Chapter 165 SHATTERED ILLUSIONS

Chapter 165 SHATTERED ILLUSIONS
 NIRELLE

Yvette was shocked at Michael's sudden change of heart. He confessed the entire story to the police, not sparing a single detail. I heard things I had not even heard before. Lucien squeezed my hand as we sat there listening to what Michael said. The warmth of his hand made everything I had endured feel somewhat worth it.

"Those are lies against me." Yvette would scream at intervals, even though the men tried to stop her. "I did no such thing. The only crime I have ever committed is loving my family too much to want to sacrifice for them."

I wonder if living in luxury at the expense of your family meant that you were sacrificing for them. She knew this was the end for her, but she was still fighting. I guess I did need to learn one or two things about resilience and not giving up on her.

"You do not have to believe only his words; you can hear mine as well." A strange man stepped jkup.

"Who are you?" Yvette said, looking him up and down. "Why are you trying to come between us? "This is a family matter," she screamed in his face.

"Madam, do you not remember me?" the man asked. "Eleven years ago, you had me kidnap your children, Nirelle here," and he pointed to my face, and his finger went through the room before stopping on Zane. "Zane, your son," he smiled, and her face dawned with realisation. "And then you had me kidnap your husband again because you wanted to marry into the Thamore family, so..."

"You are..." She cut him off as her eyebrow furrowed and her lips turned into a thin line. "You were dead; you died. How could you be..."

"You wanted me dead, but I survived it," he explained. "Since then, I have reflected on my life, wanting to confess everything, but I feared that you and Mr Thamore would try to kill me once more before I could tell the world the truth. When they came to me and asked that I come, I knew that they could protect me, so I am here to not only tell the truth but also turn myself in and get the punishment I deserve, but also make sure that you both get what you deserve as well."

The room fell silent, and everyone was trying to make sense of the situation. Everyone else who did not know what the situation was before now was probably wondering what sort of mother she was to do something like this.

"I have evidence to support my claim," this strange man said, pulling out his phone and some documents. By the time police were done reviewing all of the chats and bank statements, they could no longer deny it. Yvette was ready to be taken away in cuffs when Luien stopped them. His hands left mine as he got up.

"That is not all, officers."

"Not all? What else?" Yvette said with a loud voice.

"You should pay for all of your crimes at once, shouldn't you?" he asked. "We would also like to add to the charge of abuse and manipulation of my wife. She was severely beaten by her mother and her husband."

"I was only trying to discipline my daughter, make her a good person for the..."

"You call abuse discipline?" I mutter as I gently slide off my chair. "All the days I was locked in the basement? Not given enough to eat? Forced to lie on the ground to sleep? When you turned a blind eye, Veytiew Enoch raped me at night. Telling them to put up with the abuse from Enoch and Cory because it was our meal ticket? While you lived a good life, going from country to country on vacation? When you made me drop out of high school because you thought once I gained college admission, I would no longer be under your control?" I pause and catch my breath. "Was that the training you were talking about?"

She avoids my eyes, and it is the first time I am seeing the confident Yvette slip away totally.

"Is this the way you repay us after all we've done for you?" Before I can respond, I see a man charge at them in full force. It was Cory; he looked angry. Luien's bodyguard blocked me before he could reach me, and the bodyguard pulled him off, holding him back.

"You ungrateful brat! How dare you? My father took you as his daughter, and you stand here to slander his name? Do you even have any conscience?"

I ignore his accusations and turn to the officer, who was also standing at this point. "And him," I point in Cory's face, stopping his ramble. "He raped me as well; he did it when his father was too tired to do it. "I push back the tears that threaten to fall out of my face. "And he was the one who drove the limo away. I am sure if you check the car, you'd find his DNA all over the seats."

"Nirelle! How dare you slander me without any evidence?" I walk over to him and stand right in front of him.

"Hold him tight," I say to the guards, and before he can say whatever it was he wanted to, a hand connects with his face in a slap. Everyone around the room gasped. "How dare you?" I scream as I slap him again. "Do I look like that same girl you walked all over from six months ago? Do you not want to pay for your atrocities?" I asked, and his mouth that had been running stopped.

"I hope you rot in hell." I take a step back, and the guards are replaced with policemen who cuff him.

"Are you going to do nothing?" he screamed as he tried to get out of the strong grip on him. "She slapped me in the station and assaulted me, and yet I am the one getting arrested? "I want to file a charge against them," he screamed. When he stood beside my mom, he stared at her with his dangerous eyes. If he had not cuffed up, who knew what he would have done?

"This is all your fault!" he spat in her face. "You failed to train your daughter well and see what she is doing even to you." He then began cackling like a witch. "I guess it is good that she is taking you down as well."

The policemen seemed to have had their fill, as they took everyone back: Yvette, Cory and the strange man who had turned himself in.

"Mr Vexle, I am sure you want to get your wife to the hospital to be sure that nothing is wrong with her," the police said to Lucien, and then I remembered that I had to tell him before we stood before Mae.

"Sure," he said with a nod and stretched his hand. "Thank you so much for your help."

"Thank you for your help; you helped us put all of these people behind bars." The officer seemed genuinely grateful for the help. "I will be in touch if there is anything more we would need from you."

"I will be happy to help you."

The bodyguards helped me to the car, as Zane said he would take Michael to the hospital. "You and Luien ride together," he said with a knowing smile on his face.

I am waiting in the front seat of the car when Lucien enters the driver's seat. He sits still, looking ahead, and I am confused about what to do, so I touch his arm gently.

"Lucien?" When he turned to me, I realised that he was crying.

"I thought I was going to lose you." I stretch over the centre console and hold him in a hug.

"I'm here now, aren't I?"
