Chapter 50

Fiona was in the garden trying to trim and cut off the edges of overgrown flowers, when she heard the gate opening.

She stopped what she was doing in high hopes. The house has been boring if not for Martins that sometimes speaks with her.

She peeped, leaping up to see if it was Mr Lyon's car coming in or another Wendy.

It was!

Lyon’s car pulled into the compound and barely stopped when Fiona came running out of the house, almost stumbling as she rushed toward them.

“Kathryn…!” Fiona shouted, her face lit up with excitement. She didn’t even wait for Kathryn to step fully out of the car before throwing her arms around her. “I thought you wouldn’t come back!”

Kathryn let out a laugh, surprised by the sudden hug. “Fiona…” she managed softly.

But Fiona suddenly pulled back, her eyes dropping to Kathryn’s baby bump. She froze, blinking in surprise, then softened her grip. “Oh…” she said quietly, smiling as her voice grew gentler. “I almost forgot….., welcome back.”

Kathryn smiled, touched by Fiona’s concern. She hugged her back, slower this time. “There wasn’t a day I didn’t miss you,” she said softly.

Fiona grinned, brushing a tear from the corner of her eye as she held Kathryn’s hand. “Me too. Every day.”

Lyon and Martins stood a little off to the side, watching. Martins leaned toward Lyon with a small smirk. “Looks like she forgot you existed, boss.”

Lyon chuckled, shaking his head as he reached into the trunk for Kathryn’s bags. “Let her enjoy the moment.”

“Come inside, ma'am..” Fiona said quickly, already pulling Kathryn’s hand as if she’d never let her go again. “You must be tired. Sit down, I’ll make tea, or oh! Are you hungry? You must be..”

Kathryn laughed as Fiona tugged her toward the house like a child excited to show off something new. “Fiona, slow down!”

Kathryn glanced back over her shoulder, catching Lyon’s eye. He stood there holding a bag, watching the scene play out with a raised brow and an amused look.

“Are you going to leave me standing here?” he teased lightly, shaking his head.

Kathryn gave him a look that said, What can I do? Fiona kept dragging her, clearly on a mission.

Lyon sighed dramatically, looking at Martins. “You see what I’m dealing with?”

Martins laughed, patting him on the shoulder. “You’ll survive.”

Lyon started toward the house, carrying the bags inside. From the doorway, they could still hear Fiona talking a mile a minute as she fussed over Kathryn. The air was filled with laughter and chatter, warm and familiar, like they’d never left.

For Lyon, it felt good. It felt like home again.

Kathryn was now sitting on the couch as Fiona made her way to the kitchen.

Fiona almost skipped as she turned back, grinning. “Katy, I’ve been working on a new recipe! I want to make it for you. You’ll love it, I promise.”

Kathryn smiled, shaking her head lightly. “Alright, Fiona. I trust you.”

Fiona started to leave but stopped halfway, turning with a smirk. “Don’t worry, the recipe is safe for the baby.”

Kathryn burst out laughing, covering her mouth as Fiona giggled and disappeared toward the kitchen.

Lyon stood quietly, watching Kathryn, a smile on his face. He reached for her hand gently. “Come, let’s go upstairs.”

They walked up together, side by side. When they got to the room, Lyon stopped and pulled Kathryn close, wrapping his arm around her waist.

He held her tightly, just holding her like he needed it. Kathryn rested her head on his chest, smiling softly.

After a moment, Lyon pulled back and bent down slowly. Without saying anything, he kissed her tummy.

Kathryn let out a laugh, brushing his hair with her fingers. “Lyon…”

Lyon looked up at her, his voice low and full of meaning. “I’ve always wished for this, Kathryn… always.”

He stood back up, his hands still on her waist, his eyes meeting hers. “Thank you for this.”

Kathryn smiled, looking at him. “We both made this wish, Lyon. Together.”

Lyon said nothing more, just pulled her into his arms again. The room was quiet, the world outside forgotten. It was just the two of them, holding onto each other like nothing else mattered.

After about an hour of lying in bed, the quiet was broken by a knock on the door.

“It’s Fiona!” her voice rang out, cheerful as ever. “The special dish I made just for you is ready. The table is set.”

Lyon glanced at Kathryn with a smile, and she shook her head, laughing softly.

“We’ll join you soon,” Lyon called out.

Kathryn sat up, stretching as she looked around. “I think I left my phone somewhere,” she mumbled, her eyes scanning the room.

Lyon sat up too, his face calm but mischief playing in his eyes. “Your phone? Hmm…” He acted like he was thinking hard.

Before Kathryn could move, Lyon suddenly scooped her up in his arms.

“Lyon!” she gasped, gripping his shoulders, wide-eyed.

He chuckled, holding her close. “Sorry I startled you,” he whispered softly, his face close to hers.

Kathryn’s heart raced, but she couldn’t help smiling. “You’re ridiculous, you know that?”

Lyon just smiled, his eyes locked on hers. For a moment, they stayed like that, quiet, close, until Lyon leaned in and kissed her gently.

Kathryn’s fingers curled around his shirt as she kissed him back, slow and soft.

When he finally pulled back, he grinned. “See? You don’t need your phone.”

Kathryn laughed, her cheeks warm. “Put me down, Lyon. Fiona’s probably waiting with a wooden spoon.”

Lyon smirked but set her on her feet. “Alright, alright. Let’s go eat.”

Hand in hand, they headed downstairs. The smell of Fiona’s cooking filled the air, warm and rich. As they stepped into the dining room, Fiona stood there, hands on her hips, a proud smile on her face.

