Laura
“It’s not like that, Richard. Charme caused me trauma that didn’t necessarily have to do with my ex-husband,” I told him, trying to hold on to that.
I was swallowing hard, feeling cornered by his questions. I simply had no way of answering those questions. He was silent, sighing frustrated while still driving, he didn’t say another word, as if he had already given up discussing it with me, and when I thought he
wouldn’t say anything else, he asked me when he parked the car near Anne’s daycare.
“Tell me the truth, Laura. Do you still like him? Your asshole ex- husband.”
I fixed my hair, looking ahead, feeling my nerves on edge. Why the hell was he asking me that? What was his damn problem?
“Do you know that whoever remains silent consents?” He s already drawing his conclusions.
“I’m not consenting to anything, Richard. I don’t like Jason, you’re paranoid,” I said to him.
“Paranoid? How many months have we been dating? About four months, and you think it’s normal that we never go beyond simple kisses? There’s never any intimacy between us because you never let us!” He accused me, looking very upset.
“So the question here is because of this? Is it because of sex? I’m sorry to say, but I’m not going to have sex with you until I feel comfortable doing so,” I said to him, finding it ridiculous.

“With whom? With me? Haven’t I proved myself all this time? Because if you say no, either your standards are too high or you’re crazy. You know that I’m a good man and that you would be happy by my side, but you still keep this giant barrier between the two of us. I just hate it when you always thank me for the things I do for you and your daughter, as if I were doing what I do just out of pity. Damn, Laura. I do this because I love you and I love Anne, and I want you to be mine, but you won’t let me, it’s fucking boring!”
“Look, Richard. I take your point…”
“No, you didn’t take my point. You don’t know how much you make me suffer, Laura. Because if you did, you would try a little harder to make this work between us,” he said exasperatedly.
“But you know you have to go easy on me, I’m coming out of a messy divorce.”
“That was five years ago, Laura. Stop using this justification, it’s getting too old,” he cut me off.
“So, what do you want me to do, Richard?” I asked exasperate
“First of all, get your fucking ex-husband out of your head,” h practically shouting at me.
“Look, I’m not staying here. It’s cold, and my daughter is waiting f me there outside,” I said, wanting this stupid argument to end quickly.
“Our daughter, Laura. Anne is my daughter too!” He shouted at me
again. “I’m her only father, the only one she loves, and who knows
what’s best for her!”
I was noticing that Richard was becoming out of control and that his patience was running out. Maybe I should get out of this car, go get my daughter, get in a taxi, and go home with just Anne. “You need to

calm down. Stay here in the car, I don’t want Anne to see you like this, ” I said.
He laughed sarcastically. “Are you trying to make me look like the bad guy here, Laura? Holy shit! Do you think I would scream in front of Anne? What do you think I am?” I opened the car door to get out, but he grabbed my arm. “Wait, we’re not done yet!”
I got rid of him. “Please, Richard. Go home, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow at Hextec,” I told him, and I got out of the car, feeling the cold air wash over me, which was good because it helped ease the tension I was feeling. I was feeling.
God in heaven. I couldn’t believe that Richard and I had reached this
point. Our friendship would never be the same after today. I had ruined things when I proposed this stupid relationship with him. He was so insistent on me, but I just couldn’t engage with him, not while Jason Davies dominated my thoughts. I knew I was being a hypocrite, selfish, and awful, but I couldn’t do anything other than that.
I sighed, fixed my hair, and decided to put a carefree look on so that my daughter wouldn’t notice my mood. Furthermore, that Richard had turned the car around and left at high speed, perhaps he had also realized that he had to stay for a long time.

I went to my daughter’s daycare, going to the bench where the children sat to wait for their parents and guardians to come and pic them up. There were children there, but I didn’t see Anne. I frowned and approached Caleb, who was Anne’s little friend.
“Hi, Caleb. Are you okay, honey?” I asked him as soon as I approached. The little boy smiled at me.
“Hello, Mrs. Thompson.”
“Did you see Annie? I came to pick her up. Is she still in there?” I asked, pointing to the building.

“No, no. Anne left with her dad,” he said calmly.
“What? What do you mean when you say Anne left with her dad? Uncle Ricky didn’t come get her today,” I said to him. Perhaps the boy
had been mistaken.
“It wasn’t Uncle Ricky, it was Anne’s real dad. He took Anne out for a burger and fries and a giant cup of hot chocolate,” he said, excited about the food. I blinked, a little lost. What was this little boy talking
about?
“Caleb! It’s time to go,” called an older man who was still in his car. The man was Caleb’s father. “Hello, Mrs. Thompson.” The man waved
at me kindly, and I waved-back with a smile.
“Hello, Mr. Jackson. Good to see you,” I said to him.
“I have to go, Mrs. Thompson,” said the little boy, getting up from the stool and running to his father’s car, which soon drove off after a
wave.
I sighed and went to look for Anne again, clearly not believing the things the five-year-old boy had said to me. However, after briefly informing the daycare managers, they all told me that Anne was waiting outside with other children, which was safe because there were guards outside, but my daughter was still missing.
Already feeling a touch of despair, I picked up my cell phone and called my daughter’s cell phone, but it seemed to be turned off due to a lack of charge because Anne loved playing a game on her cell
phone that quickly consumed all the device’s charge.
was looking for her along with the school’s guardians and guards, but no one had noticed her disappearance. I was almost worried to death, I didn’t know what had happened to my daughter or where she was. Likewise, I was feeling a terrible fear of losing her
