Chapter 69 Doom!

After reading Angel's text I begin to feel very uneasy as several thoughts race through my mind, the most prominent thought in my mind was that she had found out about I and Axel's continued involvement and she had told the rest of the family.
I swallowed deeply as I wondered how furious my father and brother would be, I wouldn't hear the last of it and they'd definitely make sure to ruin everything Axel and I have worked so hard for.
The mere thought of losing him sent dreadful shivers down my spine and I sat up in bed while still staring at the text across my screen.
However, for my sanity, I convinced myself that since Axel and I had barely dated for a week she couldn't possibly have found out about us.
With that in mind, I managed to calm my nerves and think of a way to get home since she insisted that there was an urgent matter at hand in the text she'd sent.
I sat in bed and my mind wandered as far as it could just so that I could come up with a better reason why Angel would need to see me rather than Axel and it reignited the flame.
Axel was still cleaning up so I still had time to work out what I'd say to him when he returned to the room, I didn't need him worrying about us when we were finally happy and at peace with each other.
But at the same time, I couldn't help but assume the worst possible scenario was the reason Angel needed me at home urgently.
I hear the shower head gets turned off in the bathroom and I figure out that Axel was done taking a quick shower.
As much as I didn't want to, I was still fixated on the text on my phone's screen and every muscle in my body felt tense and uneasy. I could hear Axel's footsteps as he walked out of the bathroom but I didn't feel like turning away from my phone.
"You okay, Red? You seem tense" his voice broke through my thoughts and I was a little startled at how deeply and clearly it resonated in my ears.
"Yeah, yeah. Of course. It's nothing" I stuttered, giving myself away, but I knew he wouldn't pry too hard to respect my decision to share little to no information at the moment.
"You sure?" he sat beside me and smoothed away the loose strands of hair on my face gently.
"Um, yeah. My sister needs me at home for something urgent so I'll be leaving now" I shot him a reassuring smile and stood up to get ready to leave.
"Alright, do you need me to give you a ride to your hostel for a quick change of clothes?" he asked with concern, lacing his every word.
"Thank you, sweetheart, but I'm just going home so these will do" I replied while pulling on my jeans quickly.
"You'll let me know how everything goes later?" he asked while watching me closely as I pulled my shirt over my head.
"Of course, thank you so much again for a wonderful date," I said, grabbing my jacket and purse. "My ride will be here in 2 minutes so I have time for a big ass hug and one last kiss" I beckoned to him
while smiling.
"I'd never say no to that" he stands up and wraps me in a warm embrace as though he knew I was worried and needed a gentle hug. "I love you okay?" he kissed my forehead, cheeks, and lips making
I giggle.
"I love you so so much, you have no idea" I replied, still enjoying being wrapped in his arms.
My phone dinged to signal that my ride had arrived and the worries I'd somehow buried away because I shifted my focus to Axel immediately consumed me again.
"Gotta go, a breeze!" I gave him a quick kiss and broke away from the embrace and ran for the stairs, he was only in a towel so I knew he'd not be able to come after me and delay me anymore.
As soon as I stepped out of the gate, I spotted the car that matched the details that were provided on my Uber app and I quickly got in.
"Get me there as fast as you can, I'll tip you nicely, thank you," I said to the driver as soon as I got comfortable in my seat and he nodded eagerly and started the ride.
I was grateful that he didn't make a big deal out of my request, my mind was wandering like crazy and I just needed the urgent matter Angel spoke of to be done as soon as possible.
The ride home was painstakingly slow even though the driver had intentionally taken the fastest routes to avoid being delayed by traffic.
I simply stared outside the window and counted the seconds until we pulled up at my elegant family house.
As soon as I paid the driver and tipped him generously I began walking towards the entrance of the house feeling tenser than I was earlier.
The doors of the house opened and revealed a woman in a maid's outfit and I immediately gathered that she had been sent to fetch me. "Welcome home miss, your presence is required in your father's study urgently," the maid said as she shut the door behind me and walked away briskly before I could reply.
My heartbeat picked up instantly as I knew that Angel was waiting for me with my father because he'd never allow anyone into his study alone, I felt like everything around me was crumbling and breathing had become somewhat hard as I walked towards my father's study.
As I stood in front of the door I wondered how unbelievably furious my father would be if Angel had told him about my relationship with Axel and I hesitated for a while.
