Chapter 36

The following day the ladies made their way to the office to start building their module. The best part was that they sketched everything on a piece of paper and they knew that they wanted to create.

They opened the door and again they admired the beauty of the offices. They started the module almost immediately see that the party is two days away.

The first part of the building went well. The second part went even better but required a little bit of brainstorming but it went well. It was almost midnight when they were finally done but they were not worried at all. Instead they sat on the carport and later they laid down but luckily it was a thick mat in Mel’s office. They fell asleep and woke up at three in the morning. They rushed home and then went straight to bed. they following day they were still in bed by nine and their mom could not understand and called a doctor.

They are over tired mam, all they need is some rest and good healthy food the Dr says.

Thank you Dr, we understand Dave says and walked the Dr to his car.

Dave honey don’t you think this job will be too tiring for our girl? Liz ask.

No sweetheart. This is the first time they worked this hard and after every job completed you rest. Isn’t that what we do darling? He asks.

I guess you right my love I was just so worried about them Liz replies.

They left the girls to sleep almost whole day but at supper time Liz went to go wake them up. They got up without any hassles because they were well rested.

You girls had me worried Liz says and looked at them with concern eyes.

We sorry mom, we were just too tired to get up today. thank you for being so thoughtful to get the Dr out but I can assure you that I am fine Mel says.

Now everyone looked at Al.

I’m also fine I was just too tired we even fell asleep on the mat in Mel’s office.

How could you ladies be so careless to fall asleep at work? Liz asks.

Mom it was nothing serious just us being tired Al says while she’s busy eating her food.

Mel do you know what’s on the menu for tomorrow night? Al ask.

I have no idea sis but I will soon find out she says and started typing a message on her phone.

“Hi my dear no need to worry we have everything under control okay” Ethan typed back in his message to Mel.

Ethan says they have everything in control Mel says.

Leave it at that the men have it all covered so why don’t the two of you go rest some more Liz requested.

I want to spend some time with the kids’ mom then I will go and sleep again Mel says.

That’s perfectly fine dear but I don’t know how much time you will be able to spend with them because they watching some Animal program with your father Liz says.

That sounds interesting Mel says and got up to go and see them.

Hello guys ssshhhhhhh Mike and Cindy did at the same time.

Sorry Mel says softly.

When it was an ad break Mike started speaking.

Mommy do you know when elephants pass on their family cries he asks.

Mommy did you know that octopus blood is blue? Cindy ask.

Oh you guys are really so smart right? She says.

Mommy grandpa says that you and aunty Al will work hard and be rich one day.

Mel laughed and replied.

We have to work very hard to be rich my babies but we will get there Mel explains.

Does that mean that we won’t see you much mommy? Cindy asks.

I will work hard but will make time for you I promise okay? Mel reassured them.

Yes mommy the kids says and went back to watching their program.

I will be going back to bed now Mel says and headed for her bedroom.

Sis, Al called her before she could enter her bedroom.

Dylan made a spa booking for the both of us at ten tomorrow morning she says.

That’s perfect, thanks sis Mel says.

I will let him know that you thanked him Al says and they said their good nights.

Mel had a conversation with Ethan over the phone for about half an hour then she fell asleep immediately after that.

The following day Mel decided to do some work outs before she got ready for the day. It wasn’t really easy because she was alone. She did a couple of moves and after a while she got into a shower and was ready before ten.

The two sisters met up in the lounge and left the house.

They got the best of treatment, hair, nails, massages and then make up when they were done with everything.

We didn’t even get ourselves dresses Al says and they made their way quick out of the spa to go to the shopping centre. They went to most of the boutiques and finally got their dressers.

Mel went for something very long and black and Al went for a royal blue dress.

They rushed to the office to see what is happening there but was spotted by Ethan so he and Dylan got rid of them quickly.

Go and get ready the event is starting in two hours’ time Ethan says and kissed Mel on her forehead.

Dylan kissed Al on the lips and gave her a hug. I will see you just now baby he says.

We will send a car over later so you don’t need to drive here Ethan says and the ladies left.

They went home and after having some late lunch they went to their rooms to go and get dressed. Mel touched up her make up then put the dress and new shoes on. She put some perfume on and lastly she added the jewellery that Ethan bought her to her attire. Mel left the room and got Al in the passage.

Wow sis you look great Mel says.

And you look amazing Mel, Al says.

Dave and Liz was waiting for them in the lounge and announced that there was a limousine waiting outside. They got into the car and made their way safely to the event. Mel suddenly felt nervous.

What’s wrong sis? Al ask.

I am suddenly so nervous, what if the people don’t like our work? she asks.

Then they will be crazy not to its really marvellous work love Ethan says from behind them.