“Took you two long enough!” she teased. “You better sit down and eat before it gets cold.”

Kathryn laughed, shaking her head. “Fiona, you never change.”

“Why should I?” Fiona winked, already heading back toward the kitchen. “You’ll love this one.”

Lyon pulled a chair out for Kathryn, making her sit before taking his own seat. He poured her a glass of water, looking at her with that quiet smile he always had.

Kathryn glanced up at him, the moment so real. She had missed this, being home, being with him.

Fiona came out of the kitchen, carrying a small plate of diced fruits. She placed it gently in front of Kathryn, wiping her hands on her apron with a satisfied look.

“I think you should start with this, Kathryn. Something light first,” Fiona said, her voice warm and familiar.

Kathryn smiled up at her, soft and grateful. “Thank you, Fiona. You never stop taking care of me.”

Fiona gave a quick nod, like it was no big deal, then turned just as Martins walked in, rolling up his sleeves. He looked around the table, his eyebrows shooting up when he saw the spread.

“Fiona! What’s all this? You opened a restaurant while I wasn’t looking?” Martins teased, pulling out a chair and sitting down.

“Sit down and eat, Martins. You talk too much,” Fiona shot back with a smirk, setting bowls of food on the table.

Lyon poured water into a glass for Kathryn before picking up his spoon. The table got quiet for a second as the smell of the food hit them all. Fiona watched Lyon, waiting for his reaction. He took a bite, chewing slow, then set his spoon down.

“Not bad, Fiona,” Lyon said finally, his lips twitching into a smile. He looked over at Kathryn, though, like she was the real reason he was smiling at all.

Fiona blinked, folding her arms. “Just ‘not bad sir?”

Martins took his first bite and let out an exaggerated groan, dropping his spoon like he couldn’t believe it. “Fiona! What did you put in this? This is dangerous, someone’s going to marry you just for your food.”

Fiona snorted, waving him off. “Please, Martins, you’ll eat anything.”

“It’s the best you’ve made this year,” Martins said with a grin, already reaching for more.

Lyon shook his head, his smile a little wider this time. “Good job, Fiona,” he said.

Fiona froze for a second, then tossed her towel over her shoulder like she wasn’t pleased. “Thank you, sir. Finally.”

The table started to buzz with small talk and laughter. Fiona teased Martins for piling up, pointing her spoon at him.

“Martins, save some for tomorrow. You’re eating like you haven’t seen food in a month!”

Martins leaned back, mouth full, grinning. “It’s your fault, Fiona. Why’d you make it this good?”

Lyon chuckled under his breath, shaking his head. “You two need your own show,” he said quietly, but his voice was lighter, like he felt the room's warmth too.

Fiona looked over at Lyon, narrowing her eyes playfully. “And you, sir, you’re a little too quiet tonight. Kathryn must be working her magic.”

Kathryn turned red, dropping her gaze to her plate as Lyon glanced at her with a smile. He didn’t say anything back, but the way he looked at her was enough.

Fiona carried in another plate of food, determined to feed everyone to the last bite. “Alright, no one’s leaving this table hungry. I worked hard on this. Finish everything.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Martins teased, raising his hands in surrender.

Kathryn laughed softly, her chest feeling warm. She looked around, Fiona fussing over the food, Martins teasing as he scraped his plate, Lyon smiling in a way she hadn’t seen in months.

Lyon leaned back in his chair, watching them all with quiet eyes. Martins nudged him a little, just loud enough for Kathryn to hear.

“You better hold on tight to this, man. She’s the reason you’re smiling like that.”

Lyon said nothing, but the look he gave Kathryn made her cheeks heat up again. She picked at her food, trying not to smile too big.

Fiona nagged Martins for stealing more food, Martins blamed Lyon for not eating faster, and Kathryn sat there, soaking it all in.

This? This was home.

When they finished the meal, Martins pushed his plate back, holding his stomach like he couldn’t eat another bite.

“Alright, Fiona. You win. I’m done,” he said, leaning back in his chair with a dramatic sigh.

Fiona, who was already starting to gather the dishes, shook her head, smiling.

Lyon chuckled, standing up and stretching. “Thanks for the meal, Fiona. It’s been a long time since we’ve all sat down like this.”

“Of course. Just make sure Kathryn comes by for every meal. I’ll cook extra,” Fiona teased.

Kathryn smiled at Fiona, her eyes warm. “I will. I promise.”

They strode off, leaving Fiona to pack the plates.

When they reached their room, Lyon opened the door for Kathryn. She walked in first, a smile on her face, but then she stopped dead in her tracks.

Lyon stepped in behind her, his hand on her shoulder. “What is it?” he asked, sensing her pause.

Kathryn’s eyes were fixed on her phone. It was sitting on the nightstand, the screen lit up.

Lyon noticed immediately. “Is everything okay?”

Kathryn stared at the phone for a moment, then slowly picked it up. She glanced at it, her thumb hovering over the screen.

“It’s just a message,” she said quietly, her voice unsure.

Lyon watched her, still unsure of what was going on. “Who’s it from?”

Kathryn didn’t answer immediately. She set the phone back down, locking the screen. “It’s nothing important.”

Lyon raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “You sure?”

Kathryn nodded, turning to him, trying to shake off whatever unease was creeping in. “Yeah. Just... some random message. Nothing to worry about.”

Lyon didn’t press, but he wasn’t fully convinced either. He stepped closer to her, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her in.
