Chapter 162 THE LAST DEAL ON THE TABLE

Chapter 162 THE LAST DEAL ON THE TABLE

LUCIEN

"You keep bragging and showing your power." Enoch sucked his teeth as he lowered into the chair in front of him as I entered the room. "I did not know you could see the same person in cuffs so many times." He raised his hand to the air and shook it; the sound of the metal clinking together filled the entire room.

"I am just here to talk."

"So you are a bully?" He leaned into the table, and then a smile climbed his face; it was sinister and made a chilly air pass through the room. "A power-tripping bully," explaining to him that I was nothing like him was going to be a waste of time, so I shook my head.

"That is because I have power to show, unlike you, who was on a power trip without any real power." I smack my lips and pull the chair in front of the table. "If you are as powerful as you claim, then use your influence to get you out of here."

Enoch blinked rapidly at me. "You know I can't do that because you've crippled my influence. It is worth noting now."

"Then why are you refusing to give in? Just confess..."

"You want me to turn my back on my wife?" From the way Enoch spoke, one would think they were wives truly. It sounded almost believable. As if they were close, a couple who loved each other. Maybe the extreme hatred they had for people around them bound them together, and they knew nothing about it.

"Do you really consider her your wife? Have you ever considered her your wife?"

"Why not?"

"I heard you never got legally married." He looked at me, and then, as if he understood why I should know this, he looked away with his head down. "You were just accomplices in several crimes living together, and since Nirelle was kidnapped at a young age, it means she was never adopted as your daughter. The crimes keep piling up, and between you and your friend, I can't tell who's a worse scumbag."

"Her husband never gave a divorce."

"Why?"

"I could not get married to her if I were still married to someone else, so we faked the marriage."

"I understand," I lied. At that time, Enoch was not in search of a partner because he needed one. He needed society to know that he was a stable family man, meaning he could have had anyone he wanted. Why did he stick with her regardless? Did she have something on him? Shouldn't it have been easier to make him want to turn his back on her by herself? Why was he still acting faithful to her?

"You want to know why it had to be her?" He looked like he was mocking, but I knew he was not going to say anything. "I can't tell you."

"So you are okay with taking the blame for the crime you both committed?"

"What crime?" I am not involved in the kidnapping." He was smug and too confident, and it made me mad. "You can't prove it."

"I can." I stand up, pushing the chair and turning it over to its back. I hold the head of the chair firmly and stare at him. He gulped clearly where I needed him to be for this to work out.

"The men who took Nirelle and Zane at that time, where are they?"

"Disposed," he said without missing a beat. How could he be so okay with people dying and him ordering it, yet he was living his best?

"Well, not all. I would have loved to bring him here today, but I can't." I pull out my phone from my pocket and dial a number, dropping it on the table between us. The phone trilled and then connected.

"Hello?" the voice sounded, and from Enoch's face I could tell that he recognised the voice. "Before he could say anything further to confirm, I cut off the call.

"Thank you for confirming to me that he is the one; I will take it over from here now." I pick up my phone and stand straight.

"Why are you so adamant about putting Yvette behind bars?"

"She hurt my wife." He looks at me as if I am being ridiculous. "That should be enough reason."

"Love is weak, and you are strong; you do not need..."

"What I do not need is advice from someone about to end up in jail for the rest of his life; if I listen to you, then I am going to end up like you." He does not look pleased with my response. "It's been nice talking with you; I won't be here again," I tell him because I have come two times to try and convince him to turn Yvette in; he had been adamant both times. I wonder why she was so special to both men that they could not give her up.

"I hope you have a good time in jail." I push my phone into my breast pocket, arrange my suit and stride to the door. I linger for a second before I pull it open.

"Why don't you offer me something in exchange, and I will give you what you want?" he asked. My grip on the handle tightens. "I know you do not have to give me what I want, but you are a businessman and know that is the fastest way to a deal."

He was right, but I did not want to deal with this man. "My conditions," he continued, because I still stood there. Why was I curious?

"Cory! You leave him out of all this mess."

"You do not want your precious son to be put with you behind bars? He did as badly as you did."

"He didn't know what he was doing at all." Enoch was defending him. Was this some kind of parents' love, or was Enoch just a psycho? Would I ever feel what that kind of love felt like? I push away the thoughts from my mind and turn to him.

"I do not need your deal; I do not need to save your son. You think you are the only one who has evidence? "You can't be" – his face falls as I talk. He should have agreed in the first instance and offered himself up to save Cory from the get-go.

"Your son will join you in here soon, so I hope you make room for him." I open the door and close it, leaving him there. How dare he think that he could be the one to make a deal with me? It was not the right time or place for that.

"I hope you join me soon," he shouts at the back of my head in anger. "All businessmen like you are crooks, and they deserve to be behind bars as well."

"I will not be coming over again," I tell the policeman who had been waiting at the door for me. It was against the rules, but still they let me talk to him. After all, in the eyes of the public, Nirelle was still missing, and maybe he would be able to give me clues to find her. I had told them not to plaster her name over the internet in search for her; everything about that would be handled by me.

"Have you gotten the information to save your wife?" he asked with concern.

"Yes," I lie. I could not tell them that I knew where she was, and this was just a ploy to get everyone arrested at once.

"Okay, because her mother just came in..."

"Her mother? Whose mother?"

"Your wife's mother, sir, she just came in to turn herself in."

"She turned herself in?" I sigh, and he nods.

"Some pretty serious crimes dating back years, and she wanted the full punishment."

I should have gone to Yvette and pulled on her heartstrings instead of trying to reason with Enoch for days. "What about Cassian and his mother?"

"They have both been brought in for questioning. We caught Cassian at the airport and his mom at home," he stops and then picks up almost immediately. "With all of the evidence that we have, I am sure that this will be over soon."

"Okay, good!" I say, my mind reeling with ways to make sure that Cory ends up here. He needs to see the four walls of a cell. Nirelle was the one who made it happen; aiding kidnapping was going to be one of his charges, and the only charge strong enough to keep him away for a while.