You looking beautiful love he says and gave Mel a kiss on the cheek.

Thank you love, you look handsome too.

Now everyone is waiting on you ladies to enter but do so after I showed your parents in Ethan requested.

They walked in after everyone and a loud applause could be heard as soon as they entered the reception area.

The ladies were introduced to everyone and again there was a loud applause. People gathered around to ask the ladies more about their designs and they were more than happy to explain. They never know that Ethan invited reporters as well but they not upset about it at all. Everyone gathered around when the journalist started asking questions. In no time the questioning was over and Ethan had a surprise for Mel in her office. Maria was sitting there looking all so beautiful in her dress.

Mama Mel says and ran into her arms. How are you doing?

I’m well child I was just so worried about you Maria says and started sobbing again.

Don’t worry mama I’m doing well now Mel says and hugged her.

Ethan left the room for the two to do some catching up while everyone else was getting drinks and food.

How things at the orphanage? Mel asks.

I don’t know I left soon after you left Maria says. I was hoping to get hold of you but nothing.

Mama I know I promised you that I would come back to see you but George just didn’t want me to go.

George? Maria repeated.

Yes mama he was my husband but he was very abusive. We have twins together Mel says.

You have babies? Maria asks.

Yes mama Mel replies.

Mel I need to tell you something Maria says.

Just after you left there was some insurance guys that came to look for you. I tried by all means to give them some idea of where you might be but with no success. Mel I think you inherited some money from your parents.

You think so mama? Mel asks.

Yes I do Maria says. They gave me a card and you can call the company Maria says.

Mama why did you leave the orphanage? Mel ask.

Because it felt so empty without you there my child. There was no one that could fill my broken heart Maria says.

Well we back together now and I’m not letting you go Mel says.

Where do you stay mama? You said you had no family Mel questioned.

I have no family child except you Maria says. I’m living with a couple that I clean for.

No moma I don’t want you to do that Mel says and hugged Maria.

I will look after you moma Mel says while still hugging her.

Ethan knocked on the door and Mel waved for him to come in.

Baby I’m really sorry to disturb but you have clients that can’t wait till tomorrow to speak to you he says.

Okay love I’m coming.

Maria please come and join us here inside and get yourself something to eat and drink Ethan suggested.

Thank you for bringing me to my child Ethan I really appreciate this Maria says and everyone left Mel’s office.

Mel walked inside and A had her hands full with all the requests.

Can I please ask who wants to come and see us regarding a house that you want us to design for you? Mel asks.

There were five couples that wanted houses and Mel quickly gave them appointment dates to come and see them at the office.

That was brilliant sis Al says after breathing out loud.

Tracy can you please capture all these appointments for us? Mel ask

Tracey is the new appointed receptionist. She is a quiet yet very enthusiastic young lady. She has good qualities and dream of being an architect herself one day. There were potential clients for two business premises that they needed to design according to their needs. The night went extremely well and the guest left one by one. Mel was so busy with organising meetings that she forgot about Maria that was sitting on a couch looking at her with a proud face. When Mel made looked around she spotted Maria and immediately went closer.

Mama I’m so sorry for leaving you just like this. It really wasn’t my intention at all.

No my child I know that you could never just ignored me. I know you are busy so I can wait till you done Maria says with a soft smile.

Thank you mama. I would like to introduce you to my adopted parents Mel says.

She walked with Maria to where Dave and Liz was having a conversation with Ethan and they stopped talking when Mel and Maria reached them.

Mom and dad this is Maria Rodrigues the lady that was like a mom to me when I was in the orphanage.

Liz introduced herself and then her husband with a warm smile on her face.

Thank you for adopting Melissa. She is really a very good child Maria says.

She and the twins is nothing but a blessing to us Dave says.

That’s good Maria says while she’s looking around.

What are you looking for mama? Mel ask.

I checked to see if the kids were here too Maria says.

No mama they at home with Olivia, their nanny Mel advices. Don’t worry mama you will see them soon Mel says and smiled.

Baby, Ethan called Mel to the side. I think it would be good if Maria sleeps at our place and the two of you can do some catching up Ethan says.

Yes baby that sounds like a good idea Mel says thank you.

They rest of the family left and Mel, Ethan and Maria went to his place.

What a beautiful place you have Ethan she says.

Thank you but Mel designed the house I only got builders Ethan replies.

I am going to make us a quick pasta dish Mel says and changed into one of Ethan’s sweaters and track pants. Ethan jumped in and helped while Maria was given a glass of red wine and shown to a chair in the kitchen. They spoke about Mel’s pass and her relationship now with Ethan. The evening went well and after some time Ethan excused himself and went to bed. Mel and Maria were still talking till late and then finally went to bed.
