Chapter Twenty-Two
Zeeland
Satisfaction wasn’t exactly what I was feeling, but I was placated to a considerable level. Traitors and liars were amongst what I detested. Executing a traitor was a good way to start the evening in my book, aside from lopping off the head of an enemy in a gory war, of course. I craved two glasses of whiskey—neat, and a good hot bath. Then I’d await the offering sent by my Beta. I was not really looking forward to it though.
Somewhere deep in my mind, I wondered if it was true. But it couldn’t be.
This part of the castle was hidden, and no one, except my Beta, was aware of it. I was free to walk on my legs as much as I liked. As I pushed open the door, the scent of a living human hit me, spiking up the roar of my blood level. My eyes narrowed and I took heavy steps into the room.
A violent aura drifted off me, and all I saw was red—the color of blood. I wanted to strangle, to watch my helpless victim choke out their last words as life seeped out of them. I knew what I was feeling was as a result of the torture I just meted out to a traitor back in the dungeon. I clenched my fists to keep myself in check. My lips curled upwards, as my eyes landed on the figure on the bed, eyes widened at the sight of me. Good. She should be afraid of me, tremble at the sight of me, the sound of my footsteps.
“Zeeland?”
“Surprised?” I asked.
“You can walk?” She whispered, eyes still widened.
I chuckled—a cold sound that echoed in the room.
My steps were swift, and I was by the bedside in a quick motion, hand gripping her neck. She gasped, the sound hitting something in my chest. Through the aid of my superb night vision, and the bedside lamp, I could see her face clearly. She was a unique sight, and no matter how many times I saw her, I just couldn’t get over it. I had seen many beautiful women before, fucked a lot of them with no strings attached. There had been passionate moments, yes, but most of them were bland trysts. The woman on the bed, looking straight at me with eyes wide, freckles dotting her nose, blonde hair brushed back and tied into a ponytail that revealed her slender neck, was…
“Let’s not make this hard for you. Are you a vampire?” I demanded, as the urge to conquer and subdue filled me. I was still enraged by the fact that my brothers just wouldn’t stop provoking me whenever they got the chance. I could snap off their necks at any moment I pleased though.
My eyes roamed over Jaslyn’s body. What she wore revealed her cleavage and had a slit on the side that showed her leg up to the thigh. She parted her legs subconsciously, and my eyes landed on the moist part of the bed where she was currently sitting. Fuck. It looked like her juice.
Air was sucked out of my chest as a unique sea-salt and moon-orchid suddenly hit my senses, flooding it and making my chest ache with a new longing. I didn’t like this. I didn’t like the fact that I was affected by this seemingly ordinary girl. My heartbeat quickened, and I gripped her neck.
“Knife got your tongue?” I asked, ignoring what I was feeling. Her neck was warm and so… Damn. I retracted my hand just as her eyes unfocused and her gaze was filled with slight fear. Her lips trembled, and she clutched at my bedsheets—my favorite wolf printed sheets—and exhaled in tremors.
“N-no, I am a vampire.” She muttered, her voice cracking. I hesitated, amusement creeping in.
“How do I know you’re not?” I asked her. I was aware that I reeked of blood, and well, bloodlust. And it was obviously scaring her. I didn’t want to care, but a part of me did. She shook her head in response to my question. I chuckled, a rumble that reverberated through my chest.
“A vampire is an enemy to me,” I said, with a scoff. She obviously flinched. In the past, I’d enjoy her fright, feed on her fear, then snap her head off her neck. It was a quick and mental process that left a lasting enjoyment on me. Enough to take me through the entire week if I did it well. Looking at her now, I didn’t feel the pressing need to snap her head off. In fact, the thought of it made my heart clench. Strange.
I could feel my mental shield crumbling. I stared at her with a new interest. It was an unusual occurrence. I waited for my wolf to express its hatred for her just like it always did for every female, regardless of her status. It will want to dig its claws into her chest, drawing blood and leaving her screaming. My wolf stirred, and I waited for the pitiful fate that awaited her.
“Mate.” A deafening roar sounded in my mind and entire being, shaking me with its strength, and almost pushing me back. My body stirred. I wanted her. I wanted her pinned under me, writhing and moaning my name, legs wrapped around my waist as I fucked her senseless. I wanted her to kneel in front of me, taking my cock into her mouth as I mouth-fuck her. I wanted every piece of her. The urge was sudden and new, and my body shook with the intensity of it. I leaned on the bed, my body crumpling its side, and sending Jaslyn pushing backwards with renewed fear. Amusement filled me again.
“What? Afraid of me now? You’re usually feisty. Two can play the game.” I said, advancing slowly like a predator cornering its prey. She was mine. Mine to fuck. Mine to keep.
“What are you trying to do?” her voice trailed off, and she tried to move backwards, only to hit the headboard.
“I won’t kill you.” I forced myself to assure her. I wouldn’t, but talking wasn’t my thing. “I just want to test my Beta’s theory.”
“By having sex with me? I’m not your toy.” She spat.
I laughed, the absurdity hitting me. “You’re not?” I questioned.
Her eyes lowered to my erection that created a tent in my blood-stained trousers. Her lips parted, and hunger flashed in her eyes.
In one quick motion, I tore her dress with one hand, and pinned her down with the other.
My voice turned hoarse and dangerous, revealing the promise of something dark, something intense.
“Let go,” she writhed beneath me.
“I don’t plan to. Little thing, you’ll soon regret provoking a beast that has starved for years.”