I'm certain that I stood outside the door for a few minutes before I eventually mustered the courage to knock and enter the study.
The air was tense and immediately I set eyes on my father and brother's stoic expressions while Angel smiled victoriously, I knew that the worst had happened.
I was more certain than ever that my family had found out about my relationship with Axel and I truly wished more than anything that the ground would open up and swallow me that very moment.
Carefully, I walked towards them cautiously trying my best to muster up some courage and tread lightly before my father or brother got the opportunity to fly into a fit of rage.
"Hello Dad, Big Brother, happy to see your little princess?" I said in hopes to diffuse the tense air of uncertainty as I took my seat.
To my surprise, I was met with an envelope being slammed by my dad across the table where I sat without even dignifying my question with an answer.
I knew that he must be furious to ignore me so I reached for the envelope and as soon as I opened it my mouth went completely dry and my palms became sweaty.
It was filled with photos of the day before that I'd spent with Axel at the park, the photos had been taken from different angles while we were enjoying our dreamy picnic.
I released a shaky breath as I stared unbelievably at the photos, and despite my discomfort, I still overheard Angel scoff as though she had no regrets.
I knew it was risky to be seen in public with Axel but I had no idea that an informant was placed so closely on my tail that he followed us to a closer and dejected park. I knew I had to defend myself
immediately so I spoke.
"Dad I can explain-"
"I don't want to hear a peep from you! I'm so disappointed in you, this is an all-time low I never thought you'd reach" he said at the top of his voice and I was startled at how loud he could get.
"I really thought I raised you sensibly and far better than to become a mere slut for an Ivanov whose family has been threatening our family business for years!" he demeaned me and somehow that made me furious despite being scared initially.
"Dad, I'm an adult and I can make decisions for myself without being treated like a thoughtless child" I began equally pissed at how he addressed me.
"Also, before you crucify me, let's address the fact that Angel disobeyed my direct order and dared to put men on my tail after I told her not to!" I shot a deadly gaze toward Angel.
"I would rather not be dragged into this," Angel said in a low tone as though she simply didn't give a fuck.
"You're stupid and dumb for having the audacity to point fingers at Angel after she saved the day by putting men on your tail, otherwise no one would've known about the stupid shit you're doing as well as putting our family business in danger!" My father raised his voice at me again and as every word left his lips it fueled my rage.
"I'd have put you on house arrest long ago if I knew you were spineless enough to fall for Axel Ivanov and spread your legs for him like common whore" I watched him stare straight at me angrily and
it hurt that he could degrade me without a care in the world.
Even though I was equally enraged at this point, my father's words hurt like a sore wound and memories of how he used to verbally abuse me growing up flashed through my mind and shattered my emotional defenses, no one deserves to be watered down with hurtful words by their own father no matter what had happened.
However, despite his constant insults and verbal abuse, I'd focused obsessively on my training while growing up until I became the most powerful assassin in the mafia, I'm sure I could survive
whatever he threw my way this time as well.
As soon as he opened his mouth to spew more nonsense, I quickly interrupted him.
"I and Axel are in love! So deeply that it could bring an end to the family rivalry that has gone on for years" I said confidently while they all stared at me as though I had grown literal horns.
"Shut your trap this minute Lisa! I can't believe that you've become borderline delusional enough that a man like Axel could brainwash you into believing that garbage" he went on blinded by anger and refusing to listen to reason.
"You better call off whatever's going on between you two before you get on my last nerve and I do something you'll regret for the rest of your lives, both of you!!" he points at me as he speaks and I
shake my
head in disbelief.
"You're so blinded by hatred and rage that you can't see that your little girl is genuinely happy for the first time in her life," I say bitterly while he throws his head back in sarcastic and sinister laughter.
"I don't want to hear his name leave your lips ever again and I never want to see you anywhere near that good for nothing! You hear me?!" he continues as though nothing I said held any meaning to
him.
Before I could retort, Angel finally broke her silence in the heat of the moment.
"If we really take it into consideration, Lisa getting into a relationship with Axel at this exact moment might be a blessing in disguise," She says with a sinister smile playing on her lips and I'm genuinely irritated that she had the guts to butt in and spew utter rubbish.
I stared at her as she moved in her chair slyly and I was sure that whatever she had in mind would further hurt my relationship with Axel as if she hadn't done enough damage already.
More than anything, I wanted to know what was running through her evil mind.
