Laura
“My God, what a huge hickey! You guys enjoyed the kiss yesterday, didn’t you?” Ava said it mischievously as she looked at the photo of my neck that I had sent her, and I rolled my eyes with a sigh.
“It wasn’t like that at all, it was just a simple kiss,” I lied, shrugging my shoulders to alleviate the situation.
“Since when does a simple kiss leave this huge mark on your neck? You guys took advantage of it, and that only makes things worse.”
“What do you mean when you say that makes things worse?”
“Lau, how long has it been since you last dated someone? How long has it been since
you had a relationship or been involved with a man?” She asked straight away, and I
ended up blushing at that question.
It was too personal, but Ava was my confidant, so I just sighed and replied, “Between
taking care of my daughter and building my career, I don’t have much time for
affairs.”
That sounds like excuses, honey. I bet if the guy in question was a certain attractive
blue–eyed billionaire, you’d make time for him,” she said, tugging my ears.
“Oh, don’t be stupid, Ava. Jason isn’t the only man in the world,” I retorted, clicking
my tongue. I was still in front of the mirror, waiting for my friend to give me tips on
how to hide that huge hickey on my neck.
“Exactly, Lau. Jason is not the only man in the world. Do
you see that hickey? That
means your body needs physical affection. It’s like, in the chakra, the soul and the
flesh should be connected in harmony, but now your body is not in harmony with
your soul, your chakra is defective,” she said. Good heavens, now Ava was going to
start talking about the things she learned in her yoga classes. I rolled my eyes and
remained silent, listening to her speak.
“You have to find a way to be distracted, girl. You can’t just close your mind to things
1/3
other than work or your adorable daughter, you have to go out more often, okay? You have to go out drinking, have fun, kiss more, and fuck like crazy. Take
advantage of the fact that you have handsome Richard by your side and have fun
with him,” she gave her advice.
“I could, but I’m really busy,” I continued to deny.
“But to go kiss Jason Davies, you weren’t that busy!” She practically screamed at me.
Ava was impossible sometimes.
“That was necessary, Ava. Jason was supposed to leave me alone!”
“Look, there are more excuses you’re making up, while the hickey on your neck
gives you away! What’s wrong with Richard?”
“There’s nothing wrong with Richard, okay?”
“Then why don’t you want to try him?”
I don’t want to be a complete jerk to him! I don’t want to use him! Furthermore, I
almost shouted this at her, but I just sighed and said, “Can you tell me how I cover
this purple on my neck, or will I have to go look it up on the internet?”
“Ah, wanting to replace me with G****e?”
“At least G****e doesn’t bother me,” I told her.
“I’m just trying to help you, silly. Now take some foundation and gently rub it on your neck,” she sighed gratefully, running to do what she was instructing me.
Moments later, my neck seemed to be white again without a stain because of the makeup it covered. “Now it’s better,” she said, as the call was now video.
“I don’t know, girl. I’m not sure… what if the foundation fades?”
“If your foundation fades, it’s because your makeup is cheap,” she scoffed, then laughed at me. “But it’s cold today, the weather is good for a scarf.”
I agreed with the idea of going to get a scarf that matched my outfit, and only then. could I leave the house, but I didn’t stop talking to my friend,
“No, Jason and I won’t see each other again, Avie, stop pushing that story.”
“But you practically work at the same company, it’s impossible for you guys not to see each other today,” she continued to insist
“I hope he doesn’t show up today because there’s nothing important for him today at the launch of the new Nemesis clothing line for the winter season. Jason works in business administration, he’s only used to making important decisions that would change an entire company. Why would he waste his precious time coming to watch the launch of a clothing line?”
“Considering that Jason Davies is a madman who has constantly done unimaginable crazy things to get your attention, like buying a restaurant in which you had unresolved issues, buying the company that was going to provide your marketing services, and practically buying and manipulating everything and everyone around.
you just to have you back, I would say he could very well appear in this parade
today. And I bet when you see each other, you’ll be so fixated on each other that
you’ll look at each other so deeply that you’ll find a way to go somewhere private
just to make out again,” she insinuated, and I lightly bit my lips. Could it be that I
would do that?
While Ava might be right, I didn’t know if I would control myself if I saw Jason right in front of me. That man was dominating my thoughts, making me look for him in the crowd even unconsciously. It was as if my soul wanted to connect with him and to do so, I was pulling myself closer and closer to him. I wanted so badly to call him, to at least hear his voice and feel like he was close to me again.
After five years, I had felt it again, and now that the feeling had returned with more force, I couldn’t help it, so whether I wanted it or not, Ava was right. I really should do everything to avoid my ex–husband.
“Jason won’t show up at Nemesis today, Ava. He promised me he’d stay away from me, the kiss wasn’t in vain, okay?” I told her.
“Okay, since you’re so sure,” she said finally, making me sigh in relief.
