Chapter 36

Madeline POV

Pauline was carried away of the jealousy she felt that day when she walked out of the coffee shop and she didn't hesitate to tell me about it when I followed her.

Both of us are still not okay because I didn't know what to do when we had our fight that night... since then, we stopped talking. She's avoiding me and I think I deserved it because I was a complete mess.

I was a jerk for letting her feel that way.

(Flashback)

I instantly followed Pauline when she walked out of the coffee shop. I was calling her name but she won't look at me. People are looking at me because I keep on calling Pauline but I don't care. What's important is to know why Pauline is acting that way. Did I do something wrong?

Did I make her mad about what I said awhile ago? I don't know. As far as I know, we're okay... or we're really not?

I continue to follow her until we reached the parking lot. She's heading to her car and since there were not much people in here, I took the chance to hold her arm the moment I came close to her.

"Madeline! Let go of me!" She yelled but I didn't let go.

"What's your problem, Pauline? Why did you left us there? What's wrong with you?" I frowned because what she did awhile ago was really embarrassing to think that Bea and Jo are here.

"You really want to know what's my problem?" She asked.

"Of course! You're acting very different these past few days. Ever since we came back here in Manila, you become so weird. I don't even get you!"

I saw her eyes started to water and she wiped it off immediately. "Because I don't even understand myself, Madeline! I don't know why my heart aches each time I see you with someone else! I don't know why am I even feeling this way when I knew to myself that I don't even have a tiny chance on you. I never thought I'd fall for you this hard and it hurts that I cannot do anything to stop it..."

I just stared at her... I don't know what to do and what to say. I feel my heart beating so fast. I couldn't even breathe. I wasn't expecting this. I wasn't expecting this to happen right now. I wasn't prepared to hear it from her...

It hurts to see her like that but it feels so good to know that she's in love with me. It was my first time to have someone confessed their feelings for me that's why I still don't know what to do.

I saw her laughed bitterly. "I'm so stupid to fall for someone like you. I thought you cared about me. Don't worry, Madeline. Just forget that this day happened."

That's the only thing she said before she left me all alone here.

(End of Flashback)

Yes, I didn't even say a thing when she confessed to me. I was so surprised. But, I think she misinterpret my silence. It was not a rejection, it was just that, I didn't know what to react since it was my first time to hear a confession.

Before that day happened, I am thinking of getting Bea again because I want to help her heal faster but I just realized that, I was just concerned about Beatriz because she's still a friend of mine and it is not because I'm still in love with her and we already promised each other to stay as friends whatever happens. We're better off that way ever since and I should have known that.

Since I don't want to talk to Bea about this because I don't want to add on her problems, I messaged Trey and thank God she's free today. I know it's kind of weird to talk to Pauline's sister about her. But Trey is the only person who would really help me about this.

I went to Trey's house immediately.

**

"Don't look for her here, Madeline. She's not yet here." said Trey when she saw me looking everywhere in their house.

"But why? It's getting late. Why don't you text her to come home?" I asked because I was so worried.

She laughed. "She's in the bar with her friends plus she's already in her legal age. She can do whatever she wants to do."

I just nodded.

"So, what's your problem, Mads?"

"She confessed to me and I wasn't able to say anything that time. I think she misinterpreted my silence."

"Yeah, Pauline would always misinterpret things. She's really that kind of girl. So, do you like her too or nah?"

"Of course... I do."

Trey's face got serious. "Madeline, you know how much I love my sister, right? I really don't want her to get hurt again. She's been through a lot and I know you are too. But, can you please just make sure that you have really moved on from Bea? That you don't have any little feelings about her before making a move on my sister?"

I know that Trey is just protecting her sister. We know how soft-hearted Pauline is. Even I, myself, don't want her to see in pain. I guess, Trey is just right.

I nodded. "Yes, Trey. Don't worry, I'll make sure of that first before courting your sister."

"Thank you, Madeline."

For now, I'll just see to it that I don't have any feelings for Bea at all. I will make sure also that what I feel for Pauline is greater than anything else. I won't let her cry like that in front of me ever again, but if she still cries, I'll make sure that it was because of genuine happiness.
