Sapphire's POV
I silently watched the old lady and Jason narrate their story even though Jason had a different view of the legend, it was really intriguing, linking two legends together. It all seemed like a reasonable explanation for the hatred and mix up of bad emotions between the Vampires and werewolves.
"So, what happened to Kael and Lyra? Did they die in a strange land?" I asked, the myth getting interesting.
Striking a key in the piano, "Well, Mazuk's ultimate mission was to harness the special skills of werewolves for his own gain. He wished to create a special hybrid, combining werewolf and vampire strength and performing a special ritual which would give his heir unique strength to be the supreme leader of the entire physical world."
" Maleek, the first hybrid," I heard the old she-wolf say. It was the name of the Mazuk's child, the hybrid formed, according to the werewolf version of the myth. He was killed by werewolf warriors when he was just 2 years old. They captured and killed him, fully aware that his growth would be of great use to the supernatural world.
"Mazuk took Kael to his pack and tried to strike a bargain with him," Jason said, getting up and moving towards us, his hands in his trouser pocket. He stopped halfway, as he continued.
"Kael of course refused, receiving extreme torture and humiliation by Mazuk and his brainwashed warriors. It was strange how wolves of other packs were still, not attacking Mazuk's pack at the moment. "
" But they later did, right? " I asked.
" Yes they did, but Lyra was far gone by then. " Jasons answered, he was already angry with the whole narration, his hatred and animosity against vampires seemingly growing the most. His fists were already clenched as he stood in front of me and the old she-wolf.
"Later on, the wolf werewolf packs in the entire continent and a whole lot beyond the continent, fueled with rage and sorrow launched a counterattack. The great war between the Vampires and Werewolves began at that point." he was already gritting his teeth. The story was a little bit different from what my father told me when I was little. He moved back towards the large window, his hands now behind him.
"On hearing the news of the attack by the werewolves, all the vampires from neighboring packs and beyond, without waiting for an explanation or seeking a suitable end to the conflict, joined in the fight." He paused, his claws already fully out.
"For decades," the old lady said, " the conflict raged on, with both sides suffering heavy losses. The once peaceful coexistence was replaced by anger, hurt, death, retaliations, mistrust, and hatred."
Getting up, "and to this day, Vampires and Werewolves remain sworn enemies, each side trying to eradicate the other, I'll be going now. Was nice staying with you both," the old she-wolf added, picking up the duvet and blanket she dropped on the beer table.
"Oh, it's nice hearing from an elderly wolf too," I replied, smiling lightly at her. She returned the smile, bowing slightly.
"My hatred for vampires is strongly tied to their resolved decision of not trying to end the war, but to join their kind in the slaughter," Jason added, his face fully facing outside the window. I watched him, and somehow, his back looked more sexy than yesterday, his shoulder and back muscles carving brilliantly the light coming through the window.
"Shouldn't you be returning to the pack? You've spent a lot of time here, we still have a lot of work to do at the pack" my wolf reminded me. I looked across the room to the large clock hanging on the wall adjacent to my seat, my heart racing when I noticed how long I'd spent here.
"It's nice listening and talking to you, ma'am, hoping to see you some more time," Jason finally said, signaling an end to the long mythical story.
"Of course darling, anytime," she replied, smiling. "Except that I must say that you shouldn't base your hatred on an entire kind just on a myth," she added, smiling and heading to the door.
I wanted to explain to the old lady that Jason's hatred for vampires was more deep-rooted than it showed, that she wouldn't understand how much he hated those creatures, but Jason cut me short. He was still talking. He wanted to know more.
"And why not?" he asked her, turning to face our direction.
"Damn!! His abs...uhh," Enya exclaimed. His shirt buttons were opened revealing a very appealing structure of his body build.
"You'll drag him with me now, won't you? Slut," I teased, attracted to his abs as well.
" Oh, I won't. I have a connection with his wolf and believe me, it's far way better than himself, at least it won't break my heart. I don't even have one, just so you know."
"Enya!!! You always get what you want, I teased."
" I'm your wolf, what else am I supposed to do here when you're not keeping me company? "
" You just have a way of cheering me up, you know, the side comment always does " I confessed truthfully. So far, she has been my inner self, my being, the only one who stood with me through it all, and I deeply respect her for it. "Sometimes I'm forced to wonder if you'll still stick around if you had a choice."
" Of course I had and still have a choice, just that soon the moon goddess will require that I'm permanently separated from you."
"Oh, I see what you did there," I replied, amused. "And what makes you think that she'll heed to your plea?"
"You'll never know how much inner wolves are close to the moon goddess," she replied.
" Now I know that you have a choice. Thank you for always being there, taking all my commands, and trying to protect me and distract me just like you did a few moments ago. Thank you."
"I'm truly happy being in you and around you. What will you do without me." Enya said will all confidence.
