Chapter 24 Chapter Twenty Four
The elevator came to a stop and I walked out with Denver following behind me. I went straight to Tiffany's office and led him inside.
"This is Miss Wellington's office. She helps manages the company and have been working here for years," I say as Denver examined the place.
"I see. I still haven't met her as yet. So, is she the only one who works on this top floor?" he asked, still looking around.
"No. My office is here as well and also Miss Collins," I replied as I led him back out the door, and that's when I noticed Vanessa coming from the bathroom.
She was dressed in a black skirt and a red and white blouse. Her hair was always either in a bun or loose on her shoulders. Today it was in a bun and she wore a pair of fashion earrings.
"This is my personal assistant Miss Collins," I said when she came up to us. I watched as Denver smiled and took her hand before kissing it.
I rolled my eyes at his charming behaviour.
"Such a beauty. I'm Denver O'Mard, nice to meet you," he said as he continued playing with her fingers.
I tapped my fingers against my tie as I started to feel impatient. I didn't have to ask if my coffee was on my desk because I had a feeling that it wasn't. I will deal with her later for that.
"You too sir", she replied before he finally let her fingers breathe again.
"Shall we continue?" I asked. Denver nodded before walking off in the opposite direction.
I looked at her for a few seconds before walking away. I noticed Tiffany standing to the side but I didn't pay her any attention.
We went back to the bottom floor and started talking to a few other business men who were close friends of Denver. I was about to leave and go get myself a cup of coffee when I heard him calling after Vanessa. She about to leave the building with her coworkers.
"Miss Collins, I talked to a few other assistants, and they said you work very efficiently. I need a small favour from you. You'll be rewarded, don't worry. So, can you help me out?" he said, a broad smile spreading across his lips.
"With what exactly, sir?" She asked, tilting my head slightly.
"I need you to type and print a stack of documents for me. I already have the files you'll be working from. All you need to do is read through each document and type a letter impeccable enough to strike a business deal or secure an interview. You'll be working at my mansion, and I have the most comfortable office prepared for you so you can work efficiently. These letters need to be done within a week, and I have to make sure they're issued before the deadline. Oh, and keep in mind that these are for VIPs."
After he finished, I watched Vanessa as she tried to speak. Something was off here and I looked at Denver as if I was trying to figure him out. I know he doesn't mean any harm but he could've asked someone else.
"You're trying to take my assistant?" I asked harshly, but it came off as playful to him. Why did I even say it like that? If he wanted her to work for him he could take her. All she does is challenge me anyways.
He only laughed and patted me on the back.
"I'm just borrowing her for a week or even more. She seems as if she can get the job done on time. I'm sure you can find someone to take her place for a few days. You're a business man, you should know how to improvise", He replied before walking off to talk to his friends.
"Seems like you have strike the interest of Denver, I wonder how come?" I said as I turned and looked at her. I stood with my eyes pericing into hers.
"You know, I was thinking of not taking his offer and not helping him out but then I thought, I definitely should. It's a good way to be away from you and your arrogant self. Don't worry, Tiffany can run your errands for you and sort your files, after all, she's your favourite."
As I heard every word leave her mouth, I felt this sort of rage and before she could turn away, I grabbed her hand and started pulling her. I ignored all the stares as I led her into an office which wasn't occupied before locking the door.
"I just can't fucking stand you!"
She flinched from my sudden outburst and stepped back until she was behind the small desk. The light in the room was low but I could definitely see her with her arms crossed as she turned her eyes away from me.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you!"
She didn't and something overcame me and I walked up to her and stared her down.
I pushed her body until she was bent over the desk and pressed my entire body weight on her. I could feel her body trembling as she refused to meet my eyes.
Her chest was rising and falling and I could hear my shallow breathing. My face was only a few inches from hers and that's when she finally looked me in the eyes.
I showed her all the emotions I was feeling for her. The hate, the disgust, the intolerance, the coldness everything. She was trying to mask her hurt by putting on a blank face but I could see right past it.
"Fuck! Why do you always have to challenge me? I hate it!"
She remained quiet as her breathing became heavier. She removed her eyes from mine and stared at the ceiling.
What was happening?
I felt like I was in a trance as to why I haven't moved as yet. This was unreal and my brain started to muster too many thoughts.
Even those forbidden thoughts.
"You make me feel so confused sometimes," I said next.
When I said that her eyes met mine. I cursed in my mind before I removed my body from hers. She laid there watching me as I tried to form words but my mind was not cooperating. I fixed my tie before walking out and slamming the door.
I really needed a coffee.
