead. So it wasn't hard for me to find the bastard werewolf again, even though I had fallen quite far behind.
In the distance, I saw a room that was being guarded by two Zekora. They looked very obedient to Herduro. It was evident from their submissive attitude and immediately did Herduro's command to open the door. I waited for Herduro to come out while thinking of a plan to save Logan. Because it was very difficult for me to fight them all in their lair like this.
Wait! I see the security inside here isn't as tight as outside. That means they're only thinking about the outside area. Without thinking about the security inside. Because they must have thought that no one would dare to infiltrate this underground cave. This was very advantageous. No spies, no one snooping around. I could take advantage of this as soon as possible. As I began to strategize. Suddenly, a werewolf from Herduro's men came and startled me.
"Hey! What are you even standing here for? You still have a lot of work to do in there. Come on, come with me!" The man pulled me roughly. "Why are your arms so small? Have you not been eating well lately? Don't we always give you plenty of food?" he said, as if answering one of my questions.
So, that was the reason. The Zekora was willing to obey all of Herduro's orders. Because Herduro gave them food stocks. But can't the Zekora provide their own food by farming around this cave area? Then why did they run out of food? I was thinking so much that I didn't realize that we had come to a room that looked more like a king's throne. I squinted my eyes to see a king's seat on top of a tall pyramid that towered almost to the roof with quite a lot of steps as decoration and bigger steps to climb up to the seat.
"Don't just stand around! Do your job by cleaning up this place immediately! Before Lord Herduro returns and wants to rest on his throne," the man said sternly.
What? This throne belonged to Herduro? Is that how much power he has over this place? I'm getting more and more clueless about the situation here. However, I'm locked in from the outside and won't be let in until this place is completely clean. So I couldn't help but clean up this place that felt so stuffy.
"Ish. Is there really anyone who can rest in a place like this? Just a few moments here already makes me dizzy and want to vomit," I muttered. But, I cleaned the place anyway. As I wiped down the dozens of small steps that adorned the pyramid. I saw relief patterns that seemed to tell a story.
Because I started wiping from the bottom. I didn't really understand what the reliefs were talking about. However, when I reached the topmost small step. I just realized something. All my questions had answers there. As if the maker of this throne who understood my thoughts. Provided it.
Starting from the beginning of the Moon Goddess cursing them. For making a big mistake in the pack. They were banished from the rest of the Zekora herd and would have trouble finding food. Their mistakes, left unexplained, are rewarded in the relief. Then came the figure of Herduro and his men, who saved them and continuously gave them enough food. On the condition that the exiled Zekora must submit and obey all Herduro's orders. Including giving them shelter and protection.
"Alright. At this point, I understand why they are so obedient to Herduro. But, what are they destroying the Black Moon Pack's Northern field for? Was it just to avenge Herduro?" I muttered. I continued reading the next relief image.
Then it was depicted. If Herduro also had ties with a large and ruthless Rogues to destroy the Black Moon Pack. He was deliberately assigned specifically by that person to make the Black Moon Pack suffer.
"I thought so. Surely Herduro is the major culprit of the destruction of the Northern Fields, but who are the other dastardly Rogues referred to in this relief?" I muttered. Furthermore, I didn't understand what the relief carver wanted to say. Because on the last step of the stairs, he only repeated the same image. An image that looked like a symbol I had seen in a book before.
"I've seen this symbol? But what does it mean? I forgot," I asked myself. It wasn't long before the man who locked me out earlier opened the door to the room.
"Hey! What took you so long? Have you really not eaten yet? Then hurry up and eat first! Then continue your work!" he said. I just nodded in agreement and didn't make any sound. So that she wouldn't get suspicious. When she left. I hurriedly returned to where Logan was being held hostage. I saw Herduro come out laughing loudly. I pulled up my head covering again so he couldn't recognize me. I came towards the two Zekora who were guarding the room.
"It's time to eat! Eat first and let me take care of it!" I said in a tone that I made heavier. My chest was pounding because they didn't immediately agree with my words. Instead, they looked at each other with suspicious faces. Fortunately, after a few moments passed. They nodded in agreement.
"Alright. Take good care of her! And here's the key!" said one of the two guards as he handed over a cylindrical piece of wood with jagged edges.
"Sure." I replied in a tone that I still made heavier than usual. I pretended to be on guard like they did. After they were out of sight. I directly inserted the jagged tip into the hole that had been specially made on the door. I tried turning it right and left a few times. Because I was quite panicked and nervous. My hands were sweaty, so it was very difficult to move the lock. I tried to half-ass it. So that no one would get suspicious. In fact, I wrapped the key in the robe I was wearing. To make it easier for me to turn the key. Finally, I heard the sound of the lock opening. I smiled with relief as I slowly opened the door. I let go of the robe on my body when I saw Logan in distress in the room. Without wasting much time. I quickly helped him free himself with my claws.
"Thank you, Carol," Logan said sincerely. I was silent for a moment. I don't know why my heart felt happy with his ordinary words.
"You're welcome, Logan!" I replied, looking away. Actually, it was to cover my cheeks that were already red. Instead, I saw a body that was being gnawed on by small animals like leeches and scorpions. I quickly cleaned all the small animals off her body. Because I'm sure it must have been very painful.
