Chapter 42 Men Can Be Dramatic… So Sleep Instead

Chapter 42 Men Can Be Dramatic… So Sleep Instead
\[HE IS NOT SAFE TO BE AROUND. MAEVE. DISENGAGE\]

Oh, she wanted to. The last thing she needed was being in pain again. She knew how it went, she knew how it could go.

And worse of all, she was scared of going back again.

She could feel it right now, the fear flowing through her veins, the way she knew one wrong move would have her entire body flailing in pain and blood pouring out of her mouth or her dying… she was realizing she did not like to die.

Maeve’s eyes scanned over Amir’s new look. She noted the large scaly wings, the black horns coming out of his forehead, the tail whipping back and forth and clear bloodlust gold eyes staring back at her, his nails black and long.

Reminded her of a certain series that will not be named because of the fear of copyright.

But she couldn’t move.

Maeve was telling herself that he was an important asset, and if anything, she could find a way to use this in the future for her car business. Maybe he could communicate with other mana beasts in this form, maybe he was an Alpha and could—

She heard him let out a growl then suddenly, he was charging at her.

Adrian did not let him get close enough. One second, she was standing and the next, he was pushing her away hard, causing her back to hit a tree trunk. The pain was fast, racking through her spine and every bone in her body.

Amir let out a louder growl.

Jesus Christ, are they really going to have a male lead off?

\[FINALLY. SPACE TO OFFICIATE AND BLAME YOU FOR THIS. HELLO. LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPENING\]

Maeve knew she should be going in between them and try to separate them. She was fully aware that was how it was supposed to go. Instead, she slowly sat to the floor and closed her eyes, waiting to sleep to take her to a beautiful world of rest.

She was only three minutes into her nap before she realized something bright was in her line of sight. Maeve slowly peeled one eye open, realizing now that the stupid system had increased its brightness and was now in front of her with the words. \[YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO\]

“I knew what to do a long time ago,” Maeve sounded deadpanned. “Imagine this. Me actually resting right now back at home and you not glitching out of existence because, guess what? We would never have been here. Have you figured out from your creators what happened yet or I have to do everything myself?”

NACE went silent.

Maeve began closing her eyes. “Yeah. I thought so.”

It flashed again, \[WE APOLOGIZE ABOUT THAT INCIDENT. WE NEVER—\]

“Meant for it to happen? I suspected. Which means your creators have people more powerful above them. That’s so disturbing. CEO’s always hate other members of the board. Feels like cuckolding in a way?”

Maeve could hear the sound of metal clashing against something else. Grunts and growls filling the air in the background. Deep down, she wondered if she could use it as white noise. “While the fight is going on, I can use that opportunity to talk to you so let’s see the record straight. I believe I can see the curse now, which is… frightening. I sort of remember returning to my previous life? Bits and pieces of it? There was a… man? Stopped me from jumping off I think?”

\[YOU TRIED TO KILL YOURSELF AGAIN?\]

Maeve shot daggers at it. “I swear if you try to act like you care, I would find the blocking button on you, and block you. Now, where was I? Yes. The ghostly things hanging around the bodies of the people here. Didn’t notice it before so maybe dying? Made me see them? And of course, this,”

She raised her hand and showed where the cut she had made was.

The red blood had… changed its colour, and it looked like… black goo? It trailed down her arm, the place where the mark had been slowly looking like it was closing and forming a large birthmark.

\[THAT IS NOT NORMAL\]

Maeve let out a loud gasp and covered her mouth with her hands. “WHAT? IT'S NOT NORMAL? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?”

You are probably wondering if the men were still fighting?

They were not.

Amir, naturally, was not in his right senses though all the blood he had taken had cleared his frenzy slightly— and Adrian? Well, Adrian in his own defense was unable to concentrate when he noticed that she had not come to separate them, was about to fall asleep, then began talking to herself.

Now, they both stared at her, wondering if perhaps, she had lost whatever sanity she had been holding herself to.

\[YOU ARE SO DRAMATIC\]

“Haha. Wow. I’m dramatic because I don’t want to die?” Maeve looked like she was about to erupt as her eyebrow was twitching again as she rose up and squared her body into a boxing position. “Or do you forget that I’m the so-called anchor or whatever the heck you said in the beginning? You know what? If you truly cared about me, you would make yourself a physical form so I can make you my punching bag.”

\[… YOU ARE SO RIDICULOUS, GIRL\]

Maeve scoffed and made a ‘come here’ motion with her hands as she moved her other arm in a rotating motion. “Oh you did not.”

“Isabella—”

Maeve’s head snapped to him. “Oh, so now you care about me? Wow. You’re such hypocrites honestly. You— wanted to kill me. YOU threw me back so hard I realized I am not born to a protagonist nor do I plan on being a YN. How stupid it was of me to put myself in between the two of you? What was I thinking? That I’m Pocahontas?!”

Adrian could feel a headache brewing. “Who would have thought that you cared for your life? I was giving you what you seem to enjoy. Ever wondered if you were masochistic?”

\[HE IS NOW MY FAVOURITE\]

“Ohhh, making jokes. How nice. How so demure—”

“You should leave, Isabella,”

Maeve let out a snort and covered her face with her hands. “Okay, YOU don’t get to be the cool one in this story! Okay?! I’m the one who’s come to save you. You are NOT the one that’s going to be the kind and generous hero! You know what? I actually am mad now. I have been in literally the worst situations and you both can’t stop comparing dk sizes—! Stop bleeping me out because they need to hear—!”

Unfortunately for the angry woman, her blood had already alerted more than half of the mana beasts around and before she could finish her sentence, one of them grabbed her by her dress and began dragging her through the woods in a not so friendly way.
